I Overestimated My Fellow Americans

I Overestimated My Fellow Americans.
By J. D. Longstreet
***************************

Some of us have been screaming from the rooftops, for nearly 2 years now, that Mr. Obama is a socialist. Only now, just days before the election, are people beginning to take notice. Why? It is there for everyone but the deaf, dumb, and bind to see.

America has been slowly but surely headed toward a socialist government since FDR’s “New Deal.” In the 1960’s it was Lyndon Baines Johnson and the “Great Society”, and now, the crowning touch, Barack Hussein Obama and the… what…”Spread the Wealth Around” government?

The Left in America knows they have not succeeded in convincing us all to buy into their “Demand whatever the country can do for you” approach to government. You see, there are a heck of a lot of folks, like me, still roaming around, out here in the hinterlands of America, who see them for what they are, who recognize their scheme to lock down a democratic majority, forever, in Washington by making every single American dependent on the government for their very existence. Folks like me are a threat to them and their plans.

That is why Obama has run a stealth campaign. Think back. Obama has not told us a single thing, in concrete terms, he will do for you. Oh sure, he has given us great oratorical flourishes that spellbind those who wish to be spellbound. Watching an Obama event is much the same as watching the old medicine shows of the 1800’s. His snake oil is his promise of change, of hope, of (-----) whatever you wish to place in the blank.

People, like me, pay attention to what is going on about them. We are aware of what our government is doing. We feel that the government is answerable to us, as the voter, and, equally important, we also feel we have a responsibility to watch the government and make sure they stay within the guidelines of the constitution. That is the way a free people stay free. Never, ever, trust your government.

It is we the left is afraid of. The fact that we continue to agitate and call attention to Obama’s obvious socialism grinds on them every second of every day. They fear that our collective voices may eventually cut through their carefully constructed façade and actually draw your attention to every thing that is wrong with the fine print in the Obama promise. First and foremost where is the money going to come from to finance Obama’s expanded government? Secondly, who is going to protect us from all this nations enemies now salivating at the expectation that such a weakling as Obama will assume the office of Commander-in-Chief of the US military? Apparently, everyone already knows that no amount of talking, and jawboning, with the Islamofacists, with Russia, with North Korea, with Iraq, with Iran, with Afghanistan, with Venezuela, and the host of nameless enemies we face daily will do any good, at all. Everyone, that is, but Obama. They look on, as Americans flock after this empty suit, in disbelief at their good fortune. They are ecstatic that America is about to be handed to them on a silver platter.

Our forefathers must be spinning in their graves. The blood, sweat, tears, and providential intervention they, and those who followed them, spent in building a nation unlike any on the earth is all for naught. For if the people have no more love of their country, no more pride in who they are as Americans, no more belief in themselves than those who follow Obama, then, I must tell you, we don’t deserve the country they gave us.

It would seem that I have overestimated the intelligence of the American people. It would seem that I have overestimated my fellow Americans’ love for freedom. My error, apparently, was in believing that a people grown from the stock of patriots who fought kings and world superpowers for their freedom, and created a country in which the citizens were limited only by their own imaginations and ambitions would naturally want to preserve this precious land and all the freedom if offers. My mistake. It is a mistake I will not make again.

There Is No UNITED States!

There Is NO UNITED States!
By J. D. Longstreet
*****************************

There is a thread of fear running through the right side of the political spectrum in America. It is so real you can taste it. You can see it in the eyes of conservatives. You can hear it in their voices and you can even physically hear it when it is whispered into your ear. I will quickly add… it is fear mixed with resignation. Conservatives speak of it only in whispers. The left doesn’t speak of it at all because they are completely clueless about it.

Our fellow Americans, (on the left side of the American political spectrum) have mistakenly read the Right’s current state of mind as “fear of losing the election.” They could not be more wrong. It is not fear of losing the election. It is, however, fear of losing our country and the growing resignation that It is already too late to stop the sprint toward an inevitable conflict between citizens of what used to be the greatest country on the planet.

Yes, this IS a horrible thing to contemplate. Our forefathers in 1776 didn’t want it. Our ancestors in 1861 didn’t want it and we don’t want it. Nevertheless, the threat is there, standing just out of the light… but… just barely inside the shadows of our consciousness. The threat is visible to those who WANT to see it. The old expression “There are none so blind as those who will not see.” certainly applies to any who will not see that America is headed toward an internal conflict unlike anything this nation has seen since the 19th century.

For decades now a wedge has been driven deeper and deeper through the heart of what was a United America. We are no longer united. The UNITED states do not exist… except in poetry, verse, song, creeds, pledges, and in the imagination of those people who inhabit a “dream world” far above the plain upon which you and I dwell.

In reality, Americans are split asunder… cleft in twain by the cleaver of socialism. The election of a socialist President will complete the great divide of America and render us truly TWO nations. No hope for unity will exist. We will be constantly at each other’s throats, constantly in over-heated debate scratching and clawing at each other until the inevitable happens.

I’m over reacting… right? You’d better hope so! Just to reassure yourselves that I am a nut, check your encyclopedia for the history of this nation from about 1820 through 1865… then tell me you do not see the parallels. You see, for those of us who have paid more than passing attention to the actual history of this country, what is happening today in America is akin to the replay of a very old movie. A story that does not have a happy ending, but instead, flashes, “to be continued” at the end of the last reel.

If you have been harboring thoughts that the American Left and the American Right will ever be able to reconcile and become one vast, single, goal-oriented electorate, allow me to disabuse you of that hallucinatory conception. No, the two are so totally different in their philosophies of life and politics… and even religion, that there is absolutely no hope of ever putting aside those differences and “coming together”. It just isn’t going to happen. The divide grows wider every day.

There was a time when I felt that I would not live to see the next civil war in America but I must say that at the speed comity is dissolving in American I may yet live to see the opening volleys.

The question is… how much longer will the Right restrain itself? The socialist government, we are likely to have after the election, may snap the leash.

The Right’s patience is nearly spent. This very election could well be the last election held under the false claim implied by the current name of the country, “The United States of America.” We are decidedly split into two camps. The socialists are on the left, and on the right, those who want to preserve democracy. The line has been drawn.

Let’s face it: The Left covets a socialist regime in America and they will stop at nothing, as we now know, to get it. The right wants to save the country and the constitution The Founders of this country gave us. To the left, the constitution is simply an impediment. It is in their way and they are forever looking for ways around it. Their henchmen on the Supreme Court find all sorts of things in the constitution that aren’t there. They claim it is a “living document” which it isn’t. The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the constitution, was intended to restrain the federal government’s power. Unrestrained government is, for all intents and purposes, the creed of the political Left. Many on the Right fear that in the event of a future national emergency a leftists/socialist government might find it “necessary” to suspend the constitution and, possibly, national elections. There goes democracy.

I voted earlier this week. I voted for a true conservative for President. If this is to be the last election I take part in I wanted to mark my ballot in support of the idea of a democratic representative republic, the kind of government our forefathers gave us. As I stood there, with the ballot in my hands, I had a choice between Karl Marx’s brand of government or that of Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison and the remainder of that cadre of men who put everything they had, including their very lives, on the line to create this government. I knew I could not sleep at night if I did not support the America for which so many Americans have laid down their lives since 1776.

Crunch time is coming. The Media is telling us that the sale of firearms is at an historical high in this country. I warned of this a few weeks ago. This election will decide if we stay free a few more years, or if we begin the descent into anarchy. I’m afraid it is too much to hope for “UNITED” any longer.

San Francisco: the Epicenter of Stupid Ideas ... by Alan Caruba

San Francisco: the Epicenter of Stupid Ideas
By Alan Caruba

In the 1980s I found myself traveling all over the United States in the employ of a corporation’s quarterly newsletter. I visited many cities and places, discovering the unfailing courtesy and good will of Americans everywhere I went. One of my favorite places was San Francisco. It is picturesque, sits beside a bay spanned by a marvel of engineering, and has great restaurants, hotels, and other attributes.

San Francisco is now the epicenter of spectacularly stupid and just plain bad ideas. Being stupid isn’t a crime, but enacting stupid ideas into law comes close to being a definition of criminal stupidity.

This is a city that has been at the forefront of gay marriage. Why anyone other than a homosexual would think there was any sense in two people of the same sex constituting a “marriage” defies the laws of nature. Webster’s dictionary defines marriage as “The legal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife.” But not in San Francisco. The rest of the citizens of California have made it abundantly clear they oppose same-sex marriage.

On November 4, in addition to voting for the president and other legislators, the citizens of San Francisco will be asked to vote on Proposition H, otherwise known as the “San Francisco Clean Energy Act.”

It would amend the city and county charter “to require the city to transition from fossil fuels to clean, non-nuclear, sustainable energy production at affordable rates.” With this vote, if successful, the city will abandon the use of any energy afforded by coal, natural gas, and, as noted, nuclear power.

Electricity is measured in kilowatts-hours. America’s 104 commercial nuclear power reactors now provide about 20% of its electricity. More than 50% is produced primarily by 400-plus coal-fired “fossil fuel” producers of electricity, providing more than 2,000 billion kilowatt-hours of reliable energy. Hydroelectric and gas-powered plants constitute the rest of the mix.

Solar and wind power constitute about 1% of the electrical energy produced from these two inefficient, impractical, and spectacularly idiotic sources of power.

What the citizens of San Francisco and, for that matter, the rest of the nation, don’t understand is that even in the best locations, wind turbines produce power only about one third of the time. When they cease to produce sufficient electrical power, a back-up coal-fired or nuclear plant has to be in place to meet the immediate needs of energy consumers. Comparably, solar power depends on the sun shining. Occasionally clouds obscure the sun. At night, it is shining somewhere else on Earth.

Proposition H states that, “Nuclear (power) is prohibited from being included in the definition of clean energy.” Moreover, solar and wind power will be mandated to produce “at least 107 megawatts” by 2012, and 75% of San Francisco’s electrical power by 2030.

Who supports Proposition H? They include the Sierra Club, the San Francisco League of Conservation Voters, and the San Francisco Democrat Party. I hope they get used to working by candle light if the measure passes. For all those other things that require reliable electrical power, they should plan on finding some means to keep them going other than the electrical socket in the wall.

The advocates of this supreme act of madness had the audacity of promoting it by asking, “If you and five friends could save the world, would you do it? If San Francisco voters pass Prop H for a 100% clean energy future, we could save the world.” The justification for this is, of course, “global warming”; something that is not happening.

If Proposition H passes, one assumes that views of the city will be obscured by miles and miles of wind turbines and that the drive into the city will include miles and miles of solar panels lining the highways. I don’t plan on visiting in the future.

America Does Not Need A Weak, Timid, President

America Does Not Need A Weak, Timid, President
By J. D. Longstreet
*****************************

I came across something President Dwight Eisenhower said a few decades back. He said: "History does not entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid." When Ike said it… it was profound. It is even more profound, if that is possible, today.

Ike was, of course, correct. If history teaches us anything it is that if a nation is to remain free that nation must remain strong and, equally important, that nation cannot be timid about using it’s strength in defense of freedom, it’s own as well as the freedom of others.

Today we find ourselves on the brink of the election of a new President. A man, who will, under our law, become the Commander in Chief of all the US military forces. Already those forces are at war, openly, overtly, in two nations in the Middle East and in sundry other nations, around the globe, that only those in positions of high authority in our military and our government know about.

Someone once said: “Freedom is not free.” No truer statement has ever been made. We don’t know whom to credit for those words of wisdom, but whoever said it was absolutely correct. There is a cost. Usually, the cost is paid in blood.

These are the words of one of the men running for the high office of President of the US and Commander in Chief of our military forces: "I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending. I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems. I will not weaponize space. I will slow our development of future combat systems. I will institute an independent Defense Priorities Board to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary defense spending ... I will set a goal for a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal: I will not develop nuclear weapons.” Those are the words of Mr. Barrack Obama, democratic Candidate for President. You can watch the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU4sVQV3Lhk

Before proceeding I would refer you all the way back to the quote by President Eisenhower: "History does not entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid.” What immediately leaps off the page when reading Mr. Obama’s words are timidity and weakness.

It is frightening for those of us who were born before the Second World War and have lived the history of this nation through all the wars we have been involved in since. We know the danger, we know the cost, and we know the lengths to which a nation must sometimes go to insure the safety of its citizens. We know the horror of killing hundreds of thousands of our enemy in a single hour with a single blow. It is a measure of the price we pay for our freedom. We also know that had we been timid, had we been weak of fortitude or military might, we would not be free people today.

Allow me, please, to pass on the words of John Stewart Mill: “War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”

I would remind you that TWO wars are raging even as you read this. Not only is Mr. Obama assuring us he will order our troops off the battlefield and cede the war to the enemy, he is said to be considering reducing the military budget by 25%. If anything the size of the US military should be doubled and billions more spent in new equipment, new weapons, and new weapons systems. Just a few days ago Mr. Obama’s own vice presidential candidate assured us we could expect to be hit by our enemies within six months of Mr. Obama’s taking office. I believe him. Except, I think we will be hit sooner, much sooner.

Mr. Obama has missed making a connection with what the people of America want with our military in Iraq and in Afghanistan. Yes, Americans want their sons and daughters home. But they want them to come home victorious, having won the war; with their heads held high as the heroes we know them to be.

Mr. Obama should heed the words of Earnest Hemmingway: “Once we have a war there is only one thing to do. It must be won. For defeat brings worse things than any that can ever happen in war.”

As we are mere days from Election Day, I fear for my country. I fear that Mr. Obama may indeed win and become my President. I will not rest easy a single night he occupies the Oval Office.

Whatever Happened to Illegal Immigration?

Whatever Happened to Illegal Immigration?
By: J. D. Longstreet

*************************

Once upon a time in a land far, far, away… illegal Immigration was a serious problem and the legal citizens of that land were up in arms about it. Then the issue disappeared. What happened? Methinks the media happened.

Have you wondered why Illegal immigration dropped from the radar screens of the media during the presidential campaign? I have. I suspect many of you have, as well.

Where did it go? The illegal aliens are still with us. Some estimates range as high as 20 million illegals here now. Even more illegal immigrants live and work among us every day in the US. We still have a border so wide open that it begs citizens of other countries to steal across it and take up residence in this country. As a result, they are still coming, by day and by night.

Some recent reports in the press indicate that since our financial crisis arose a huge number of illegals have returned to their hones. Let me ask you…doesn’t that validate the argument many of us made that the illegals are not here to become citizens of this great country? We have been saying, all along, they are here for the money. Now that the money has tightened up, and the job market has shrunk, they’re headed back home.

But why aren’t the two candidates for president talking about it? It is my opinion that there is no meaningful difference between the stances on illegal immigration of the two men running for President of the US.

If the illegal immigration thing ever does bubble to the top of the discussion between the two men the American voter is not going to like what he hears.

For Instance: Remember that John McCain co-sponsored the Senate immigration bill that would have legalized millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. and McCain still supports what he calls a "sensible" guest-worker program for workers who are in the country without legal documentation. Once the heat was turned up on the campaign trail he called for strengthening penalties for those who hire undocumented immigrants.

If we go back and look at McCain’s record in the Senate, on illegal Immigration, what we find is very troubling. John McCain has voted in the past to extend social security benefits to illegals who have broken into our country, taken jobs from American citizens, drained the treasuries of our states and local governments by running up welfare costs, overloaded our schools while forcing the local taxpayers to fork over the money to pay for it. Those same illegals have devastated our hospitals, especially the emergency departments, through non-payment of hospital bills, and they have practically crushed our courts and law enforcement organizations with criminal conduct.

On the other hand, Obama has voted not to cut off funds to those "sanctuary cities," and he voted for the Senate immigration overhaul bill. You may recall that bill was supposed to create stronger border controls, but, when you look closely, you find the bill would actually expand the guest-worker program and, over time, legalize millions of undocumented, or illegal immigrant workers, already in the country today. Obama has also sponsored a bill, which would allow states to provide in-state tuition for illegal aliens and he even supports giving driver licenses to illegal aliens.

But we aren’t hearing about this today. Why is that? Could it be because neither side wants it brought up? The media, so in the tank for Obama, knows that if they bring it up in relation to John McCain, it opens the door on Obama’s stance on illegal immigration. In other words, you can’t talk about one without talking about the other because there is just not that much difference between them on Illegal Immigration.

So… where does that leave the voter. I’m beginning to think the voter is complicit in all this. There is just no way the American voter can NOT know where these two men stand on illegal immigration. That said, why are so many voters going to vote for a candidate they do not agree with on illegal immigration? Because they feel they have no choice. I suspect the voters in both camps believe they are down to a choice between the lesser of two evils… again. I have to tell you… this is no way to run a country.

Militia Units and a Liberal President

(Updated)

Militia Units and a Liberal President
By J. D. Longstreet

******************************

Some time ago, I read an article by a liberal lady columnist who writes for the NYT. Besides the bitterness dripping, like hydrochloric acid, from the paragraphs of her tome, I saw something I had thought of before and stuffed back into the darken recesses of my mind only to bring it out when a situation warranted it.

One can only be stricken with the huge, the gigantic, and the monstrous proportion of the naiveté of the left. They do not live in the same world or on the same plain as the remainder of us humans. I think it is genetic. Maybe someday science can isolate the “liberal gene”

For Instance, this writer was droning on about the war and how ridiculous is was to go to war and if we’d behave ourselves and try to understand those who dislike us so much there would be less hate in the world, etc, etc, etc. It was the usual drivel from the Left.

As I was reading this woman’s rantings, and stifling a belly laugh, I remembered a telling situation, which arose during the reign of the last liberal in the White House. I’ll bet you remember it, too.

During the Clinton Administration (I use the term “administration” loosely) remember the sudden increase in the number of Militia units all over the US? Remember? Men who banded together to train as paramilitary units? Remember the attacks upon them by the MSM as a bunch of right-wing nut cases? Sure you do. It was all over TV… every evening.

Now, ask yourselves… where are all those militia units now that we have a ”moderate” President in the Whitehouse? Huh?

My state had a number of armed militia units operating here during the Clinton Administration.

Do you wonder why they only seem to appear when there is a liberal President in the White House and liberals control the Congress? Well, you should. The reason they exist is tied directly to the expectations the people of this country have about a Liberal Administration.

Common folk, you see, are savvy. They understand that Liberals have neither a real concept of military force nor do they understand the application of that military force. Therefore, they have no concept of national defense… in so far as the use of military force to protect this nation’s citizens is concerned.

Look, when a liberal President is in office, the common US citizen understands it is “everyman for himself.” We know the government cannot be relied upon to protect the nation so, US citizens take it upon themselves to do the government’s job.

And that is where the Second Amendment to the US Constitution comes in. That is one of the reasons The Founders put it in the constitution in the first place. The US citizenry is the best-armed citizenry in the world. Any outside attacking force will be met with a standing army of citizen soldiers the likes of which the world has never seen.

Of course, the other reason, The Founders put the Second Amendment in the Constitution, was to insure the citizens could protect themselves from the federal government! Actually, that was the primary reason.

So, with the next Presidential election just days away, we should consider this as we study the candidates for that office. If the US elects another liberal President, militia units will pop up, seemingly overnight, sort of like mushrooms after a long wet spell. Adding urgency to their appearance is the fact that the US is already in a struggle with Islamic terrorists for its freedom even now.

I don’t believe this will come as a blinding light of epiphany to any of my readers, but I thought it was worthy of consideration, anyway!

Environmentalism vs. Socialism (Updated … slightly)

Environmentalism vs. Socialism (Updated … slightly)
By J. D. Longstreet

************************

Nearly every sentient individual in the United States is arriving at the conclusion that Global Warming is a crock. (Some sooner than others.) Millions of Americans have reached this conclusion, already, and it just irks the living daylights out of the Socialist Left.

When you place environmentalism along side Socialism, and consider them, they are so much alike it is frightening. Both want to control society, especially a capitalist society. Socialism, it would seem, has a new home… the environmental movement.

REAL scientist will tell you the climate is warming, slightly, simply because the sun is warming. Whoops, there goes the global warming hoax.

The Kyoto Treaty would have creamed the economy of the US. Why, even Bill Clinton knew that. The Congress had the good sense to turn it down, flat…even while Clinton was still in the oval office.

Now, if you know anything, at all, about running a business, you know the cost of doing business is passed on to the consumers of the products that business produces.

So, when the “Greenies” scream that Big Business will not pay the price to upgrade their equipment to meet the extremely high standards for clean air they endorse, just know that that claim is a crock, too. If you know business, you know business will not bear that cost. The consumers will. When the consumer refuses to pay that increased cost, production is cut back. When production is cut back, jobs are cut back. It is a vicious cycle and, Dear Reader; it is a cycle that would take us back to the Great Depression in just a few short years.

In the past few weeks we have seen evidence of just how fragile the economy really is. If the “Greenies” had the sense God gave a gnat, they’d know their demands would crash the US economy… unless, of course, that is exactly what they want.

So, look again at the environmentalist movement and compare it with the Socialists. Then decide for yourself if you really want to support a movement bent on the destruction of he US.

It would be near impossible to decide which is the more dangerous to the US… Environmentalism, or Islamofacism. Both, it would seem, want our destruction.

Democrats Plan Censorship With Reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine!

Democrats Plan Censorship With Reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine!

By J. D. Longstreet
*************************

We warned you the Democrats would do this and they are currently preparing to do the very thing we warned you they would. We warned you the democrats are all about raw power. The assertion of their tyranny by any means possible. The Fairness Doctrine is censorship, plain and simple. And, indications are that they’re going to pass it, in the House and Senate, if Obama is elected and he WILL sign it into law!

Read about it here:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=67863

Yes, a few months ago, Obama said he would not re-impose the so-called Fairness Doctrine, but… do you want to hang your hat on that? I mean, when the Democratic Party’s leaders are hell bent on squelching conservative talk radio can you rely on a President Obama having the spine to deny them that? I don’t think so. If a bill reaches his desk, ready for his signature, he will be reminded of the support those same leaders gave him in his campaign for the presidency, and he’ll sign it. Bet on it.

As a money making enterprise, on broadcast stations, liberal talk radio sucks. Listeners turn away in droves and stations carrying those programs cannot get advertisers because advertisers spend their money where there are listeners! They must… if their ad campaign is to be successful. With the Fairness Doctrine, a radio station and/or TV station would be bound, by law, to broadcast a liberal talk radio show for every conservative talk radio show. What that means in “money talk” is… radios stations will reduce the number of conservative programs in order to reduce the number of liberal programs to avoid losing money. It’s as simple as that. After all, they are in business to make money for their stockholders. If the stations find they must dump all political programming… they will do it, just as they did before the Reagan administration rolled back the original Fairness Doctrine.

According to an article on Front Page Magazine the Democrats are considering other ways to get the same effect as the Fairness Doctrine without having to wage the war with conservatives that is sure to come if they attempt the re-instatement of that law. You can read that article by Brian C. Anderson at:

http://frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=E9E183F1-E726-4BD5-B273-8BCD590E8916

But, there is “a kicker” in all this. It’s called the Broadcaster Freedom Act. You can the Bill here:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.02905:

What it does, in effect, is bar the Congress from ever reinstating the Fairness Doctrine. But the Speaker of the US House of Representatives will not allow an up or down vote on the Broadcaster Freedom Act. If it isn’t enacted, and Obama is elected, back comes the Fairness Doctrine.

If you are a blogger or a regular user of the Internet you must be concerned over this because sooner or later something of the same sort is bound to hit the Internet. You can bet it will be aimed at opinion sites such as this very site.

The question that worries Internet users, bloggers especially, is whether all network content can be reached equally, or will some sites be more difficult to get to than others? This is a very real concern. Don’t think it can’t happen.

There’s an article by Lance Fairchok at the American Thinker dated July 8th, 2008 entitled: “Stealing Freedom: Democrat 'Media Reform”. We recommend you read it if there is any doubt in your mind about the Fairness Doctrine. You’ll find it at:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/07/stealing_freedom_democrat_medi.html

The Fairness Doctrine, by any other name, is still censorship and an assault on the First Amendment.

Not Voting For Obama? Then, You’re Racist!

Not Voting For Obama? Then, You’re Racist!
By J. D. Longstreet
*****************************

Somewhere, sometime, somehow, somebody began the awful accusation that not voting for Obama is an act of racism. Now, we like to think of this site as “Family Oriented” so I cannot use the language I’d like to use to describe my disgust with anyone who would make such a statement.

I’M NOT VOTING FOR Obama and it has nothing to do with his race. It has everything to do with my personal belief, and the conclusion I reached after doing research into the man’s qualifications for the office, and his past record, and… the fact that, in my opinion, he is offering absolutely nothing but more trouble for America.

Look, I’m a Southern American. Many of my fellow Southern Americans have harkened back to their ancestral lineage and are now referring to themselves as “Confederate Americans” . There is even a movement afoot to have “Confederate Americans” declared a protected minority by the US Government. I kid you not! I’ve got the paper somewhere in my office. I think there is at least one copy in my briefcase.

Anyway, before I get to far a field here, being referred to as racists, just because one’s ancestry is “Southern American”, is old hat to us. Now, I’d LIKE to tell you that it doesn’t hurt. But, I’d be lying. It does hurt. If you doubt me, those of you who do not plan to vote for Obama, and have made your decision known publicly, and found that you have been called a racist… be honest, and admit that way down deep inside, where YOU live, you feel the hurt that comes from being referred to as one of the lowest dregs of any society.

Southern Americans have carried the blame for the sins of ALL of AMERICA for the awful practice of enslaving our fellowman. The entire country did it… yet we are the nation’s scapegoat for all the wrong things done under that terrible system.

So, now we come to a showdown between a white candidate and a half white candidate for the office of President of the United States. Support for the two candidates is much closer than those the polling numbers would lead us to believe. People who study these things tell us that Obama will need at least a ten-point lead in the polls to win. Two weeks out from Election Day and he doesn’t have that ten-point lead.

Many feel the polls are being skewed because Americans polled do not wish to be thought of as racist if they honestly report to the pollsters that they do not intend to vote for Obama… so they lie and indicate that they WILL support Obama on Election Day.

I am reading reports in the blogoshere about police departments and sheriff departments and even the National Guard, in some states, gearing up for riots on election night and for a few days afterwards if Obama loses his bid for the presidency. There are reports of gangland plans to assault law enforcement officers if Obama wins. How much of all these rumors is correct, or how little, is anybody’s guess. But, in my opinion, we American citizens would be wise to plan for the worse on Election Day night and be prepared for “civil disobedience” in our neighborhoods. I intend to be ready should such a thing occur in my community. (I happen to live in a majority “minority precinct”.)

Jacob Weisberg has written an article over at Slate titled: “If Obama Loses”… subtitled: “Racism is the only reason McCain might beat him”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.slate.com/id/2198397/

In my opinion, anyone who ever thought that an Obama presidency would rid America of racism must be from some planet far outside our universe. See, a racist has been redefined to mean anyone not agreeing with the Democratic Party’s platform and anyone not voting for Obama. They apparently thought it was a smart move. It was not. In fact, it shows every indication of blowing up in their faces. I predict they will rue the day they brought racism into the campaign for President of the United States.

Those of you who accuse those of us who have no intention of supporting Obama of racism have done yourselves immeasurable harm. It will not be easily forgotten, and frankly, I suspect it will be used against you and your candidates for many decades to come. You have needlessly insulted many millions of Americans who have based their decision to not vote for Obama on well thought out, well reasoned, conclusions gained after looking carefully at his naïve approach to foreign affairs, America’s place in the world, the redistribution of America’s wealth, and the undiluted socialism which he promises to use to replace America’s capitalist system that has served us well, and shot us to the top of the heap of all the nations on the globe, and kept us there even when times got tough.

No, I’m not supporting Obama because of the color of his skin. I’m not supporting Obama because I have a fundamental, and absolute, disagreement with his philosophy of government, politics, religion, and what I feel is his disconnect with the idea that is America. But, if you feel that you cannot accept an honest appraisal of candidate Obama by so many millions of Americans and you feel you must denigrate our decision by charging us with the vileness of racism, then go right ahead. But, understand this… the left’s accusation of “racists” toward us actually says far more about their own insecurity, their own inability to maintain a connection with reality, and their need to diminish another human being’s dignity and worth in order to feed their own desperate need for fulfillment and to squelch their own deep seated inferiority complex.

What a shame. You would have thought they would have grown up by now, and left the childish name calling on the kindergarten playground. But, there are those among us who simply cannot grow up. And it shows.

Let's Go Nuclear ... by Alan Caruba

Let’s Go Nuclear
By Alan Caruba
****************************
How do you know when a Green—hardcore environmentalist—is lying to you? When his lips are moving. Okay, it’s a cliché used in other cases as well, but it is especially true when the latest absurd claim comes flying at you courtesy of the mainstream media.

Take nuclear energy as an example. A new survey by Bisconti Research, taken since one conducted in April, revealed “a record-high 74% of Americans favor nuclear energy, with only 24% opposed.” That’s a big change in just five months and no doubt has a lot to do with the growing public realization that America will have an energy crisis on its hands if it does not permit new plants to be built.

“The unprecedented levels of support for nuclear energy found in this survey,” said Ann Bisconti, “can be attributed to growing concerns about energy and focus on energy alternatives.” There are few real alternatives. At present, coal-fired plants generate just over 50% of electricity and nuclear represents about 20%. The rest is made up by hydroelectric, and some natural gas. The much touted “clean” energy sources, solar and wind, only 1%.

The Greens have a long history of being opposed to nuclear energy, claiming it is too dangerous and there’s no place to put the spent rods. However, they have also been shouting about the need for “clean” energy that does not emit “greenhouse gases.” Nuclear does not do that. It emits water vapor in the form of steam and water vapor is a key element of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Moreover, there hasn’t been an accident since the problem encountered by Three Mile Island in 1979. Even then, no one was harmed. The technology since then has ensured that the nuclear energy industry is astonishingly safe.

There’s a billion dollar facility, Yucca Mountain, waiting to receive nuclear waste, but the Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, (D-NV) refuses to allow it to begin operation. The facility recently received clearance from the Environmental Protection Agency for meeting a stringent radiation protection standard. You would get more radiation from a CAT scan than Yucca Mountain.

So, while Greens tout wind and solar, two of the least effective and reliable ways to provide for the nation’s energy needs, they continue to bad mouth nuclear as a viable alternative. Its popularity is such that developing nations all over the world are seeking to build their own nuclear plants. India, for example, is embarked on an ambitious program.

Greens also are actively opposing nuclear energy. Friends of the Earth, a leading environment organization, is engaged in program to denigrate nuclear energy, calling Yucca Mountain “a false solution that would run trains full of toxic nuclear waste through neighborhoods like yours.” This ignores the fact that all manner of toxic materials move around the nation every day for manufacturing and other purposes. And they do it safely.

So what do the Greens want? It’s more like what they don’t want. They don’t want more electricity for Americans no matter what generates it.

They are opposed to all expansion and development even as the population continues to grow. That’s why you will find Greens trying to stop any form of development, whether it’s more land use for housing or more energy for electricity to light and heat it. That’s why they are against any exploration and drilling for oil and natural gas and against coal.

They are against the timber industry, too, and the production and consumption of meat, claiming that raising livestock contributes to global warming.

There is no global warming. The Earth is in a new cooling cycle, but that doesn’t slow the deluge of lies.

Palin for US President in 2012

Sarah Palin for President 2012.
By J. D. Longstreet
******************************

There is a movement “aborning” to support Sarah Palin for President in 2012.

At first glance it would seem too early to consider supporting anyone this far out from the election in 2012. But, since the Clintons introduced America to the “Never-Ending Campaign for President”, some feel conservatives had better go ahead, right now, and get the ball rolling.

There is already a website for the Sarah Palin for President campaign at:

http://voteforsarah2012.blogspot.com/

Go over and take a look. Leave a comment, if you like, and if you have a blogsite of your own, you are invited to link to the Vote for Sarah site and alert others to its existence.

It is said that small increments of time (such as weeks or months) in politics, is a lifetime. That may be, and, certainly, much can, and does, happen in the world of politics… even in hours.

With the current election “seemingly” already decided in favor of Obama, and, taking into consideration the dastardly way conservatives have been treated by the GOP in this election cycle, more and more conservatives are looking for a future candidate they can get behind early and, in doing so, serve notice on the GOP that their support (conservative support) is going to THAT candidate… and if… IF… the GOP wishes to have any support from Conservative voters… then the GOP will have to follow the conservative lead, or… just get out of the way.

Now, as a conservative, myself, I am not deceiving myself by believing the GOP will actually wake-up and see the error(s) of their way(s). See, I don’t think the GOP, in their minds, made an error! I think the GOP set out, from the very beginning in this election, to discard the conservative wing of their party and push McCain through with the belief, the conviction, if you will, that they could win this election with the support of only liberal and moderate republicans, plus the independent voters. That move was doomed to failure right from the start. But, the oh, so intelligent elite, in the Republican Party, wanted their party back, and now… they have it… for what it is worth.

For 46 years I have voted a conservative ballot. My belief in conservative values has not changed one iota in all that time. I have seen the GOP win when they placed those conservative values first and foremost in their candidate and their campaigns.

But it is clear that since 1994 the elite in the GOP have been gnashing their teeth at the mention of “conservatives” in what they truly believe is THEIR party. No matter that their liberal and moderate values had kept the republicans on the backbenches in both houses of the Congress for decades. Apparently, they liked it there… for they sure as heck seem to be bound and determined to return to those same backbenches ASAP.

Rejection is a difficult thing for the human animal to deal with. Some are just overwhelmed by it. Others become depressed and wallow in that depression, while others accept it for what it is, choose not to dwell upon it, and move on continuing to strive for bigger and better things. I sincerely hope the bulk of conservatives will accept the GOP rejection of our values and move on to form our own political party, separate from the Republicans, into which we can pour our energies and our collective talents in an effort to build a better America.

Redistribution of the Wealth
By J. D. Longstreet
**********************************

Question: Who said the following, Karl Marx or Barack Obama? “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” The answer is… BOTH. Well, Marx DID say it a little differently. Marx said it this way: “ From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.”

Shocking? No, at least not to those of us who have been paying attention to the Obama Campaign. What was shocking, well, maybe not SHOCKING, but “TELLING” was the fact that so many people WERE shocked by Mr. Obama’s utterance to a plumber named “Joe” a few days ago.

In the words of Karl Marx (above), ‘From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.’ That, dear reader, is straight out of the Communist Manifesto. Haven’t read the Communist Manifesto? You should. It will be a fantastic eye-opener if you are still undecided about whom you will vote for. You’ll find it at:

http://www.anu.edu.au/polsci/marx/classics/manifesto.html

Here are just a few things the Communist Manifesto states:

“…..But let us have done with the bourgeois objections to communism.
We have seen above that the first step in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class to win the battle of democracy.
The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state, i.e., of the proletariat organized as the ruling class; and to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible.

Of course, in the beginning, this cannot be effected except by means of despotic inroads on the rights of property, and on the conditions of bourgeois production; by means of measures, therefore, which appear economically insufficient and untenable, but which, in the course of the movement, outstrip themselves, necessitate further inroads upon the old social order, and are unavoidable as a means of entirely revolutionizing the mode of production.

These measures will, of course, be different in different countries.

Nevertheless, in most advanced countries, the following will be pretty generally applicable.

1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5. Centralization of credit in the banks of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state.
7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8. Equal obligation of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country.
10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, etc.”….

(From the Manifesto of the Communist Party by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels 1848)

For another view of the type socialism Mr. Obama is preaching let us turn to one Mr. Winston Churchill. He said this: “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”

There is an excellent article at The Chistian Science Monitor on this very subject. You’ll find it at:

http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2008/10/14/obamas-tax-plan-and-the-redistribution-of-wealth/

Then, again in 1945 Winston Churchill said this about “socialism” in a broadcast he made during the election campaign broadcast he made just before the General Election that year. Mr. Churchill said this: “…. . . a socialist policy is abhorrent to the British ideas of freedom. Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance.

In the book “The Downing Street Years” the conservative Brit, Magaret Thatcher, Former Prime Minister, believed that there was no fairer trial for socialism than in Britain in the mid-20th century, and it has been conclusively proved to be a failure.

Now… considering all this, we, here in America, are seriously considering switching from freedom and capitalism to slavery and socialism. Even the thought, itself is troubling. The choice between the two candidates for President is so clear that it cannot be confused. And yet, we have Americans who claim to be “undecided”. How can that be. The choice is clear: freedom or slavery.

The moment for indecision has long since passed. It is time now to make a commitment to see that America is preserved as the home of the free. There are no second chances or “do overs”. This election is for “keeps’. We have to get it right the first time.

The IRS Will be Hiring ... By Alan Caruba

The IRS Will be Hiring
By Alan Caruba

**************************

If Barack Obama is elected, the Internal Revenue Service had better double its workforce because the amount of cheating on tax returns will rival Italy’s.

The scariest thing about the final debate between the candidates is that both appear to be utterly oblivious to the way the Stock Market dropped 700 points on Wednesday after a brief rally the day before.

Hearing either candidate talk about spending billions to fix this or that was surreal. I don’t even know how deep in debt the nation is at this writing, but I am of the view that we don’t have billions to “fix” education, health care, or anything else. Of course, John McCain did talk about taking an axe to the budget and Barack Obama did talk about using a scalpel, but who’s kidding who here?

Any budget cutting would be an improvement over the last eight years of George W. Bush’s failure to veto any spending bill Congress, controlled by Republicans until 2006, sent his way. Only after a Democrat epiphany did W actually wield the veto in the name of fiscal prudence. By then it was too late and talk of $700 billion bailouts filled the air.

It is essential to remember that the current crisis is entirely the creation of Democrats. Starting with Roosevelt’s New Deal programs, exacerbated by Jimmy Carter’s and Bill Clinton’s exploitation of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, ignored by congressional oversight, the Democrats own this one.

It’s no comfort that Speaker Nancy Pelosi cannot wait to get the House to enact a bushel of new spending bills. The Senate historically has been a break on the short-term Representatives (two years versus the Senate’s six year terms) who, when not devoting most of their day raising money for reelection, spend the rest of it on, well, spending the public treasury for various pet projects and special interests.

Congress seems to exist in some parallel universe that has no connection to the rest of the nation. Its disconnect can be seen in the way, since Jimmy Carter was in office, Congress has actively worked against any exploration or extraction of the nation’s oil, natural gas, and coal reserves. It imposed “windfall taxes” and other restrictions until now there are only three oil companies of any size, mostly due to mergers. Now Congress apparently hates coal, too. Then there was the creation of the Department of Education, contrary to the Constitution that excludes federal involvement by not mentioning it. It effectively has nationalized the education system with a one-size-fits-all policy that totally ignores the fact that different children in different places learn at different rates. The failure of urban schools has less to do with the enormous amounts of money spent per pupil than the crime-infested, jobless streets they must walk to get to school. It’s not like their parents don’t want better schools. They do. The grip of the teacher’s unions makes that nearly impossible.

I could list other government programs, but the point is they all cost a lot of money and a lot of that money is just totally wasted. For example, the government has a host of idiotic programs involving “climate change” when no government on Earth can do a thing about the climate. Likewise, the only reason to maintain a “space” program is to hoist spy and communications satellites into position. Explore Mars? Are you kidding me?

John McCain and the Republicans are right about cutting taxes. If that doesn’t happen, this Recession I assume we’re in, will turn into a full-fledged Depression just like 1929. At that point, we won’t be able to borrow money from China, Japan, and elsewhere. At that point, it won’t matter who’s in Congress or the White House because they created the problem.

Israel and the Obama Administration. Forget About It!

Israel and the Obama Administration. Forget About It!
By J. D. Longstreet
*********************

Should Obama win the election here in America next month, the doors and windows to Israel will slam shut for members of the Obama Administration. See, Israel already knows they cannot trust an Obama administration and they will shut off all avenues of approach for the US… except for those absolutely necessary to maintain a tenuous connection to the American government.

Israel knows it cannot share intelligence with an Obama Administration. Perhaps our most valuable source of intelligence on Iran and the other rogue states in the Middle East will suddenly and completely dry up. Israel is not about to risk valuable Intel gathered by Mossad, and other Israeli intelligence agencies, being, shall we say… “shared” with the… uh… opposition. Israel cannot risk that and they won’t.

I do not mean to imply that Obama is a Muslim. I know I’m going to be accused of that. Let me just say, that it seems the Israelis have made up their minds on that matter. Let me also say…I trust Israel.

Jesse Jackson is out there saying that "decades of putting Israel's interests first" will be over under an Obama Administration. Jackson made those remarks at a World Policy Forum in Evian, France last week. You’ll find an article on that here:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/10142008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/
the_o_jesse_knows_133450.htm?page=0
(If the line is broken you may need to copy and past this URL into your browser. We apologize for the inconvenience.)

How do you suppose that made Israel feel? Not charitable toward Obama, I suspect. (Of course, this is the same Jackson who made the remark about altering Obama’s anatomy near what he (Jackson) thought was a dead microphone. As a long time veteran of the broadcast industry, I offer a bit of advice to everyone. When you see a microphone… always assume it is “live”. ALWAYS!)

Now, I have been accused, just a few days ago, of being a “nut job” supporting Israel and waiting for the Rapture. First let me say that I am an old Lutheran. My support of Israel has nothing to do with the Rapture. It has to do with common sense and my parents raising me to look out for the little guy, the underdog, especially if that underdog is on my side. Add to that the fact that I don’t hate Jews and well, I suppose that makes me some sort of thoroughbred bigot. I’ll leave it to those of you who feel you must have someone to hate in order to feel some sense of self-worth to decide what pigeonhole to put me in. Frankly, I don’t care.

There is an excellent article at the American Thinker titled: “Barack Obama and Israel”. The article is by Ed Lasky. We recommend you read it. You’ll find it at:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/01/barack_obama_and_israel.html

As one who does not favor a Palestinian state… at all, I tend to look with disfavor on those in the US government who do. I never supported the current administration’s aims toward establishing a Palestinian state and I certainly will not support any future President’s attempts to do the same thing whether republican or democrat.

Obama’s insistence that he will “talk” with Iran about abandoning their drive toward development of an Atomic Bomb is chilling to say the least. It will accomplish nothing good, and, at the same time, any “official” talks with Iran will only elevate Iran in the eyes of it’s supporters and encourage other rogue states to follow the same route Iran is following today.

Israel would be well advised, it seems to me, to go ahead, at the earliest possible moment (certainly before Obama takes office should he win the election) and bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities with a time window for follow-up raids as necessary. Make no mistake about it…the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities is a must. It now appears that Israel is the only country with the “stones” to take on the task, and they must be prepared to do it alone and survive the diplomatic hailstorm that will follow.

Look, if Iran is not stopped we are looking at a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East. Israel has it’s own nuclear arsenal, which it is absolutely prepared to use to ensure it’s survival. The moment Iran fires a nuclear tipped missile in Israel’s direction Iran will be the country that will cease to exist…whether we have an Obama Administration or not.

There is good reason to suspect there will be little if any cooperation between Israel and an Obama Administration. We can only hope Israel has leaders who will dig in their heels and refuse to bow to pressure from a likely Obama Administration to accommodate the demands of the Islamic states surrounding her.

A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand.

A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand.
By J. D. Longstreet

****************************

"And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand". From the Bible, Matthew 12:25.

The schism that slices through America today has been widening since the 19th century. Little by little, decade-by-decade, year-by-year it has continued to get ever wider and ever deeper. It has nothing to do with geography. It has nothing to do with slavery… and, yet, it has everything to do with slavery.

What, you say? Didn’t we put the slavery issue to rest with a war in the 1860’s? The truthful answer is NO, we did not. We put to rest the issue of whether or not a man could hold another man in bondage in this country. What we did not put to rest, however, is the question of whether this country’s government could hold its citizens in bondage.

The founders of this country intended to set up a government with very little power. They intended the government to have only the power the citizens allowed it to have. Almost instantly the power struggle began between those who wanted a strong central government and those who wanted strong states and a weak central government. After all, it was The States that created the Federal Government… as a utility of the states. Not the other way around. Look it up.

In 1860 there were 33 states in the so-called United States of America. I do mean “so-called” because they were anything but UNITED. By the spring of 1861 thirteen of those states had had enough of being dictated to by a dictatorial federal government wielding powers the constitution did not grant it, so they waved goodbye and took their leave of the United States. They created a country of their own with a constitution (mostly copied from the original constitution of the US) and they became a separate country.

A few Americans today actually know what caused that split. A handful of Americans understand what the ensuing war was fought about

A few million Americans still feel the sting of being forced, at the point of a government bayonet, to be a part of a country their ancestors had forsaken in order to set up a government in the image of the government the Founding Fathers of America had given the United States.

A few million Americans who either live in, or hail from, the only portion of this country to ever be invaded, conquered, and occupied by a foreign power, understand what is happening in America today, not because we learned it in school, no… because we learned it from the stories our families have handed down from generation to generation and from our own research into what happened to a country which had, less than a hundred years before, won it’s Independence from the Mother Country. We are scattered all over America today. We see where America is headed… and we fear for our fellow Americans because they/we are not ready for the cost of what is about to happen to her. None of us are. What America is facing, in the next few years, will make the American Civil War seem like a Sunday School picnic.

Yes, I am referring to SLAVERY. Voluntary slavery to begin with… then involuntary slavery… when it is then too late. The socially accepted word for it these days is… SOCIALISM.

In just a few days Americans will go to the polls to exercise a right granted them by their states… not the federal government. The issue we will be voting for, or against, is slavery. Whether America should stay free, or whether America should give up the freedom so many have fought, bled, and died for, and assume the yoke and chains of slavery under socialism.

Make no mistake. SOCIALISM IS SLAVERY. Under socialism you will give up all your rights… all your freedom for security guaranteed by the Central Government. Believe me, if you think democracy is expensive; wait ‘til you have to pay for all those FREE programs.

All my instincts tell me that Americans are willing to give up everything for the promise of security. Of all things “un-American”… that is the MOST un-American. But, that is what I expect to happen on Election Day.

Do not expect the half of the country who stands solidly against socialism to go along, quietly, into the self inflicted slavery of this hell-spawned form of government we call socialism.

If the country votes in favor of socialism, on November 4th, all bets are off. The word “United” can be dropped from the country’s name. The country will be torn in two. And there will be no compromise. It cannot be healed, ever, again. Two peoples, this diametrically opposed, cannot share the same space. Only the most naive among us cannot understand where this argument over how we are to be governed will eventually wind up. Americans have been there before. More Americans died in the first American Civil War than in all the wars in which America has fought since her founding. And today, at least half of this country is deadly in earnest about their love of freedom and are willing to sacrifice, as their forefathers did, to preserve it.

Yes, we are in dangerous times. Extremely dangerous. If you have not taken the time to consider, seriously, how you will vote then may we suggest you do so, and do so prayerfully.

Race as an Election Factor ... by Alan Caruba

Race as an Election Factor
By Alan Caruba

****************************

I find it remarkable that so little attention has been paid to the role of race in the 2008 election, especially since, for the first time in the nation’s history, one of the parties has nominated a man who, though biracial, identifies himself as Afro-American or Black.

Throughout most of America’s elections, race was a factor, going all the way back to the way opponents of Thomas Jefferson spread rumors of a relationship between him and his slave, Sally Hemmings. Turned out the rumors were true, but Jefferson became our third president anyway.

Slavery, a racial issue, would eventually lead to a rupture among the states, much as the Founding Fathers had feared when they created the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederacy. A Civil War would be fought to settle the matter. What followed was a century of suppression of blacks and a resistance, led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., that would erupt in the 1960s.

A lot of people, following the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, concluded that, at last, America had put the issue of race and bias behind it. Not so. The vast majority of those in poverty today are descendents of those Black Americans who were granted a further layer of protection of their constitutional rights in the 1960s.

Add to them a whole new layer of society in the form of a huge influx of illegal aliens, primarily Mexicans and those of Hispanic descent, some of whom were granted citizenship via an amnesty in 1986. A second effort to provide amnesty to an estimated twelve million illegal aliens was defeated in 2006 due to a massive public outcry.

In a new book, “Segregation: The Rising Costs for America”, its authors argue that, “By the middle of this century, today’s minorities will constitute half of the U.S. population and that fast-growing population is disproportionately impoverished, ill-housed, poorly educated, and tenuously linked to labor markets.”

The book was published just as the financial system of the nation crashed, due almost entirely to laws that required mortgage loans, called sub-prime, be made to minorities in order that they be able to live in homes that it turns out they could not afford. Thus, a liberal program based on the view that the poor have a “right” to live beyond their means has created a crisis that has destroyed several banks and investment firms, and imperiled one of the nation’s largest insurance firms. Much of the value of stocks has been lost as well.

This is a financial crisis that is the direct result of a foolish notion that was entirely rooted in race. The problems associated with crime in America are largely rooted in race and the failure to stem the tide of illegal aliens. The nation’s jails are filled with minorities. The costs are measured in the billions.

It is one thing to open doors to opportunity. It is quite another to get people to walk through them. In the case of the illegal aliens, even the fences at the border could not keep them out and, once here, made them instant criminals breaking our laws.

One man has risen to challenge for the highest position in the land. He has been received by cheering throngs. And he is indisputably Black.

I think it would be a great mistake to think that Barack Obama’s racial identity would contribute to a reduction in any of the social problems afflicting America’s Black community. If anything, a Democrat controlled Congress is likely to repeat the same kinds of mistakes that produced the financial crisis.

Indeed, just as politicians used race in former times to influence the outcome of an election, Obama is the consummate politician and will do the same. If anything, Obama’s race, if he is elected, could lead to unrealistic expectations and possibly even social unrest.

Some may vote for him out of “white guilt” over offenses done to Blacks in a previous era, but no one living today ever owned a slave. Those whites who grew up in the segregated South, as often as not will tell you they were as trapped in its constrictions as Blacks. Most are glad to see the Jim Crow era gone.

But in countless ways segregation is not gone and it is practiced every day on a purely voluntary basis. Watch how students segregate themselves by race in a high school cafeteria. Watch how their parents segregate themselves by race when they attend church on Sunday. Watch how the two races tend to congregate in largely separate sections of a community.

Segregation or human nature? Discrimination or the choice of people to live among those who share their race, their heritage, their values, their culture? There’s a reason one can visit San Francisco’s or New York’s famed China Towns. Depending on where you live, tides of Russians, Indians, and of course Hispanics have created their own “towns.”

Remember, too, that even in Congress, there is a Black Caucus.

Race will surely be a factor in the 2008 election. It will be a factor long after.

McCain Supports Obama? WHAT?

McCain Supports Obama? What?

By: J. D. Longstreet
*************************************

Yep! By all accounts that is exactly what happened. It happened on Friday of last week at a town hall style gathering when McCain tried to calm a man concerned about raising his child with Obama as President. McCain is reported to have said that Barack Obama “… is a "decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States." It was at about this point in the McCain Campaign when the McCain train went completely off the rails it was only partially on up to that point.

I have been monitoring the blogoshere since that happened and I must tell you, if you don’t already know, those remarks, in support of Mr. Obama, began a firestorm of dissent against Mr. McCain among his own reluctant supporters.

Conservatives who had made their minds up to hold their noses and vote for McCain, go home and take a shower, are now re-evaluating that decision and many are walking away from McCain… in droves. It is not what one could describe as a trickle… it is more like a dam burst. To say there has been a backlash against McCain would be the understatement of the year.

For conservatives, making the decision to go against their conscious and support McCain was a heart-rending exercise. Some of us have simply refused to do it from the very beginning, myself included. I would not even entertain the notion of supporting McCain. But for a few weeks it appeared that most republican conservatives had decided to do just that in order to keep a man, they honestly believe is a socialist, out of the White House.

Appointments to the US Supreme Court are extremely high on the list of concerns for conservatives and that was one of the arguments employed to persuade conservatives to support McCain. But now, conservatives are asking themselves, what guarantees do they have that McCain WOULD appoint conservative nominees to fill the coming vacancies n the SCOTUS? The honest answer is NONE! What about moderate nominees? The answer is the same. Remember, A President McCain would likely have a democrat controlled Senate for at least two years.

McCain is a lot of things… but he is not conservative. So, pleased do not insult conservatives by referring to him as such.

Mr. McCain’s show of support for Obama last week was the last straw for many conservative voters. In fact conservative hardliners consider it “the straw that broke the camel’s back”. Already upset at being pressured, by fellow republicans, regaling them with: “a refusal to vote for McCain is a vote for Obama”, many rightwing conservatives have simply left the field. They can no longer be counted as probable voters for McCain. They’re going to “stay home.”

This conservative will be voting on Election Day. I won’t be voting for McCain, however. I will write in the name of a conservative I believe the leading lights in the GOP rejected in their ill-advised attempt to redefine conservatism and, in so doing, change the face of the Republican Party. Oh, in the end, they will have accomplished something. Unfortunately, for the country, they will have ushered in European style socialism and become accomplices in the death of representative democracy and capitalism in America.

Why I Believe McCain Will Lose

Why I Believe McCain Will Lose
By: J. D. Longstreet
**************************

There is a lot of dejection in the ranks of the Republican Party these days. As the rank and file of the GOP looks at the disparaging poll numbers the fear is growing that McCain will not be able to close the gap on Obama before Election Day.

Conservatives, never happy with, nor ever quite sure of McCain’s chances in the first place, yet willing to hold their noses and cast a ballot for him in a desperate attempt to thwart the leftist agenda Obama will carry with him into the Oval Office, are the MOST discouraged, it seems to me.

Since the 2000 election campaign, we here at IoF have declared that John McCain will never be President of the United States. We still believe that.

Conservative voters have been loath to support the McCain ticket. Without the support of conservatives a GOP candidate can forget victory in a Presidential campaign. Without that conservative support there is no “fire” in the campaign. The fighting spirit, which rests almost entirely with conservatives on the right, simply is not there. You cannot have missed the lack of zest and zeal in the McCain Campaign. You don’t see it because… it isn’t there.

Even those conservatives who have vowed to support McCain after he brought Palin on board have withheld total commitment. Their heart is just not in it.

Since day one of the campaign for the oval office 2008 conservatives have scratched their collective heads in wonderment at the candidates the GOP wheeled out for our inspection. At first, we thought it was a bad joke. Then, it was rumored that the upper echelons in the party were saying they didn’t need conservative support to win the White House. We KNEW the party was in serious trouble at that moment.

There has been a tug of war within the GOP since the conservative take-over in the mid 1990’s. The resentment of the bluebloods and the country club Republicans toward the K-Mart Republicans has been palpable. You see… we conservatives are something of an embarrassment to them. For the most part they are the moderate to liberal branch of the GOP. (Oh, yes. Just as there are conservative democrats there are liberal republicans.) Unfortunately, the liberal republicans carry with them that “liberal guilt” just the same as their democrat counterparts. I am of the opinion there is nothing so dangerous to the country as liberal guilt no matter if the liberal is republican or democrat.

On the other side of the political spectrum the democrat party is not really a “party”. It is more an amalgamation of victim’s groups, bound together in their perceived victimhood, seeking redress from the government. They have been thus for a very long time and, in that time, have forged a bond between them in order to attain their goals. It is quite different in the GOP.

In the Republican Party, the differences between the two main groups, the liberals and the conservatives, is much wider… and… that gap can never be closed… even temporarily in order to secure victory. Conservatives can never compromise their core beliefs. Even an attempt is doomed to failure. The instant conservatives make an attempt to compromise; they are no longer conservative. You can see the problem.

And that, dear reader, is why I continue to call for a solely conservative political party. The infighting within the GOP is not going to cease until conservatives leave. Of course, the moment conservatives DO leave; the GOP will be relegated to the backbenches in Congress for a hundred years, or more.

The McCain Campaign has been a lost cause from the beginning. Apparently McCain thought he could replace conservative support with the support of Independent voters. That was never very likely because such a large percentage of independent voters are conservative voters who, for one reason or the other, left the two dominant political parties. No matter who chose that course, McCain or his advisors, in my opinion, it was unwise and it may well cost him this election. In the long run, however, conservatives may benefit from the GOP loss in November.

Why?

There is a major firestorm coming, nationally and internationally. There will be epiphanies by the bundles landing on the doorsteps of naïve American voters in the next few years. The cost of living in the US is going to skyrocket upwards along with taxes and new laws and regulations the likes of which we have never seen before. Add to that the spread of Islamofacism and the accompanying wars and rumors of wars and the ever-increasing drain on our treasury to fight those wars, here at home as well as in foreign lands, and you begin to get the picture.

Conservatives have been warning of the multitude of festering boils about to erupt but… nobody wanted to listen. In a few months reality will set in and with it a slow awakening. By then, of course, the US Ship of State will have sailed and like any ship it will take an interminably long time to turn it around and set it’s course aright. If, and it is a big “IF”, we are able to overcome what is headed our way, and begin a successful program of reconstruction, the country may find it necessary to turn to conservative leadership in order to rebuild the country and rehabilitate what will surely be a decimated military and a dispirited citizenry.

For a number of years now, decades even, there has been a growing sense, in the human psyche, that something dark and foreboding is on the threshold. I have felt it and now I sense its growing strength and it’s growing inevitability. In my opinion, there are extremely dark times ahead for America… just months ahead, in fact. We will be sorely tried, perhaps, as never before. What is even more troubling, to me, is my concern that we cannot turn back, nor can we influence what is about to happen. It is far too late. The dye is cast. Now we can only watch and wait and do whatever is necessary to survive as a nation.

The Secret

July 2007
The Secret We All Know But Will Not Speak Aloud.

By J. D. Longstreet
********************************

The Marxist based politically correct movement has given Americans a sense of deep shame. It has also given us a sense of vulnerability we did not have before The Political Correctness Movement arrived from Europe onto our shores.

As a result American dare not speak the truth… about anything. If one speaks the truth one may offend someone else and that is unacceptable in a society ruled by Marxism… excuse me, I mean… Political Correctness. Ask our cousins in the United Kingdom. They are smothered, practically to death, by layers of political correctness.

Political correctness has forced the US to turn out several generations of students from our public schools with mediocre, or less than mediocre, educations. We turn out some of the dumbest students on the globe! Many receive diplomas they can’t even read! Foreign students run rings around our public school educated students.

This country’s education system used to be celebrated, world wide, as the best. Then it collapsed.

So, what happened?

Integration happened. Then bussing happened. And between the two we managed to destroy the world’s best education system.

We saw the collapse as it happened, but nobody would stand up and point out what was happening and why. There was the looming Damocles Sword over the heads of anyone stupid enough to cry foul! And, so, we allowed our public school system to die a slow and horrible death.

Now, I am aware that I will get comments on this article calling me a racist and a bigot. I understand that. Because, as a southerner, I have come to expect that from those who are so ignorant they have no clue how else to respond. So, I’ll just overlook those comments and continue on.

First of all… I live in an integrated neighborhood. My neighbors, across the street, are black. My neighbors behind me, whose property abuts mine, are black. My neighbors, two doors down, are black. I hired the first black broadcaster and added him to the staff of an all white broadcast station in Southeastern North Carolina… in the seventies! So… if you still want to contend I am a racist… then have at it.

Did you ever visit several churches on a Sunday morning and observe how your community is segregated during the worship hour? It is probably the most segregated hour of the week in America. Folks are given a choice as to where they wish to worship, and with whom they wish to worship, and they choose, by the vast majority, to worship with other folks of the same race.

Now… visit your neighborhood school during the lunch hour and observe the way the students, when given the freedom to decide where they will sit in the cafeteria, choose to sit with other students of their own race. You’ll see the same phenomena at athletic events.

There is a tension between the races, in our schools, and there has been since integration was forced upon the students of America. Neither side particularly liked it. That tension exists and it is palpable in the schools you might visit today.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I think integration of public schools is fine. What I think is NOT fine, and is absolutely wrong, is… forced integration of those schools. And to make matters even worse, forced bussing of students to fill some quota, or other, of blacks vs. whites in the student bodies of those schools. NOBODY likes it.

If a neighborhood school has black and white students, by choice, then that is fine. Those students and their families want them to be there and they are comfortable and an atmosphere, conducive to learning, is not destroyed by dissatisfaction among the students and the parents of those students.

So… why are we doing it? And why are we continuing to graduate students from our public school system who are simply not educated enough to function in today’s society… let alone compete in the global marketplace?

I was fortunate in that I graduated High School before the integration of our schools began. Believe it, or not, a high school education in the 1950’s was better than a 2 year college degree today. The high school graduates of the 1950’s could stand toe to toe with, and best, nearly any two year college grad today. The quality of the education American students received in the 1950’s was so far superior to anything the American student gets today that it is shocking!

College professor friends tell me that, these days, the first two years of college is basically remedial. The college must teach the high school graduate what he was not taught in high school before he, or she, can embark on their college studies. That, dear reader, speaks volumes about the inferior education system we have in America today.

So… how do we fix it? I don’t think we can. I would suggest scraping the American public education system and starting over. To guarantee schools are allowed to actually teach their students, keep the federal government completely out of the new public school system. Each state should have it’s own public school system. No feds allowed.

Open the schools to mixed races. If the student s and their families wish to attend a certain school, then allow them to do so…even if that means having some schools predominantly black and others predominately white. Who cares… as long as the students are happy and are getting a quality education?

Private schools and home schools will still exist and that would be fine, too, for those who wish to go that route.

Do you see the problem with this, though? We have too many power hungry politicians in DC who simply cannot allow American students to go through 12 years of public education without being guinea pigs in their great social experiments with the young people of America. And that is exactly how we got into this mess with under educated students in America today!

All of the above is troubling. But… what is even more troubling is the fact that we Americans see the problems, we see the reasons behind the problem, we know how to fix the problem, yet… we allow it to exist and we continue sentence our young students to a life of mediocrity… all because we are afraid to speak up and correct an imminently correctable situation!

How can we do this to our kids? How can we do this to ourselves? How can we do this to our nation… and expect our nation to survive, and compete, in a world of scholars and in a global marketplace run by scholars? At some point it will all catch up with us.

If you doubt me on the effect on our society the destruction of the public education system in America has already had… I offer as evidence… exhibit “A”… the US Congress!

Are the Dems Celebrating Too Soon?

Are the Dems Celebrating Too Soon?
Is Celebrating a Disaster Wrong?
By; J. D. Longstreet
************************************

I was thinking the other day as I read, listened to, and watched all the dismal poll data showing the republican candidate for president down and falling in the polls… where have I seen this before? Well, it didn’t take long to find out. It was the Reagan/Carter race back in the 1980 election. As unlikely as it may seem, looking back on it from this vantage point, that race was a cliffhanger until less than 72 hours before the vote. And then the dam burst for Reagan.

John Zogby, of the Zogby Poll says, in an article in the Boston Herald that he doesn’t think Obama has “closed the deal” with voters yet. You can read the article at:

http://news.bostonherald.com/news/2008/view.bg?articleid=1124117&srvc=2008campaign&position=8

Conservatives fault McCain for not having closed the deal himself. Many of us feel that McCain could have, and should have, run a much more aggressive campaign than he has so far. The Obama campaign has handed the McCain camp campaign issues McCain could have easily used against Obama and yet, he hasn’t used them. That failure to attack has created a load of consternation among conservatives. Some leading lights in the conservative camp are saying that conservatives will have to drag McCain over the line to victory on Election Day if he is to win. Understand… McCain still doesn’t have the conservative republicans in his pocket. They are in Palin’s pocket… not McCain’s.

Along about this time in 2000, if memory serves, the pollsters had Gore approximately 11 points ahead in the polls. In 2004, right wing radio talkers were saying the race was Kerry’s to lose… and yet, Bush won both. Go figure.

There is a different feel to this election campaign than others I have experienced. And I have experienced a LOT of presidential elections. I blame much of that on my own disappointment in the American electorate. One likes to think his fellow Americans are smarter than they, in fact, are. I am disappointed at how easily the electorate is herded toward a candidate who, no matter how you consider his credentials is absolutely not qualified to be president of a country, certainly not this country. And yet, uneducated as they are about the issues of the day, they bite the bait, and drink the kool-aid, and fall in step behind a candidate who is leading them to… who knows what? They certainly do not know!

At the risk of sounding like a pamphleteer in the pre-Revolutionary days in American… these are perilous times. To be absolutely honest with you, who in their right mind would want to be President considering what the next President will have facing him the moment he takes his hand off the Bible at the swearing in. (You DO know he is already sworn in before we actually see him take the oath…right? Oh, yeah, that is done quietly, out of sight of the public.) The nation is at war, and no matter what any candidate tells you, no matter what any political party tells you, that is not going to change anytime soon. We are not going to be able to disengage our troops from the Middle East no matter how much howling goes up from the left. It ain’t gonna happen. That fact alone means a world of hurt for Obama, with his constituency, should he win. The economy is shot to hell, and we are looking at decades of recovery time. Guess who will get the blame for that slow recovery… no matter who the left tries to pin that on. If McCain wins all this blame is going to fall on him.

Now, at the risk of sounding like a prophet of doom… I don’t think the economic slide is nearly over yet. Rumors are floating around that other huge manufacturers will go belly-up next year if they don’t receive billions more of taxpayer money to bail them out. Here in my own neck of the woods a large employer, an international company based in the US, is closing the local plant and laying off 400 employees the first of December, just before Christmas. (A heck of a Christmas gift, what?) Having been through these economic slowdowns before, a number of times while managing a business myself, and trying to keep it afloat, experience tells me this is going to take time… and before it is over… a lot of Americans are going to be hurt. Care to venture a guess as to whom they are going to take that anger out on? You got it! The new President will be at the center of that bull’s eye.

Another thing, should Obama win, where, pray tell, is he going to get all that money necessary to implement all those new programs he is promising? See, the money is gone… and then some! Can you say… TAXES! Taxes on big business? Are you aware that currently the US has the highest corporate taxes of any nation on earth? Would you be surprised if big business began pulling out of the US and taking their operations over to, oh, say, China, where, in some circumstances, they are offering NO corporate taxes for companies that relocate to China.

These are all important issues voters absolutely must consider before casting that ballot in November. If you are reading this it means that you are one of the Americans who cares about what is going on today and how a wrong decision at the polling place will impact your future and the future of your family, your neighbors, and your nation.

One thing is for certain. This is not the time in the history of this country to elect a novice to the office of President of the United States. The wolves are circling just waiting to learn how Americans vote. The wrong vote will bring them bounding in to devour the poor, unsuspecting, newly elected, quite likely overwhelmed, leader of a nation in dire straits.

Yes, we have the strongest, best equipped, and best-trained military in the world. But it is simply not nearly large enough to meet such a challenge. We are going to need, and I hate to say it, a military draft to at least double, preferably triple, the size of the standing military we have today. That will cost billions, even trillions, more money.

I do not doubt that America will pull out of this mess, but it is going to cost money and worse… it is going to cost American blood. But…we have no choice. These things weigh heavily on the minds of thinking Americans who understand the danger in which this country currently finds itself. I don’t worry about how they will cast their ballots. No, those who worry me are the unthinking, the unknowing voter, those ruled by emotion, those blinded by race, by perceived slights, real or unreal, slights they feel have been done them by their fellow Americans, who will take this opportunity to cast a ballot in angry protest no matter the cost to themselves or their country. They do not seem to understand, or they simply do not care, that they will be the first segment of American society to be hurt, if not destroyed, by the pain and anguish brought by a wrong decision at the ballot box in November. That’s what worries me as the election draws ever nearer.

The Last Election

The Last Election.
By J. D. Longstreet
*********************

We are fast approaching the general election, in November, here in the United States. For those of you outside the US, this is "The Big One". This is the election we hold every four years to decide the direction the United States will take for the next four years, at the very least. Every time one of these elections rolls around we bill it as the most important election… ever. And that is true. Every last one of these elections is, in fact, the most important election in the United States… EVER.

But this 2008 election could be the election that shuts down the greatest experiment in democracy ever to be tried in the history of this planet.

Why?

Because, this time around, Americans are deciding whether they wish to remain free, or, if they really wish to enslave themselves, and their neighbors, in the morass of soul rotting socialism. All indicators, at the moment, say that Americans are prepared to give up freedom, next month, for the false promise(s) of socialism.

Now, understand this: for those of us who pay attention to history and to world events… we have come to KNOW, deep down, where we live, that socialism equals slavery. You can parse it anyway you like… but in the end… we believe socialism and slavery are the same thing… at least the results of both are the same. So… why are the masses trailing after the candidate many of us closely associate with socialism begging for anything from him, a glance, a raised eyebrow, a wave of the hand, maybe a touch… anything? The bottom line is: ignorance.

We have at least two generations of Americans who have been taught in America's public education system that socialism is a good thing. It is a fair thing. It is an equitable thing. Of course it is none of those, but, you see, in their ignorance they believe it is… and they want it! They're looking for handouts; they're looking for freebies from the government. That alone demonstrates their utter lack of knowledge about government, what it is and how it works. They don't understand, or they don't care, that the US government has no money of it's own. Which, of course, means that money must be taken from someone else to give to those with their hands out. The source of the money the government hands out is the American taxpayer. That's you and me, our neighbors, little business and big business.

In the socialist movement, in America today, there is a partition dividing the two classes within the movement. On one side of the partition are the pawns. They are the "needy" ones. The voters who want something from the government, such as socialized healthcare. The leftist candidate, and those clinging to him, as well as a large block of voters from the right side of the political spectrum make up the bulk of that division. On the opposite side of the partition are the "super elite" running this scam on the ignorant American voters amongst the vast American electorate, both left and right. The reach and influence of this "super elite" is so vast that it includes controlling political candidates so naïve they actually believe THEY (The candidates) are in control and will be in control should they actually win their respective elections. In fact, it is the "super elite" pulling the strings. The "super elite" are the manipulators. They are often referred to as "The Shadow Government".

Read the following quote carefully: “It is becoming increasingly apparent to American citizens that government is no longer being conducted in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, or, within states, according to state constitutions. While people have recognized for more than 150 years that the rich and powerful often corrupt individual officials, or exert undue influence to get legislation passed that favors their interests, most Americans still cling to the naive belief that such corruption is exceptional, and that most of the institutions of society, the courts, the press, and law enforcement agencies, still largely comply with the Constitution and the law in important matters. They expect that these corrupting forces are disunited and in competition with one another, so that they tend to balance one another.

Mounting evidence makes it clear that the situation is far worse than most people think, that during the last several decades the U.S. Constitution has been effectively overthrown, and that it is now observed only as a façade to deceive and placate the masses. What has replaced it is what many call the Shadow Government.” (From: “The Shadow Government”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.constitution.org/shad4816.htm

Take a step back and look at the candidates we have running for President of the US today. How often have you asked yourself… “Is this the best my party could offer for the extremely important office of President of the United States?” I have certainly asked it of myself, and I’d venture a guess that you have, as well, both republican and democrat. Is it not obvious to you that something is amiss? We KNOW there are men and women far more qualified for president than those on the tickets of the Democratic and Republican parties. If you are honest with yourself, do you not, just a tiny bit, suspect a set-up? HAVE we been set up?

And why socialism? Simple really. Democracy, even the kind of democracy we have in this representative republic, just gets in the way of the super elite, “the shadow government”. I am convinced they want it gone. In it’s place they will install “Central Planning”. Central planning is at the core of any socialist government. So… for the “powers that be” to be able to exercise unrestrained control they need socialism in America.

Government control of the financial markets is must for central planning to be successful. Last week we gave the US government effective control of our financial markets. Do you see a pattern emerging here? (And I haven’t even mentioned the ongoing efforts toward a North American Union.)

I think it is fair, even timely, to ask: Is this the last election? Honestly, I don’t have the answer to that. Too much is yet unknown. But enough is known and enough is suspected that American voters, of a right, ought to be extremely concerned over the direction in which we are been herded like sheep. I, for one, resent it and I , for one, want my country back.

The Ethanol Election Issue ... by Alan Caruba

The Ethanol Election Issue
By Alan Caruba

****************************

The issue of the nation’s financial and economic security is likely to dominate the November 4 election. Earlier in the campaign cycle we might have assumed that foreign affairs and energy would be uppermost on the minds of voters, but we’re told that, ultimately, voters vote their pocketbooks.

One place they most notice a major problem, however, is at the gas pump where prices continue to remain over $3.50 a gallon. It is doubtful anyone really thinks about the part of that cost that can be attributed to the government mandate that each gallon include ethanol. Other costs include the government mandated different blends of gasoline required in different regions or sections of the nation. The refinery costs of that are built into the price as well. Then, of course, there are the federal and state gasoline taxes that add considerably to the cost.

The consumer is constantly being told that the cost is determined by the global marketplace for oil and, to an extent this is true. However, left largely unsaid is the role the government plays in its refusal to permit exploration and extraction of oil reserves that are either known or which potentially exist on the mainland and off the continental shelf of the nation.

The mere mention of offshore drilling by Sen. John McCain was sufficient to drive down the global price per barrel for a while. It lifted his campaign prospects. Largely unexamined, however, have been Sen. Barack Obama’s long-held positions on ethanol production.

Dennis T. Avery, a senior fellow with the Hudson Institute and Director of Global Food Issues, recently took note of the disparities between the candidate’s positions on ethanol. “Obama wants more ethanol, while McCain thinks we should probably have less,” noting that “both say man-made global warming is a serious threat, and both say they want the best for the nation’s farmers.”

Both candidates are wrong on many counts, not the least is their belief that global warming is either man-made or actually happening. It is not. Ironically, the wailing about man-made greenhouse gas emissions completely ignores the fact that ethanol actually contributes more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere while, at the same time, decreasing the mileage per gallon of gasoline.

Avery says that “global food and feed demand will double over the next 40 years” and that is leading to the clearing of forests to grow more corn, both as a gasoline additive and as food. Forests absorb carbon dioxide. They are often called “carbon sinks.” In addition, the more ethanol plants there are, the higher the price of corn rises due to demand.

Robert Bryce, the author of “Gusher of Lies”, one of the best books on global energy issues you will ever read, is also a co-editor of Energy Tribune, a leading monthly. In the October edition, he takes aim at ethanol calling it a scam and “pure, unadulterated lunacy.”

Bryce writes, “Barack Obama doesn’t want to talk about corn ethanol. And it’s no wonder. In early August, his campaign Web site purged several sections of his energy plan that talked about corn ethanol.

Before the purge, Obama was touting corn ethanol as a pivotal element in his push for ‘energy independence.’ His site declared that Obama ‘will require 36 billion gallons of renewable fuels to be included in the fuel supply by 2022 and will increase that to at least 60 billion gallons of advanced biofuels like cellulosic ethanol by 2030.”

By August, however, Obama had come up with a new set of talking points on energy and “All mentions of corn ethanol were removed,” wrote Bryce. “The word ‘ethanol’ only appears once.”

Do not be fooled. Obama is a major proponent of ethanol. Bryce reports that, “In January 2007, Obama and two other senators, Democrat Tom Harkin of Iowa and Republican Richard Lugar of Indiana, introduced legislation called the ‘American Fuels Act of 2007.’ It aimed at promoting the use of ethanol and provided mandates for the use of more biodiesel.”

Obama’s national campaign co-chair is Tom Daschle, the former Senate majority leader and longtime ethanol booster. Daschle serves on the boards of three key ethanol companies. Obama represents Illinois, a state that trails only Iowa and Nebraska in ethanol production capacity.

If you have any hope of seeing the price of gasoline reduced or the cost of food decrease, that will not happen if Obama is elected. At the very least, McCain has signaled that he is no fan of ethanol.

Uh… What Happened to the “Bailout”?

Uh… What Happened to the “Bailout”?
By: J. D. Longstreet
*************************

Well… what happened? Pelosi, Frank, Reid, and yes, McCain, Bush, and let us not forget Obama, and that crowd of old hippies in Congress… aw, you know... the experts on finance, the folks who want to nationalize the nations financial markets… YEAH, that bunch… assured us the nation and the world had been saved by the 700 billion, no, wait, that’s 800 billion, no, wait, it’s 850 billion… and climbing “rescue”. Remember. Well, it was SO long ago. Why, that was way back last … week… last Friday to be exact.

Monday, the US Stock market reacted as if a Black Hole had opened in the floor beneath the exchange and sucked all the money down it.

So now the “Cover Your A**” maneuvers begin, big time, in Washington, DC.

Hey, I’m just an ole country boy, down here in the swamps of the Southeastern US, and I will survive no matter what the economy does, or doesn’t do, as the case may be. Reminds me of the old country tune: “Country Boys will Survive”. There’ll be no jumping out of skyscraper windows down here. Heck, you’d have to drive 150 miles to find a building tall enough to jump off with the expectation of anything worse than a sprained ankle, anyway!

But, the big boys are circling the wagons and preparing to defend the positions they took last week on rescuing the nation’s economy. All the while, they are looking for a scapegoat when all they have to do is look in the nearest mirror. As we reminded readers last week, it was the federal government that caused all this, to begin with, and now they have doused the fire with gasoline, with their near trillion dollar bailout, and as many of us warned, the fire has only gotten worse. And, to the chagrin of our socialist brethren in Europe and even Asia, it has spread to them.

Sometimes doing nothing is exactly the right thing to do! Unfortunately the government doesn’t see it that way.

The immediate excuse for this debacle is that the “Bailout” is not working fast enough. The claim is that companies are not able to get the money they need to finance acquisitions or for normal day-to-day operating expenses. Look, I took my business training at a School of Business at a noted university here in the state and they taught us about “reserves” and things like “working capital”, you know, good business practices. Heck, I’ve still got my textbooks on it. Seems to me a heck of a lot of the folks in the leading corporations and banking institutions must have missed those classes.

This mess, this debacle, this …OK, I can’t think of a word that describes the situation the financial markets are in today (at least, a word that I care to use in public.) But, take a good look. THIS is what a capitalist country gets when it allows a socialist-leaning government; such as we have in the US today, to get involved with the money markets, the financial markets, and/or the stock markets.

Just so you know… this is not going to get a whole lot better anytime soon. Even though I do not have the confidence in our economic system that I once did, I am still confident in the ability of my fellow Americans and I know we can, and we will, pull out of this mess. Of course, we may have to run a few people out of Washington. If nothing else good comes of this financial disaster, that, alone, would be a very good thing, indeed.

The Story That Won’t Go Away.

The Story That Won’t Go Away.
By: J.D. Longstreet

*************************

A prominent Pennsylvania Democrat and attorney, Philip J. Berg, filed a suit in U.S. District Court two months ago claiming Obama is not a natural-born U.S. citizen and therefore not eligible to be a candidate for the office of President of the United States.

Berg says he is 99.99% sure the birth certificate produced by the Obama campaign is a fake and he wants it validated by a court. (After examining the actual document the Annenberg Public Policy Center concluded it is authentic and the state of Hawaii has also affirmed its validity.)

We have touched on this a while back, but, honestly, we just had a problem with anyone being less than candid about something this important, so we shelved it in the “Nah… not likely” file. Well, it simply won’t go away.

Last week the Obama campaign, and the Democrat National Committee, filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit by Berg. Berg is angry. As a democrat himself, he reportedly is upset and believes his party has ignored his requests for proof and is supporting Obama rather that one of their constituents.

World Net Daily has a story on this that is a “must read”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=76933

On the other hand, Obama’s campaign has links on their website at:
http://fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate that claims his citizenship is the real thing. They even have an image of a birth certificate, which shows Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. Berg says that if Obama will present certified copies of the birth certificate he’ll drop his lawsuit.

The US Constitution demands that a candidate for President of the US be a natural born citizen of the US. It does not, however, demand that proof of natural born citizenship, proof of the candidate’s qualifications, be made publicly available.

Berg is reported to have said that he is prepared to take the lawsuit all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.

Now the thing that bothers me about all this is… why even the slightest delay in presenting proof? Why drag your feet on an issue like this. It is so simple just to present the proof and put it to rest? It is the Obama Campaign’s delay and foot-dragging that is keeping the issue alive.

Just for a moment consider this: Suppose Obama really isn’t legally qualified to be President of the US but he wins next month and is sworn in in January. A few weeks, or months, later it is found that he is, in fact, not legally qualified. Do you think we’d have a Constitutional Crisis in this country? As Mrs. Palin would say: “You betcha”!

And the campaign continues.

I ask, again… ain’t politics grand?

Socialist America? Be Prepared!

Preparing for America with Socialist Leadership!

By: J. D. Longstreet
***********************

If you are a resident of America, and you happen to live in a home constructed in the 1950’s and 1960’s, we suggest you begin searching your back yards for what might appear as a ventilation shaft, protruding from the ground, for no apparent reason. If you find one of those, you’ll want to get out the old shovel and start digging. You may be fortunate enough to have one of the thousands of underground bomb shelters built in America during that era.

We suggest you dig down to it, open it, air it out, clean it out, and begin re-stocking it as soon as possible.

If you are one of the unfortunate ones, like me, and you don’t have one of those soon to be needed life saving shelters, you are going to need to go to the search engine of your choice and begin a search for plans for a family, or personal, bomb shelter, or fallout shelter.

You think I’m kidding, right? Not by a long shot! Have you been watching the news lately?I mean, the Mainstream Media is already telling us the Democrat Party is going to win back the Presidency in a month's time, and if they do… you and I are going to need those bomb shelters! Putting the Democrats in charge of the US government is the equivalent of running up the white flag for the Islamofacists! They are just waiting for the Democrats to take over. They know that the Democrats have no earthly idea of what national security means and no hint as to what is required to protect the citizens of the United States, or, the Socialist States of America, soon to be followed by the Islamic States of America!

Nearly 80% of foreign policy experts say they are convinced the US is going to be hit again within the next few years. Do you want to take the chance that the hit will be non-nuclear, or nuclear? Ok, then, start digging!

I’m sitting just 50 miles from a busy East Coast seaport, just 30 miles from the largest US Military Ammo Dump on the East Coast, just 35 miles from a Nuclear Power Plant, and you think I’m not worried??? Each morning as the eastern horizon brightens at sunrise, I do a double take just to be sure it IS the sun!

It’s time to get on the ‘net and find those bomb shelter plans, and check the yellow pages for the dealer nearest you with backhoe rentals, and get to work. There’s not a minute to lose. In a few months, after the Democrats win, a free America will be only a beautiful memory. That shining city on a hill will be darkened and will vanish. Man’s last, best, hope will be gone. The candle of freedom will be outed and the American Dark Ages will descend upon us under the much-anticipated Islamic Global Dominion. The only nation standing between freedom and utter chaos, will be gone… undone from within by a political party bent on power for itself and unwilling to admit it is completely incapable of leading, and protecting, the nation it claims to love.

Prepare, fellow Americans! The edge of night approaches.

The Failure of America's Public School System

The Failure of America’s Public School System
By: J. D. Longstreet
****************************
I was enroute to someplace, or other a few mornings ago, when I had to stop my truck for a school bus to load some reluctant students. As I sat, waiting on those younsters to board, I thought how unfortunate they are. They were being transported, "free", to a "free" public school for a "free" education. Of course, that depends on how, exactly, you define "free". But a "free education" is for another article another time. I am more interested... no... maybe the word should be... "concerned", or even "troubled"... by the quality of the education or children are receiving in our existing school public school system today in America.

For the few short minutes I sat there, I thought back to an article I wrote some years ago about this very thing. Later, when I returned to my office, I rambled through my files until I discovered it, read it through, and saw that nothing much had changed. So, I have decided to post it here today.

This piece was written back in March of 2005. Now that I have two grand kids in the system I speak of here, believe me when I tell you I am very troubled by the quality of the education I am afraid they will recieve. Here is what I wrote back in 2005:

***************************************
The American Public School System Is A Failure And Should Be Trashed!
By: J. D. Longstreet

***********************
The Public Schools system of the US has crashed and burned! No longer are our children the best educated in the world. Now our scholars rank among the less well educated even among a few of the third world countries. This is a shame we have brought upon ourselves by inviting the Federal Government and the Unions into our schools.

One-room schoolhouses turned out scholars of unequaled accomplishment when compared to today’s graduates. A high school education, just 50 years ago, is the equivalent of a college degree today. Our Public School teachers are barely qualified to teach. But, they have a Union to see that they are paid well, whether the can teach or not! Oh, you thought teachers unions were for the welfare of the students??? Surely you jest!

Our local school boards have gorged themselves from the federal trough at the expense of local control of the curriculum and the rules and regulations.

Pupils are not challenged by the courses they study and fall short of goals set by the federal Government. So, the schools are now “teaching the tests”. Indoctrinate the students in the questions and answers on the test in hopes of attaining the sought after number of students passing the tests. A well-rounded education is lost to the efforts to make a good showing on the tests.

Students are forced to remain in school even though they have no interest in what is being taught and are a distraction to that handful of youngsters who really do want to learn.

Self-esteem is the number one course of study. Our students are dumb as fence posts but, by golly, they think highly of themselves! They can’t read their diplomas but they sure do feel good about it!

So what do we do about it?

Take back our schools for a start. Refuse federal money and all the strings that go with it. If we have to teach school, again, in one-room school buildings, then so be it.

Test the teachers. If they have no business in a classroom, see to it that they are removed.

Make school voluntary. If a student does not want to be there, then don’t make them. This will allow those students who do wish an education to get one without the continuous interruptions by the bored kids who’d rather be someplace else.

Discipline? Yes. Expulsion. Period. Expel troublemakers for a few days, a few weeks, and full school year, or forever, depending on the infraction. Make school a serious business again. We owe an environment, suitable for learning, to those students who are there for the purpose of learning and making a better life for themselves.

We can take our schools back. We have to want to do so and we have to be ready to make the sacrifices necessary to insure our children a good education, not the pitiful excuse for an education they are getting now.

One of parent’s primary obligations, as a parent, is to see that their children have a shot at the brass ring in life. The first, and most fundamental, step in that process is a solid education.

Government vouchers were killed by the teachers unions because they rightly understood that the public school system would crumble, and collapse, as parents pulled their children out of those useless institutions and placed them in private schools where they had some say, and some control, over the quality of education their kids were getting.

The public school system is near collapse right now. I don’t think it would be a bad thing, actually. When an institution is so badly damaged, and no longer serves it’s primary purpose, it should be trashed and a new institution begun in its place. Create an Institution to educate our kids.

Parents, we owe our kids that! We owe them a chance to make the best of their talents. We owe them a shot at a good, solid, education. Get them out of the public schools and into a private, or parochial, school where there are qualified teachers who still have an incentive to teach our kids, the will to teach our kids, and the desire to teach our kids.

The public school system in America is a failure. It should be put out of its misery.

We've Been Had... Again!

We've Been Had... Again!
By: J. D. Longstreet
*************************
I have debated whether or not to write this piece and my lesser angels won out!

I think we have been had. I think we were set up. I think we have just had the "October Surprise"... a few days early... whilst it was yet September.

OK. I KNOW. I know. This is going to sound as if it came from the fertile mind of a conspiracy theorist... and Lord knows, I do not wish to be equated with them. But, hey, aren't we all conspiracy theorists to one degree or another? See? Told you so!

Anyway. Something just smells to high heaven about this "financial markets mess" in which we currently find ourselves. I mean something smells... besides the hideous mess itself. Look. We have known this bust was coming. It had to. But, what bothers me is... why did it come just now? Not being a financial wizard, (Of course, from the looks of things, there are very few of those around these days, anyway!) I know next to nothing about how the financial markets work. But... I DO know something about the way the insidious political mind works... and what we have all seen, and been a part of the past few days, just reeks of political setup.

Why, when Obama was falling behind in the polls all across the country, did this "financial bust" suddenly explode upon the scene? I have to tell you, there's something about the timing. Yes, the timing of this whole thing troubles me deeply. And then there was the attempted setup of the Republicans by the Democrats in the House of Representatives. I am convinced the "bailout bill" was set up to go down to defeat by the House Dems. I am convinced the Dem's WANTED the Republicans to kill it so they could then blame the Republicans for the defeat and the mess the financial markets are in. It backfired... to some degree.

Problem is, at least for the Democrats, the American people did NOT want this "bailout bill" to pass into law. The Republicans , by standing firm and voting against it, plus those 40 or so democrats who voted against it, DID abide by the will of the people they represent. The bill went down to defeat.

OK. So where is the Apocalypse? Tuesday morning the markets opened, on an upward surge, and... even though many waited for the crash to come... it didn't. See... we've been told time and again if this bill did not pass there would be horrible, horrible,
consequences. We were told that this bailout must be done immediately (or sooner) or dire, dire, truly awful, things would happen to the economy and, well, just about everything conceivable BAD would occur. Well, the bill died and we're still functioning, and functioning well, as a country.

I have to tell you, dear reader, this whole imbroglio, headed up by the Dem's, resembles what it was... the efforts of a bunch of amateurs at work. Truly, the Dem's are in over their heads... again. The Dem's "took a dive". The Dems "threw the fight". And we all watched. And you know what? It doesn't matter. They don't care that you caught them with their hands in

the cookie jar. They are that arrogant! They just don't care.

Now, here's the thing: In my opinion, the Dems just stole the election and they know it. Why would I say such a thing? Look, those of us who pay attention to such things saw the machinations of the Dem's playing out right before our eyes, and recognised it for what it was. But, ask yourself, how many people were/are paying attention? How many voters will even know, or care, about what the Dems did, and tried to do, in the Congress this week? How many voters will just gobble up the news, fed to them by a left-biased media, and continue to blame the Repubs for the mess and vote against them next month? See? If you are honest with yourselves, you will have to admit the GOP has been suckered and the Dem's landed a "below the belt blow" that has, I believe, taken the Republican Party out of contention for the White House this election cycle.

If I am correct, and I think I am, McCain has lost the election. It's over. And what is worse... the voters will have just opted for socialism rather than capitalism in America.

BAILOUT ALERT!!!

BAILOUT ALERT
By: J. D. Longstreet
******************

OK, here's the deal.

It appears the US Senate is going to try to push through another Bailout Bill tonight. Reports have it that they intend to load it down with lots of goodies including tax cuts of various sorts for the middle class. The idea is to shame the Republicans in the House of Representatives into voting in favor of the Bailout Bill rather than run the risk of being accused of voting against tax cuts for their constituents. It's the way the game is played. But, you and I have a say in all this.

Early, before dawn this morning, I was on the Net sending emails to my Senators and to my Congressman imploring them to vote against the bailout bill in both the Senate and the House. Below is the text of the e-mail I sent to both North Carolina Senators (Both are Republicans):

**********************

October 1st, 2008

Dear Senator Dole/ Senator Burr:

I understand the Bailout Bill is coming back for a vote in the Senate tonight. Senator, I ask that you vote against the Bailout Bill and allow the markets to Self-Correct. It seems to me, Senator, that would come closer to teaching the financial community a lesson they won't some forget... rather than buying their bad paper with the hard earned money of US taxpayers. Again Senator, I urge you to vote against the bailout bill.

Sincerely...............

********************************

And to my Congressman (A Democrat):

********************************

October 1st, 2008

Congressman:

Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for your vote against the Bailout Bill a few days ago in the House. I appreciate your standing tall for your constituents. I mentioned your vote in the local barber shop and got nothing but positive remarks from the men gathered there.

Now, I have to ask you to be prepared to vote against the bailout bill once again. It is my understanding that the Senate is going to formulate another Bailout Bill loaded with tax cuts, and goodies of that sort, in an attempt to shame the GOP Congressmen into voting for their form of the Bailout Bill which they hope to pass through the Senate tonight (October 1st, 2008.)

As a registered Republican, it causes me a great deal of pain to admit that I feel my party's representatives will cave, rather than be seen as denying tax cuts to the middle class, and vote in favor of the Bailout Bill when next it comes up for a vote in your body.

Congressman, I implore you, stand strong against this bill and allow the markets to self-correct. Allow this fiasco to be a lesson to the financial community rather than bailing them out by buying their bad paper. Allow this to be not only a disciplinary action but a "learning experience" for those who handle our money with no risk.

Again, sir, I ask, as your constituent, that you vote against this "Bailout Bill". The country needs strong leadership at this moment, sir, and you are in a position to demonstrate that leadership.

Sincerely,

*********************

So... now... I have put my two cents in. All my representatives in Washington know exactly how I feel about the shenanigans going on up there in the past few days.

You may not share my convictions about this Bailout Bill. That's fine. But I am convinced bailing the culprits out is the wrong thing to do and we should not be using taxpayer money in this manner.

If you are as upset with the way the game is being played in DC, you might want to take some action yourself. A phone call, a fax, or an e-mail. Letters are fine but they may not actually reach the Senator or Congressperson for weeks due to security measures in place. In any event. We have to keep on our toes, and stay sharp, and keep Washington's feet to the fire about this, or we are going to be saddled with a tax burden our grand kid's grand kids will be paying off!

Why Americans Can't Get U.S. Oil ... by Alan Caruba

Why Americans Can’t Get U.S. Oil
By Alan Caruba

*****************************

Aside from the fact the Democrats in Congress are trying to fool Americans into believing they are “lifting” the ban on off-shore exploration and drilling for oil, the opposition to our domestic oil companies by both Democrats and radical environmental groups lies at the heart of why America is so dependent on foreign oil.

At last report, Democrats decided to allow the quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire. That’s not the same as lifting the ban. Moreover, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) is on record saying that, if the Democrats retain control of Congress, restoring the ban “will be a top priority for discussion next year.”

So much for so-called “energy independence.” When Democrats say that, they are talking about wind and solar power, and biofuels, not oil, natural gas, and coal.

I cringe every time I hear the Democrats attack “Big Oil” because, as Michael J. Economides, co-editor of Energy Tribune, points out in the current issue, other than some small companies, there are just three large U.S. oil companies left; Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips. There are three other Western oil companies headquartered outside the U.S.; BP, Shell, and Total. Other than these six, all the others are national or state-controlled.

As Economides points out, “The truth is that even with record profits (but by no means record returns on investment) Big Oil is in a heap of trouble. And as Big Oil goes, so goes America.”

Data from the office of Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ) reveals how Big Green is trying to throttle any hope of Americans benefiting from our own vast oil reserves. In this case, it is 487 leases in the Chukchi Sea Sale 193 in February 2008. Every single one of the leases has been challenged.

Here are the names of those environmental organizations that don’t want you to pay less at the pump: The Center for Biological Diversity, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Sierra Club. There are others, but these are the leaders in the effort to keep oil reserves off northern Alaska from ever being tapped. These are the groups that challenged the entire 2007-2023 five-year national outer continental shelf leasing program!

When the Bureau of Land Management issued leases in New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, the Western Environmental Law Center and the Wild Earth Guardians, preemptively, on July 1, 2008, challenged all 78 leases.

It is instructive that, when President Bush began to talk about lifting the ban on offshore drilling, the global price of oil dropped precipitously. As of this writing, it has not begun to rise and, if U.S. oil companies are permitted to explore and drill, the purpose of those leases, it will not only remain at current levels, but it will drop even more.

It is the Democrat Party and radical environmental organizations that stand between the discovery and provision of new oil and natural gas. It is the Democrat Party that is trying to push through a bogus “energy” bill that would put billions in the hands of those involved in “clean energy” projects that would barely provide the electricity America needs now, nor future needs.

The Chukchi Sea is offshore of northern Alaska, one of several seas that border the Arctic Ocean. The potential of oil in the Arctic is such that Russia is making noise about extending its claims in the Chukchi Sea.

If Congress should ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty, the United States would lose its claim to the vast reserves that potentially exist in the Arctic and you don’t need three guesses to figure out which political party supports ratification. That would be high on the agenda if it remains in Democrat control and if Sen. Obama were to be elected.

As outrageous as the effort is to stop exploration and extraction of oil offshore of Alaska is, the fact remains that environmental groups devote themselves to stopping Americans from having access to any kind of energy source.

Even with the expiration of the offshore ban, you can be sure environmental groups will challenge every single effort to access our national reserves of oil and natural gas, offshore or on. The now classic example is their opposition to drilling for oil in Alaska’s ANWR despite the potential for billions more barrels of oil.

An offshore, floating terminal that would be 20 miles east of Manasquan, New Jersey, has been proposed by Exxon Mobil. Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) tankers would use the terminal to link to the shore with an undersea pipeline. A Calgary-based conglomerate, Excalibur, wants to build an anchorage 15 miles off Asbury Park for a comparable pipeline.

The two projects will be officially proposed to the U.S. Maritime Administration and Coast Guard next year. An environmental group calling itself Clean Ocean Action has mobilized to insure that neither project comes to fruition.

The United States currently has only two offshore LNG facilities, one off Boston, and the other is116 miles off the coast of Louisiana. During hurricane season, the latter is subject to being shut down.

Instead, environmentalists in New Jersey, while opposing LNG terminals, love the idea of putting hundreds of wind turbines offshore despite the fact that this “clean energy” source is unreliable, would require back-up from onshore traditional plants generating electricity, and could only be built because they would be heavily subsidized with taxpayer and energy consumer dollars.

In the comic strip “Pogo”, the main character uttered the now-famous line, “We have met the enemy and they are us.” We have met the enemy and they are the environmental groups that are determined to keep the citizens of the United States from having access to affordable energy, no matter what or who produces it.
