New Orleans Awaits the Arrival of Gustav

New Orleans Awaits The Coming Storm (Revised for 2008 and Gustav)
By: J. D. Longstreet
*********************
(Note from Ed: This article was written back in February of 2006, some 18 months ago. As I write today, Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on New Orleans. The new levees are not nearly complete and, I suspect, not nearly ready to handle what is headed for it.

The coming storm surge will, in all likelihood, wash right over the new and rebuilt dikes (levees). Remember, the storm surge is measured from the tops of the existing waves on the surface and NOT from the ocean floor or seabed. If, for instance, you have a 23 foot storm surge coming at you on top of, oh, say, a sea surface with, say, six foot waves, you are looking at a surge of water 29 feet in height coming right at you. Yes, it is very much like a tsunami. There is not much that CAN handle a wall of water like that! Always remember this: If you are caught in a storm surge while in your home or even worse, while in a vehicle, you will probably not survive.

Another point of interest, for those of us who live in Hurricane Alley, is which quadrant of the storm will strike where we happen to live. The northeast quadrant, better known as the "right front quadrant", is the most dangerous, by far! The "northeast quadrant" is that portion of the storm in which the winds are the strongest, the storm surge is the highest, in fact, nearly everything about the storm is worse on the northeast quadrant, or "Right Front Quadrant". Keep in mind that the right-front quadrant is always determined by the forward movement of the hurricane. Because most hurricanes that strike, here in the Hurricane Alley of the Carolinas, approach us from the south, the right-front quadrant has also been, and is most commonly thought of as... "the northeast quadrant", as well.

For much more valuable information as it pertains to hurricanes go to:

http://www.hurricanetrack.com/ncstormsurge/srginf.html#rfq

I mention all this, concerning the Right Front Quadrant and the storm surge, because, as I survey the plots, on my tracking chart, and those of the NHC, it appears, as I write this, that unless Gustav makes a change in direction, which, of course, it is subject to do at any time, New Orleans may be hit by that dreaded Right Front Quadrant. I'm not a meteorologist so; I am a looooong way from an expert on these matters. I AM suggesting that you seriously follow the advance of this storm and plan accordingly. Of course, our best advice is to get to safety long before you are within the zone of danger.

Our thoughts and our prayers are with you... especially as we folks in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida are watching another storm approach the Southeast Atlantic Coast even now.

New Orleans Awaits Next Storm.
By: J. D. Longstreet
**************************

The 2006 Hurricane season will officially begin June First.New Orleans is still pretty much a shambles. However, efforts are underway to rebuild the city in the same spot, as it was when Katrina stuck last year. They tell me the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome each time. I refer you to the paragraph above.Early season storms have a tendency to build in the eastern and southern Caribbean. They tend to travel west and north. New Orleans is sitting on a bull’s-eye. How many billions has this cost the taxpayers of the US already… with a very good chance that New Orleans will get hit again in a few months? It’s not a question of if, it is a question of when.Yes, New Orleans will be flattened, flooded, and swamped again by a hurricane. And yet they continue to build the doomed city, right back, in the same spot. It’s time for the American taxpayer to say “no more”! If you insist on rebuilding the city in a known storm "entry point", then YOU, the citizens of New Orleans, take responsibility. YOU pay the price. We will not continue to bail you out. No more rushing the resources of a nation to your aid when you (and we) know, good and well, the city of New Orleans is going to get creamed again!Remember the definition of insanity? Well, take a look at New Orleans. When the storms roll through the Gulf this spring, summer, and fall, and they will, I have to wonder if the residents of New Orleans will leave when the next one takes a bead on the mouth of the Mississippi and New Orleans. Frankly, I expect them to do exactly the same thing as they did last year… squat, in place, and wait for somebody to save their collective rear-ends. (If I may insert this bit of updated information... it appears the city has begun measures to remove it's citizens from the coming danger much faster and more efficiently than it did when Katrin approached. THAT is GOOD NEWS!)

This is the mentality of a city, which sees itself as a ward of the US government.New Orleans should not be rebuilt in the same location. Move it or lose it. The federal government should cut off the funds, for New Orleans, when the bills are paid for the last hurricane. No more.As a resident of the Hurricane Alley of the southeast coast, I don’t suck from the federal teat and I don’t expect the government to continue to bail my behind out, either. We Tar Heels have way too much self-esteem than that. You see we understand that response to these emergencies works this way: ME, Family, Friends, City, County, State and finally, the Federal Government… in that order. The Federal Government is NOT, I repeat, NOT, the first responder to a hurricane disaster. (Another insertion, if you will allow me: It DOES appear now that that policy has been changed. FEMA is on scene, and geared up, or gearing up, to act in the capacity of a First responder.)

Soon, I’ll begin checking out my hurricane supplies: canned food, water, batteries and such, in preparation for the storm that is sure to come. Why? Because, I don’t expect anyone to save my behind until I have exhausted all efforts to do so myself. It’s called self-reliance. If you live in a hurricane prone area, you’d better have it, or you’d better leave.

Parents... Teach Your Children to Defend Themselves!

Teach Your Children to Defend Themselves!
By: J. D. Longstreet
****************************
(Parents Should Teach Children to Defend Themselves, not colleges and universities!)

We have raised a couple of generations of “Pansies” here in America.

For the first 12 or 13 years of my life I grew up in a “Mill Village” on what was known in my neck of the woods as a “Mill Hill”. There were street toughs all over the place there. Street gangs, too. I got kicked around a bit and I learned to fight. I got kicked around a bit and I learned to fight, even when the odds were overwhelming and I had no chance of winning. Like the time a street gang of seven older kids decided they were going to beat the tar out of me. I told them there were not enough of them. Now, I have always been terrible at math! Turns out there were more than enough of them to do the job. When the dust settled, and the gang had left, to seek other prey, I was unable to even stand and had to crawl away. But... I learned. I learned how to street fight. But mostly, I learned you are never as open to danger as you are when you flee. Always face your enemy.

Shakespeare wrote in Julius Caesar: "Cowards die many times before their deaths. The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the things I yet have seen and heard, it seems most strange, that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come will it sill come." It is a truism I carry with me every day.

By the time I got into High School we had bought a place out in the countryside and began a very small family farm. My Dad was raised as a farmer so that was where he wanted to be.

There is nothing that comes close to raising a kid in the country. I loved it! I roamed the fields and woods with my dog and my 12-gauge, model 37, Winchester shotgun with a 30-inch barrel and a full choke. It is a devastating weapon. I killed rabbits and squirrels and anything my family would and could eat. I built and set rabbit boxes (traps), which I “looked” every morning before school, and if there was a rabbit in it, I yanked it out and dispatched it with a “rabbit chop” to the back of the neck, and then skinned it… Mom cooked it… and we ate it.

We raised our own meat. In January in the 1950’s it was cold in the foothills of South Carolina… I mean the kind of cold where the moisture in the red clay freezes and the ice crystals burst the surface of the earth open and spew it inside out so that the fresh earth is turned skyward and you can see sunlight reflecting off its icy contents… and that was hog killing time.

It is a bloody business, hog killing. But I was roused, with the rest of the family, well before dawn, and the daylong chore of killing the hogs began. Shooting them, hanging them up, hind feet first, (to allow the blood to drain from their bodies), then pouring scaling water over the carcasses so the course, bristly, hair could be scraped off was all a part of the slaughtering process. Then, the gutting of the animal began. Nothing was wasted. We ate very nearly everything.

My mother was not a healthy woman, so I helped with the household chores when I was directed to do so. That meant, from time to time, I had to go out to the chicken pen, grab a hen or a rooster, (Usually a hen past her prime for laying.) and kill it by either wringing it’s neck, or chopping it’s head off with an axe. Then I cleaned it. That meant plucking the feathers, lighting something on fire, usually a sheet of newspaper, or a brown paper bag, (known as a “poke” back where I come from) and the pinfeathers were singed off with the flames. Finally, I gutted it, and cut it up, ready to go into the frying pan.

Here’s the point: I was raised to be used to death and dying. I was raised to be ready to get my hands dirty, and bloody, if necessary. You could not be squeamish and survive for very long in the country life. The country life would, in those days, at least, toughen a young man up to the practicalities of life.

As a pre-teen, my dad often told me: “Don’t you start a fight, but I expect you to damn well finish it!”

The US Army taught me numerous ways to take a life and numerous ways to preserve my own and that of my buddies.

As a police officer I saw a lot of death and useless waste of life and limb. As a member of a Rescue Unit, on an ambulance, I picked up bodies, in pieces, more than once. One night, in particular, I had to search until I found a victim’s head, in a “broom straw” field, and pick it up by the hair and place it on the gurney alongside the rest of the crumbled body of what had been, a few minutes prior, a vibrant young man.

Through out all this I never had to see a shrink or a grief counselor. Nobody even considered such a thing. I did what I did because it needed doing and, as it happened, I was the one Fate called upon. I didn’t question it. It is the way of things. Most importantly, it taught me to rely on myself… first, period.

Now here’s what I am trying to say: We have sheltered our kids for the past two generations, at least, until they do not know how to respond to danger… short of falling to the ground and assuming the fetal position! It should not be necessary for schools, any schools, to “train” young men and young women how to protect themselves, and those around him or her. It should come as, well, instinct honed by parental training. . And the instinct for self-preservation IS there… but we have buried it under load upon load of limp-wristed “Conflict Resolution” mumbo jumbo. You can’t have it both ways. Either a human being is ready to do whatever is necessary to protect himself, and his associates and loved ones, or… he will be putting his life on the line every time he ventures into public…period.

Rely upon police, upon the civil authorities, you say? Look, police are allowed only to react in our society. They cannot act until a law has been broken, or to put it another way, until you have been assaulted you are on your own!

Man is by nature a predator. Nature built us, and wired us, to hunt other animals. She didn’t place our eyes on the sides of our heads as she did with those we hunt; she placed our eyes in the front of our heads for the pursuit and to focus in on the kill.

We are defying nature when we teach our children to cower when trouble is near. Man has not survived from the days of living in caves by cowering in the face of danger. But, somehow, we are expected to do that these days when the world is every bit as dangerous as it was when our ancestors wore the skins of animals and pursued other animals, for miles, until they ran them down and killed them.

If we are to “fix” the inability of our young people to provide for their own safety, parents are going to have to, once again, train their children how to defend themselves. I mean… parents are going to have to teach their children it is OK to fight to protect yourself, your family, and/or your associates. The philosophy of “Nothing is Worth Fighting For” has got to be tossed overboard because it is getting young Americans and, yes, older Americans as well, killed! Children should be trained in how to use firearms and in firearm safety. When taught properly it is one and the same thing. (I was shooting at the age of six. I am still a lousy shot, but I can put a lot of lead down range!)

We have tried the philosophy of “Nothing is Worth Fighting For” and… as some of us screamed from the rooftops all along, it doesn’t work! Talking to your enemy or assailant may be OK, but you have to be ready to defend yourself. Sometimes force must be used first just to get your opponent’s attention.

It is a sad commentary on life in the US when we have to even consider whether or not to allow schools, colleges, and universities to teach our kids how to defend themselves. Once again, we have to ask: Where are the parents in all this?

Some Speeches are Better Than Others ... by Alan Caruba

Some Speeches are Better Than Others
By Alan Caruba

***************************
Some speeches are better than others. Sen. Barack Obama knows how to deliver a speech, but his acceptance speech was familiar stuff to anyone who has been listening to politicians as long as I have. Permit me a bit of cynicism because sometimes it allows you to separate the wheat from the chaff.

It is a bit of luck that Barack Obama’s acceptance speech was given on the forty-fifth anniversary of Dr. King’s famed “I’ve got a dream” speech. That speech brought people together to build a better America, to fulfill its promise of equality.

I not only lived through the Civil Rights era, but I actually met Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was brief, but memorable for me. Dr. King could deliver an inspirational sermon or speech. I often wonder if the civil rights movement would have been as successful if there had not been a Dr. King to lead it. Things might have turned out differently for Barack Obama.

I thought it interesting that Barack Obama did not hew that closely to Dr. King’s oratorical style in his acceptance speech, but then it occurred to me that he is striving to get people to believe he is just like you and I. He is not.

He is the child of an imperfect mother who twice married Muslim men and whose child was literally rescued by two extraordinary grandparents. He is not like you or I.

He is half black and half white. He is not like you or I.

His intellect opened doors to elite universities, earned scholarships. He is not like you or I.

He has never served in the military, nor has he ever held a job that did not require a suit and tie. He is not like a lot of Americans.

He was imbued from an early age with the sophistry of Marxism that seeks to impose a government that promises all things to all people from cradle to grave and delivers only a soul-killing slavery to the state.

His speech had a central theme and it was jobs. In Obama’s world most Americans are out of work. They are not.

In Obama’s world, corporations are the enemy, not the engine of the economy.

In Obama’s world, the nation can free itself in ten years from its dependence on oil. No nation on Earth can do that. And $150 billion of your money and mine to the charlatans offering wind and solar power will not produce much more than the one percent of electricity these limited sources of energy currently represent.

What America needs is more drilling for oil for our transportation needs, more coal-fired and nuclear plants for the electricity we require, and more natural gas for its many benefits.

The other theme of his speech was that the last eight years of the Bush administration were a failure. Is it a failure that we have not been attacked since 9/11? Is it a failure that unemployment remains at a bare five percent, among the lowest in generations? Is a $14 trillion economy a failure?

Never mind. Obama is not addressing facts. He is in the business of generating promises like the one to reduce taxes for 95% of working families. That is not going to happen.

He promises “a world class education” for every child, but Teddy Kennedy’s failed “No Child Left Behind Act” is guaranteeing a failed education for the nation’s children. He promises higher wages for already well-paid and pensioned teachers despite the fact they are turning out students who cannot spell, cannot do arithmetic, and have no idea of America’s real history.

Promises are what politicians make. Speeches are what politicians give, but Barack Obama is no Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For one thing, Dr. King was a registered Republican.

Some speeches are better than others. I give this one a C.

Joe Biden, The Expert on Iran?

Joe Biden, the Expert on Iran?
By: J. D. Longstreet
**************************

We are coming to understand why the Iranians would be more than pleased with Joe Biden as the Vice President of the United States.

Michael Rubin, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and a senior lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School, has written an article titled: "Biden's Blink on Iran" which was published by the Washington Post. In the article Rubin says: "As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Biden is well versed in policy debates and carefully choreographed trips. But his record on the Islamic Republic of Iran -- perhaps the chief national security threat facing the next president -- suggests a persistent and dangerous judgment deficit".

Oh, my! This sounds serious! I assure you... it is. You must read Rubin's article. You'll find it here:

Obama signals that he believes Foreign Affairs is extremely important in his run for the Oval office. Then he makes the mistake of choosing Biden as his running mate.

We mentioned Iran... didn't we? Well, on Iran... Biden wants to talk... and talk... and talk... a la Jimmy Carter. Remember him? (I try very hard not to!) Biden seems to be saying that the "nuclearization" of Iran is unacceptable, and yet when "going to war" is mentioned as a possibility, to thwart the Iranian's obvious drive for "The Bomb", he immediately cries foul (or, "time out") and calls for sanctions. But... what if sanctions fail? Then what does he do? He seems ready to accept that which he has already referred to as... unacceptable! See, this is what the elite democrats refer to as "nuance". We have another word(s) for it down South! Bovine Scatology!

The good Senator, from Delaware, is about as inconsistent as they come. Israel is already upset with him because they see him as unpredictable. I must tell you... I think Israel has it about right!

In a piece titled: "What Would Biden's Middle East Policy Look Like?" over at "Slate", author Shmuel Rosner, apparently thinks Joe Biden is an erratic pragmatist. You will find his commentary here:

So, why did we choose Biden's views on foreign policy as it relates to Iran? It’s simple, really. No matter who the next President is, Iran is a menace LOOMING HUGE on the horizon. The US is going to have to deal with Iran, at some point, in the very near future. It matters greatly (and even now, I am understating the danger) who the American voters place in the position to decide how the US will act, or react, toward Iran.

There are people concerned about Biden's ability to make the right decisions about Iran, and especially Iran's intentions toward Israel. The Executive Director of the Republican Jewish Coalition (The RJC), Matt Brooks, released the following statement a few days ago:

“With the selection of Senator Joe Biden as Senator Obama’s vice president, the Democrat’s ticket has now become an even greater gamble for the Jewish community. Throughout his career, Senator Biden has consistently been wrong on Iran and his voting record on Israel has been inconsistent. Like Obama, Biden fundamentally misunderstands the threat posed by an Iran determined to obtain nuclear weapons. Biden has continuously demonstrated poor judgment on Iran. He has voted against significant legislation that would pressure Iran to stop pursuing nuclear weapons. Biden has failed to recognize the serious threat that Iran poses to Israel and the US and its allies in the Middle East,” said RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks.

Mr. Brooks continues: "In 1998, Sen. Biden was one of only four senators to vote against the Iran Missile Proliferation Sanctions Act, a bill that punished foreign companies or other entities that sent Iran sensitive missile technology or expertise. Biden was one of the few senators to oppose the bipartisan 2007 Kyl-Lieberman Amendment labeling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. In a December 2007 debate, Biden said “Iran is not a nuclear threat to the United States of America.” On MSNBC’s “Hardball,” Biden said he “never believed” Iran had a weapon system under production."

Mr. Brooks went on to say: “The Jewish community was already gravely concerned with Senator Obama’s naive understanding of the Iranian threat. An Obama-Biden ticket has proven that it is ill-equipped to deal with this threat. By selecting Senator Biden to join his ticket, voting for Senator Obama has now become an even greater risk.” You'll find the entire article here:

Mr. Biden, it would seem, is going to have some difficulty convincing voters of his expertise in Middle Eastern affairs and is certainly leaving open, for questioning, whether he has the qualifications to service as the Vice President of the US, an office that holds a tremendous amount of "sway" over the Foreign Policy of the US.

Mr. Biden has served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for over twenty-five years, including during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War. He has been either the ranking member, or the chairman of the committee, for over a decade, now. Could it be that he has been using his position to gain even higher office? I mean, career politicians do it all the time. Certainly, if that were true, it still would not disqualify him for consideration as Vice President of the US, now would it? Of course not! But, having said that, we hasten to add that claiming some sort of expert status on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy, especially in the Middle East, is a difficult thing, indeed, these days, given the state of, shall we say... "flux"... in which that region finds itself practically every hour. Mr. Biden would do well to carefully measure his words and his "pronouncements" (even more so) now that he is being considered, by the American people, for a "government position” that he absolutely must convince us he is prepared for.

The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy ... by alan Caruba

The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy
By Alan Caruba

************************

As a dues-paying member of Hillary Clinton’s Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, it came as a revelation of sorts to learn about the parallel universe in which a Vast Left Wing Conspiracy exists. Within it, liberals do endless battle with one another for control of the Democrat Party.

Ron Arnold’s book, “Freezing in the Dark: Money, Power, Politics and The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy”, is not light reading. This heavily researched and documented narrative reveals all the major players of the liberal universe and how these renamed “progressives” interact through networks of wealthy foundations, advocacy groups, think tanks, and leftist media.

“Freezing” will particularly please policy wonks, but it is also a brilliant romp through the jungle of leftist politics. If you have the stamina to get into and through it, you will understand what drives the Left. To get you started, I will quote Winston Churchill who defined Socialism as “a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

As I reached the end of “Freezing”, I had a random thought about the 2008 election and its outcome. Simply put, Democrats who have been driven insane by the very existence of George W. Bush cannot run against him. In the funhouse of modern politics, the Republican they must defeat is more like them than not. John McCain is Democrat Light. One of his best pals is Joe Lieberman who ran as the vice president nominee with Al Gore!

Emerging swiftly from the text is the way the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Act transformed how politics was to be funded. Little wonder that Sen. Obama abandoned his pledge to work within the constraints of federal campaign funding in favor of raising gobs of money from the Internet and the traditional supporters of anything and anyone labeled liberal, progressive. Never mind that the Communist Party USA also supports Obama. It must surely just be a coincidence.

McCain-Feingold banned “soft money” donations, the large and unlimited contributions from individuals, unions, and corporations to political parties. This “reform” required Democrats to create a networking restructure with the many satellite groups competing to use the party to get the only reform they ever wanted, the trashing of the U.S. Constitution.

It’s useful to remember that the Constitution exists to limit the power of the federal government and, via the Bill of Rights, those of the States to the extent that individual liberties are protected. This is why the liberalism discredited by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s has returned as a Halloween mask labeled “progressive.”

Progressives, however, come in many colors of red. There are, as Arnold notes, social, labor, anti-globalization, anti-corporate, anti-capitalist, environmental, post-national who like Sen. Obama see themselves as citizens of the world, and campaign finance reform progressives who think that the current electoral system is a threat to democracy, mostly one suspects because it keeps defeating progressives.

As Arnold reveals, one can hardly call liberals or progressives a movement. “It was more like a mental hospital without doctors or nurses.” They don’t have a cohesive culture, have no coherent ideology, but are “just quarrelsome factions with loads of issues.”

What they all seemed to have, however, was gobs and gobs of money from leftist foundations and millionaires who wanted to change the world by supporting one or more of the myriad of issues they embrace as their penance for being successful, thanks to capitalism.

The ultimate symbol of this is the billionaire George Soros. As Arnold points out, “The Soros mishmash of leftist causes at home ranged from financing the anti-gun lobby to abolishing capital punishment; from anti-Israel activism to promoting abortion rights; from feminism, population control, and gay liberation to anti-corporate campaigns, radical theories of education, and replacing national sovereignty with global institutions.”

Compare this with conservative values that include “hard work, duty and obligation, self-reliance, high levels of national pride, pro-life values, rejection of homosexuality, belief in the importance of religion and God in one’s life, and that children should learn respect and obedience.”

Essential to the compact that the American government makes with citizens is the understanding that if you work hard and stay out of trouble with the law, it will leave you alone!

The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy believes that your life must be guided from birth to death by the government, its prohibitions, and its demands, a society in which everything not mandated by law is prohibited.

To achieve this, progressives come at voters from all directions, conjuring up hoaxes like global warming, promises of often imaginary “clean” energy, the demand to end “urban sprawl”, the “right” of same-sex couples to marry, support for the United Nations, and endless charges of racism, among other charades to gain control of the federal government and its judiciary system in order to implement a top-down control of your life.

“Freezing in the Dark” is a roadmap to understand why we are assailed daily with the insanity of liberalism, an utterly failed system that depends on coercion while seeking to devalue the central principles of our constitutional system, from private property to individual merit and, yes, the promotion of wealth as a good thing.

Eligibility to Be President of the US

It is just now coming to the fore and I suspect if will soon hit the mainstream media which, as we all know by now, trails behind the “New” media by anywhere from several days to several months!

Why do we bring this up now? Well, let us see what has happened and what is happening:

Currently, a prominent Democrat is suing Obama in a Philadelphia Federal Court. The title of the piece at Americas Right is: “Obama sued in Philadelphia federal Court on grounds he is constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency”. Philip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. (From Americas Right.com) As you can plainly see, Mr. Berg isn’t a lightweight! You’ll find the story here:

http://www.americasright.com/2008/08/obama-sued-in-philadelphia-federal.html

Sounds bad, right? Well, not so fast! Over at World Net Daily, they have another take on this whole mess. The article is entitled: “Democrat sues Sen. Obama over fraudulent candidacy”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/?pageId=73214

We also found an article from June ’08 at The Swamp, which says flatly that Yes, Obama is a citizen of the US. You’ll find it here:

www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/06/is_barack_obama_a_us_citizen_y.html

So what difference does all this make? Not much, really. I just find it interesting that we get so caught up in this sort of thing. I think it all derives from our never-ending Presidential campaigns, instituted, if memory serves, by the Clintons. It seems we have had one long, never-ending, (I said that already, didn’t I?) campaign for the office of President since Bill Clinton set foot on the carpet of the Oval office… and I, for one, am tired of it.

The Constitution of the Confederate States of America limited a President to one six year term, period. I could support amending the US Constitution to one term for the President… not to exceed six years… and that would be for a lifetime… no coming back, after a few years out of office, and be eligible to run again.

So let’s cut through all the smoke and mirrors stuff and see what the Constitution actually says about the qualifications to be President of the US:

Article II says: - Article II "The Executive Branch…”No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.”…

That’s it! That’s all there is to it. So… can we dispense with all the diversions and get this election over with? I am sooooo ready for it to end!

It is Obama and (O)Biden! The Best They Could Do?

It is Obama and Obiden!
Is Biden Obama’s Dan Quayle?

By: J. D. Longstreet

***********************************
Of all the bad Choices Obama could have made for a vice-presidential running mate, as we expected, he made the worst choice. Joe Biden is a Northeastern Liberal. So now the Democrat ticket has a Chicago liberal and a Northeastern liberal. I suppose that is what passes for “balance” on a democrat ticket… do you suppose? The support Obama had in the Southland, and much of the West, is certainly now in question. As a Southerner, I can tell you it did not help Obama’s chances down here and may very well hurt him, badly.

Oh, it’s not just the South, it’s all over. Joe Biden, is a caricature of the “Blow-Hard”, Wind-Bag” Senator, who has a tremendous amount of trouble making sure his brain is engaged before he puts his mouth in gear. Down South that is known, in some circles, as a “Smart-Mouthed Yankee”.

Biden strikes Southerners as the fast talking, used car salesman type, with the flashy grin, slicked back hair, always pushing to close the deal for his car, while telling you, all the while, what a useless piece of junk you are trying to palm off on him in the trade. You know the type.

But what was the team, searching for Obama’s running mate, supposed to do? They had the job of trying to find someone less experienced than Obama, which, alone, was a near impossible task, or, unable to do that, someone who would not expose Obama’s façade as the Messiah, the “Anointed One”. Seems to me, they were looking for a court jester instead of a running mate. And they found it in Biden. As time passes, Biden may very well turn out to be Obama’s Dan Quayle!

Obama, and his team, chose the one candidate the GOP has enough material on, already on file, to write volumes about his liberal record, his less than sterling self-control in debates, and his short-fused temper. Biden’s terminal case of “foot-in-mouth disease” has already supplied the McCain camp with tons of material, some of which was used in a campaign commercial shortly after Obama made the public announcement of his choice of Biden. McCain’s forces did not have to waste time vetting Mr. Biden. He has already been vetted several times over. His record is there for the entire world to see, such as this piece from the Telegraph.co.uk:
“Joe Biden plagiarised Neil Kinnock speech”
Here’s the link:

http://www.journalisted.com/article?id=774001

Well, that WAS a little over 20 years ago. But who is counting? Huh? OK… SOME things you just don’t forget and that is one of them.

Here’s another:

“The ONE” chooses his Two: Biden Kinnock Copycat Windbag is VP Candidate

Here’s the link:

http://www.order-order.com/2008/08/one-chooses-his-two-biden-kinnock.html

Joe Biden has been in the US Senate since the Nixon Administration… so there is a very long record to dig through.

If you are REALLY intrigued, you can take the Joe Biden quiz. You’ll find here:

http://www.thebidenquiz.com/

Take a look a the political positions of Joe Biden at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_positions_of_Joe_Biden

One of Biden’s less than popular positions, among southerners especially, is his stand on Gun Control: Biden was given an "F" by the National Rifle Association (NRA) showing a pro-gun control voting record. He supports reinstating the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and voted against prohibition of lawsuits against gun manufacturers. He has voted to ban assault rifles and to end the "gun show loophole", stating that no one should be able to walk into a gun show and buy a gun more easily than they could at a normal store. (From: Wikipedia)

On immigration… Biden’s position is just as bad:

Biden supported the 2007 Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill. He supports guest-worker visas, and the building of a wall along the border. He voted to provide Social Security to illegal immigrants and supports a path to citizenship.(From Wikipedia)

On LGBT Issues: Biden voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act and against the Federal Marriage Amendment. He supports states rights to establish civil unions and favors adding sexual orientation to the criteria for a hate crime.

And, of course, there is Biden’s position on abortion:

He’s for it! Biden votes consistently with the pro-choice forces on most matters, and is a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade.

OK, so these are just highlights. It gets better.

There is already talk among the “great unwashed” (Actually some insiders are worried about this, too.) that Obama has so little experience that should he, somehow, pull out a win, he will not be the “President-in-Fact”, only the “Front Man.” Those promoting this theory are sayimg that Joe Biden will be the REAL President. As I’m sure you know, this is a position the Left is so used to claming for Dick Cheney, Vice-President in the Bush Administration. Some things have a way of coming back to bite you!

I usually tune out political commercials, having made so many myself, and listened to and watched so many over my nearly three decades in the broadcasting industry. But, I have to tell you, I’m going watch the McCain commercials from here on out. Obama and Obiden have handed the Republicans tons of material for really hard-hitting and effective commercials. Of COURSE, they will be pointed to as “Negative” ads! But, the fact is, that by far, so-called negative ads are true and no matter what anyone tries to tell you… they do work in favor of the candidate using them.

Now, if the McCain camp has any savvy at all they will be very careful to choose a pro-life candidate, a solid conservative, for the GOP vice-presidential candidate. That will ease some of the pain of conservatives already holding their noses to vote for McCain.

Much will be made over “the bounce” Obama will get from the Democratic Convention this week. And Obama WILL get a bounce. But, conservatives, fear not, it is usually short lived.

There is no doubt about it. The next nearly two and a half months will be a slug-fest.

It has not sipped the notice of Conservatives that no matter how this election turns out, the GOP has been changed forever. Conservatives have been effectively shut-out. In this scribe’s opinion, it is now up to political conservatives in America to pull out of the GOP and form their own party, the CONSERVATIVE PARTY, and stand ready to challenge BOTH the GOP and the Democrats in 2012.

Conservative Christian Republicans

This article first ran on INSIGHT on Freedom at www.csadispatch.blogspot.com/ in June of 2007.

Conservative Christian Republicans
By: J. D. Longstreet
****************************

There seems to be some question as to the way Conservative Christian Republicans “stay away from the polls” when unacceptable candidates are on the ballot. At least one of the readers of this blog suggested that action might be un-Republican.

The short answer is this: We don’t care!

Let me try and explain the Conservative Christian Republicans view on voting. To get a basic understanding of the Conservative Christian Republican’s view of the world you must understand our priorities. They are in this order: God, Family, and then, Country.

Understand also, we feel it is sinful to vote for a candidate who does not share these priorities.

You begin to see where we are coming from.

Look, we believe that voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil and we won’t do it. We answer ultimately to a much higher power and we recognize that and try our best to act accordingly. We do not always succeed, actually we don’t succeed most of the time, but we are bound to continue trying.

If the Republican Party nominates a candidate we see as unqualified, by our standards, we will not go to the polls and support that candidate. The RNC knows this. It is no secret. The GOP has understood where our ultimate allegiance lies since the Conservative Christians began their migration away from the Democratic Party when it adopted so much of the Socialist/Marxist platform. There is something of a compact between Conservative Christian Republicans and the RNC. We will support the Republican Party as long as it toes the line. The minute it steps away from the line… we are gone.

Remember where our allegiance lies. We do. And, we know that, in the end, we have to give an accounting of the time we spend here on this earth. That is far more important to us than voting to ensure the Republican Party wins an election.

I remain, just another Pharisee,

Will America Survive Without Her Families?

Will America Survive Without Her Families?
By J. D. Longstreet

***************************
What has happened to the American family? It doesn’t exist, anymore. Oh, we have something we like to call "family", often times living beneath the same roof, but it’s not family… not in the true sense of the word.

America has redefined Family until we have defined it out of existence. I think that was intentional. Our socialist brothers and sisters, on the left, want to control this country and to do that they must destroy the basic building blocks of this republic and reassemble those blocks to suit themselves. The single most important building block of any nation is her families. Destroy that and you can easily lay claim to a nation’s soul. And that is exactly what has happened.

I saw, a short time ago in the press, that families with unmarried parents now out number families with married parents in America. In the first place, the group of people with unmarried parents, at its head, is NOT a family... in the true sense of the word. So the entire report was based upon the flawed assumption that a family is a group of people with the authority figure either married or unmarried. That is not the classic family. That is a mob.

Americans, look around you and consider that we have a society rotten at its core. The core of civilization is the family and when that core does not exist, or is mortally wounded, as ours in America is, then a country’s entire society is in peril. If there is any doubt that America’s society is in danger, pick up any newspaper, turn on any TV news channel, or just stand still for a moment and look around you.

We have failed, as a people, to protect our families. We have, through social programs, and such, made it much easier to dissolve the family and to create something acceptable to the “socialist shadow government”, working behind the scenes in America, in order to provide the necessities for that group, without actually working for it, nor providing the guidance of a nuclear family. The children coming out of such a "mock-up" of a family have no way of knowing that their experience was anything less than normal and they create their own… and in so doing… perpetuate the rot at our core. Here in America we have an entire underclass, and entire segment of American society, who are wards of the US government.

We have so may children, and grown young people, now, who were “raised by a village”, and not a family, that they lack those “familial ties” that anchor all humanity to the core of a family and that core is… love for one another. It isn’t there... and they are empty. Their souls are just barely attached to their bodies.

We look around us in awe, and wonder, when some child, or young adult, armed to the teeth, walks into a school and begins to pump round after round into innocent children. We gaze at the vivid stories on TV news of heinous murders committed by a young person who looks just like the boy, or girl, living down the street from us. And… we still don’t get it. It’s OUR fault. We destroyed the American family. Why? … Because… it was expedient. A tight nit family is nearly impossible to manipulate. But as with any organization, break it apart… and you can destroy it, piece by piece, and that is what we have done.

Our children are sent to nurseries, as sucklings, because the mother must report for work at the end of the allotted family leave period. The children don’t see their parents, save for short periods in the morning, as they are prepared for daycare, in the evenings as they are prepared for bed, and on the weekend when parents are worn out from their daily jobs and have no time to spend with them.

Then those same children are sent off, at the age of six, to the public school system run by a government intent on molding their minds in the way it would have them go… and they spend 12 years in that system. The tie with their parents remains about the same, but becomes even more tenuous as the years speed by. Then… there is college. And there the finished product is rolled out. The liberalities of the college instructors and professors further mold those young minds into automatons of the socialist agenda. The process is now complete and the product is a near heartless, soulless, individual who believes his upbringing was NORMAL!!!

We have at least two generations of these automatons walking among us. They are now in positions of power in our government, in our universities, in our public schools, and in our churches… and America is the worse for it.

That bright shinning city on a hill has been corrupted and has become dull and all it’s luster is gone. No longer does it stand as a shining beacon to the remainder of mankind as the promise of a nation, which seeks after God and liberty for its people.

It is said that all great nations commit suicide. Consider the Greeks and the Romans, from which America drew so much in founding this republic. Those great civilizations have been tossed into the dustbin of history. Soon, America will join them.

When a society defines its families… it defines itself. The American family has been ruled, for all intents and purposes, irrelevant. We no longer even understand what a family is. The family is the bedrock upon which the pillars of this great society stand. That bedrock has crumbled and our society is showing the effects.

It is said that change is inevitable. That may be, but change can be guided and channeled in the direction a society wants to travel. In America’s case, we channeled change in the wrong direction. We replaced America’s reliance upon God with reliance upon the Federal Government. We replaced the Ten Commandments with a code of laws developed by man and loosely based on the Ten Commandments, but… we deny even that. We replaced God in our public schools with school councilors, and policemen, and metal detectors… and murder. Our religion has gone weak in the knees with many of America’s mainline churches, saying openly, that the scriptures, which have served us for well over 2000 years, are no longer relevant, that God doesn’t actually matter anymore. The plain truth is, dear reader, we have condemned ourselves.

Can we turn it around? I don’t think so. America is racing toward the apocalypse, the final hour when all will be irrelevant. Nothing will matter any longer. “The End” will have been writ large across the pages of history and America will be but a footnote.

The scriptures tell us that God’s Spirit will not always strive with man. At some point God will pull back that protecting hand, that guiding hand, that gracious hand.

America has grown fat and arrogant and, like the builders of the tower of Babel, we have taken it upon ourselves to “be like God”. And, frankly… we’re not big enough.

Man’s instructions were simply enough. A man and woman should cling to one another and be fruitful and multiply... and create families. Children were admonished to honor their fathers and mothers. The parents, likewise, were admonished to not provoke their children to anger. In other words… love one another. Love was the basic building block of the family and the family was the basic building block of man’s society. Now, here in America, we have destroyed the family. Our foundation is gone, our anchor is gone, and we are adrift, soon to slip beneath the waves… as history sails on… without America.

Putin Threathens America? ... by J. D. Longstreet

Bristling at Being Threatened by Putin
By: J. D. Longstreet

*******************************

The US has just been challenged to a duel. Hey, I’m a Southerner! I’m a throwback to the days of defending one’s honor on the field of honor by a duel! Yep, I’m a hopeless romantic, I suppose.

That doesn’t change the fact that Putin is threatening us through Poland. Secretary of State Rice can “dismiss” Putin’s threat if she dares, and apparently she does dare, but I have to tell you, it will be at our peril and the peril of the good people of Poland if we do. If Putin says he will attack Poland… Putin WILL attack Poland. (See: Georgia!) To her credit, Dr, Rice did say this: “When you threaten Poland, you perhaps forget that it is not 1988," Rice said. "It's 2008 and the United States has a ... firm treaty guarantee to defend Poland's territory as if it was the territory of the United States. So it's probably not wise to throw these threats around."

Look, the deal to place Interceptor missiles in Poland is a done deal. It is going to happen. If Putin sends troops into Poland by land or by air, there will be hell to pay. If Russian air forces, missiles, or ground assault troops, take the lives of American troops and/or American civilian support personal, the proverbial “ship will hit the sand”! The US Military WILL respond. Most likely, the Russian airbases, from which the attacking Russian aircraft took off for their raid on Poland, will cease to exist… in short order.

Somehow, the world has come to believe the US military is fighting at it’s maximum in the Middle East today. That is far from being true. We have military assets that have not been committed to battle in the Middle East and are standing by for such an eventuality as an attack by, oh, say… Russia. Our enemies should not believe all they read, hear, and see in our leftist mainstream media today. The US Military is, even at it’s weakest, a force to be reckoned with. The Russian military may be a mile wide, but look past the width and you will quickly see it is only an inch deep.

I sincerely hope the Administration is taking Putin seriously. I happen to think that Putin WILL carry out his threat. It may come in a way we least expect, but, rest assured Mr. Putin does not make idle threats.

Poland is a member of NATO. If there is indeed a Russian strike on Poland, according to the NATO compact, it will be considered an attack on all the nations of NATO and ALL the Nations of NATO will respond with Military attacks on Russia. I have an idea that US subs are making their way to stations off Russia even as I write this and they are “loaded for bear” with everything from cruise missiles to the big boys, the boomers, the nuclear ballistic missiles. Those black bat-wing bombers are ready, at a moment’s notice, to take to the skies in retaliation.

Putin has been stretching the envelope recently, anyway. It is as though he is deliberately tweaking the nose of the US. Rumors of Russian nuclear bomber refueling bases in Cuba, more in Venezuela, and probing our air defenses, and Great Britain’s, as well, would indicate that he is up to something.

If it sounds scary, that’s because it is! If this “dust-up” with Russia causes you concern, it should. I would expect, and I would hope, any US strike against Russia would be limited to those Russian assets having made the raid on Poland. After that, the next step by the US would be determined by Putin’s reaction.

These are, indeed, perilous times. It is not a stretch to say we could be on the threshold of a war with Russia. An American of my generation can hardly forget it was Germany’s attack on none other than Poland that kicked off The Second World War. I remember, also that American military forces, totaling some 8,000 US troops, landed, once before in Russia, (in August of 1918) in defense of the 40,000 man strong military force of Czechoslovakia trapped by Russian forces as they tried to make their way to the “Western Front”. It is said that history repeats itself. Note, if you will, that… as it happens… Putin is currently exorcised about (Who else?) Czechoslovakia becoming one of the recipients, or “hosts”, of our defensive missile shield. US troops finally left Russia, in April of 1920. I think it is safe to say US forces are in no hurry to return to Russia.

Nevertheless, one of the costs of freedom is “eternal vigilance”… that is simply another way of saying… we cannot take our eyes off Putin’s Russia.

The Mystery of Obama

The Mysterious Mr. Obama
By: J. D. Longstreet
****************************

There is simply no escaping Obama’s ties to socialists and his socialist tendencies, in the past, and even today, as he continues to support socialist programs. As much as his camp would like to divert the American voter’s attention away from Obama’s socialism, it isn’t working. It’s like the proverbial elephant in the room. It cannot be ignored. Nor should it be.

When you look at Obama’s past, his voting record, his associates, (those who have served Obama as advisors… and… some say mentors.) you quickly come to see that Obama’s brand of politics is much farther to the left than most of the arch liberal Democrats with which he shares his political party, the Democratic Party.

The very first warning sign of Obama’s socialism is his absolute belief in “Redistribution of the Wealth”. That is PURE socialism. He speaks of “economic Justice”. That, too, is PURE socialism. In layman’s language “Economic Justice” is action by the government punishing those who have worked hard and earned their money, and rewarding those who haven’t. How would he do that? By taking the hard earned money of the, shall we say, “more fortunate”, and giving it to the, again, shall we say, “less fortunate”. He would do this by forcing Americans to give their wealth away. How? Mostly by taxes. “Economic Justice” is simply another phrase substituting for the word “socialism”. You see, we are convinced that Obama plans to, uh… “soak the rich”.

If Obama wins, and has his way, and he certainly will with a Democrat Congress, there will be massive tax increases and massive government spending on a scale this country has NEVER seen before. How long do you think it will be before America is bankrupt? How long do you think it will be before productive Americans, tired of working hard and having their hard earned wealth taken from them by the government, decide to simply stop working so hard and stop producing so much? Why SHOULD they continue to produce if the government is going to rob them of their earnings? Our national economy will circle the drain only briefly before diving down the tubes.

What sort of programs would Obama spend your wealth on? Well, take a look at the list at Investor’s Business Daily’s website. Some of them are:
"Universal," "guaranteed" health care, "Free" college tuition,” “Universal national service" (a la Havana), "Universal 401(k)s" (in which the government would match contributions made by "low- and moderate-income families"), "Free" job training (even for criminals), "Free" child care and "universal" preschool, and more “subsidized public housing”. For a more complete list visit:
http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=302137342405551

As the folks at Investor’s Business Daily say… this is just for “starters”. This is stuff he would propose and, more than likely, have passed into law by the Congress in HIS FIRST TERM!
It is scary to see that Obama’s voting record, throughout his political career, is farther to the left than that of the only openly socialist US Senator currently serving in the US Senate! Now, THAT IS frightening!

So, we have a neophyte senator from Illinois, with 143 days experience in the US Senate… and no legislation he can point to as his, with a gift of gab and a charismatic personality, having no foreign policy experience at a time when the nation is at war, making “pie in the sky” promises, AND, it appears, beginning to believe his own press releases, and all this raises, for me, the question I want answered most of all… who is behind Obama? Who? We have a little over two months to unravel that mystery. The answer, I suspect, will be extremely telling.

The Iran Scenarios ... by Alan Caruba

The Iran Scenarios
By Alan Caruba

**********************

These days you can read as many different scenarios regarding the likelihood that Israel will attack Iran’s nuclear facilities as there are experts putting them forth. History, past and present, may have already written the script.

In a recent interview with Der Spiegel; Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert asked, “Why do you need to enrich uranium if you don’t have the facilities that can make use of this uranium for civilian purposes?” Iran does have such plants, but both have been in various stages of construction and delay since 1992 and neither has ever produced a watt of electricity.

The August edition of Energy Tribune takes on the question of an Israeli military action against Iranian facilities refining fissionable materials for the development of nuclear weapons. John Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is quoted saying that Israel has “a window” in which to conduct the strike. It would be between “the day after the November 4 U.S. election and closes with the swearing-in of George W. Bush’s successor on January 20, 2009.”

On August 10, the Jerusalem Post quoted U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice saying, “We don’t say yes or no to Israeli military operations. Israel is a sovereign country.” The U.S. election in November could have a tremendous effect on whether Israel acts or not. Sen. McCain’s support of Israel is not in doubt. An Obama administration would be filled with officials whose antipathy to Israel is well known.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution began in 1979 when it took U.S. diplomats hostage and held them for 444 days. They were returned the same day Ronald Reagan was sworn into office. When Saddam Hussein declared war on Iran in 1980, he had the understandable backing of the United States, but the war ground to a stalemate in 1988 after costing both nations hundreds of thousands of casualties.

The experience left Iran’s leaders in a cautious mood. Militarily Iran has remained a provocateur, not an active belligerent. The Iranians have preferred to fight proxy wars with Israel via their support for Hezbollah, based in Lebanon, and Hamas, based in Gaza. Even their involvement in Iraq has been through proxies. There would appear to be limits to the courage of the mullahs that run Iran with an iron hand.

Militarily, Iran would prove to be an extremely difficult nation to invade or conquer. Thus,
an Israeli strike would be limited to destroying or at least significantly delaying Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions. At issue is when Iran would be capable of manufacturing and delivering its own nukes.

The next question to be answered is what benefit Iran’s leaders would perceive in launching a nuclear attack on Israel? Any use of nuclear weapons by any nation would come with a huge price. Iran is already a pariah nation despite its oil.

Since 1979 the Iran government has deemed the U.S. the Big Satan and Israel the Little Satan. When people spend nearly thirty years shouting “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”, history teaches that it is folly to ignore them or to suggest reasons to believe that it’s just bluster.

Writing in the August issue of Energy Tribune, Michael J. Economides and Peter C. Glover bluntly say, “We see no reason to change our opinion that an Israeli or Western air-strike is the only realistic way to prevent Iran’s ideologically-driven extremist regime.”

These two experts on energy and geopolitics estimate that $55.00 of the price per barrel of imported oil represents “geopolitical tensions, fear, and resulting speculation.” Put another way, the United States of America is sending billions to oil-producing Middle Eastern nations (and other oil producing nations) as the price we pay for the threat that Iran is presumed to pose. That threat would escalate if it gained nuclear weapons.

History, however, offers another scenario since the end of World War II. Despite the nuclear capability of the former Soviet Union and later Red China, the U.S. and other nations preferred a patient containment policy which reduced the potential of a major war. As we are witnessing in Georgia, the Russian quest for power is never static and always subject to change.

An Israeli attack, if followed by the collapse of the Iranian regime, would likely result in a relatively brief disruption in the flow of oil from the Middle East. The opening of the Strait of Harmuz would become an international priority, nor is the U.S. likely to be seriously affected because it imports much of its oil from Canada, Central and South America. It would surely increase the growing demands to open up ANWR in Alaska and authorization of off-shore oil exploration.

In 1981 Israel put an end to Saddam Hussein’s ambitions when it destroyed the Osirak reactor in 1981 and a Syrian nuclear facility in September 2007. Olmert will be gone as Israel’s prime minister by the end of September.

A new government, even one led by Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu, is not likely to take on the huge risks involved in an attack on Iran without explicit reassurances of U.S. approval and possible involvement. The problem for Israel is that such an attack would trigger war by a heavily rearmed Hezbollah based in Lebanon and a Gaza-based Hamas.

The irony is that all of Iran’s Arab neighbors would love to see Iran removed as an obstacle to peace in the region. Moreover, Iran represents Shiite Islam whereas other Muslim nations with the exception of Iraq are the majority Sunni sect. No love loss there.

Speculation will exist as long as the ayatollahs and the crazed Mamoud Amadinejad remain in power. In the end, like the sudden invasion of Georgia, the issue will be resolved by action, not talk.

Obama and Redistribution of the Wealth

Obama Ain’t Robin Hood!
By: J. D. Longstreet
*************************
A wise man once said: “When your rob from Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on support from Paul!”

“Redistribution of the wealth” is a phrase we hear a lot during election campaigns in America. You folks already living in socialist countries understand what it really means. For the most part, Americans do not. You see, here in America we built a country based on a citizen’s ability to better himself using the talents God gave him. He is limited only by the limits of his own capabilities. Here in America a child can dream of becoming rich and, if he has it in him, he can make that dream come true. Government interference is considered not only an inconvenience; it is an impediment to success in America. But that holds true in any society. Once the government intrudes into your business, you can close the doors, because they will smother your business with their rules and regulations, applied layer upon layer, until the death of your dream is imminent. Small businesses are the first to succumb.

“Redistribution of the wealth” is the watch word (watch PHRASE, maybe?) of the Democratic Party in America. Since America has been able to hold off a complete socialist take over of our government since FDR’s term in office, they have yet to accomplish, completely, the redistribution of the American family’s money. But that doesn’t stop them from continuing the drive to do so.

For the edification of my non-American readers … how do they do it? With TAXES! The Democratic Party LOVES TAXES. They create them. They raise them. They use them to embellish their own power over American business and the American citizen.

So, now… their latest democratic candidate for President is preaching the same sermon as all those Democrats seeking that same office before him: Redistribution of the Wealth. B. Hussein Obama is not Robin Hood. No matter what he and his legion of cohorts would like you to believe. What he is… is a democrat… the most liberal democrat in the US Senate and what he is preaching these days is socialism. CHANGE!

Why would we want to change a country as successful as America has been? For the most part Americans don’t want to change our system of government and our free market economic system. Unless of course, change means getting the government’s intervention out of the way of success for so many small businesses in America. THAT kind of change we can support.

We think Obama has bought into the United Nations nightmare scheme called The United Nations Millennium Declaration in which the UN calls for: “the eradication of poverty by redistribution of wealth and land,” wiping the slate clean of “the debts of developing countries,” and, it continues… a fair distribution of Earth’s resources.” Wow! Can you say: S O C I A L I S M??? That’s what is described in those short little phrases.

Larry Petrash has a piece we highly recommend. It is titled: “Is Obama’s change the change we want?” You’ll find it at:

http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2008/aug/17/obamas-change-change-we-want/

If you still question Mr. Obama’s socialistic leaning, understand that he is calling for socialized medicine in America. I mean the complete takeover of the healthcare system in America by the US government… you know, the folks who run the Post Office and the Veterans Administration… remember?

I am convinced the change Mr. Obama touts is, in fact, a through trashing of the US Constitution, changing America from a democratic republic to a socialist country under a socialist government, giving up the miracle of capitalism for the nightmare of socialism, giving up the idea of private property, you know, so the wealth can be “redistributed”, reducing the size and strength of our military and giving that money away in the form of “social” programs, again to redistribute the wealth, and finally, placing the US firmly in the grasp of the United Nations, which is, in my opinion, one of the most corrupt organizations ever designed by the mind of man.

No Obama is not Robin Hood. Robin Hood was not a socialist. What Robin Hood was… was a thief! No matter that his victims were the rich folks of Prince John’s realm, and the recipients of Hood’s largesse were the poor, what Robin Hood did was thievery, plain and simple! Somehow socialists have completely warped their thinking to believe that this kind of thievery is good, is kind, and is acceptable. It’s not. Judeo-Christian faith teaches us that thievery is wrong is a sin is a violation of God’s law. Why, the eighth commandment is: “Thou shalt not steal.” It makes no difference if it is an individual actually doing the deed of thievery, or if it is the government, it is still thievery and it is still wrong.

So, next time you are being regaled with the Democratic Party’s calls for redistribution of the wealth by taxation, and more and more social programs, remember the eighth commandment. Remember too, that Christ’s call to take care of those less fortunate was a call for individual action, not government action. Our friends on the Left simply cannot tear themselves away from their belief that government can do it better… no matter what “IT” happens to be..

No Mr. Hood was not a socialist. Recall, if you will, the government had seized Mr. Hood’s possessions. After all, Mr. Hood WAS a rich aristocrat prior to going off to war in the Middle East for HIS Commander-in-Chief. No, the analogy just does not fit.

Obama Weak on the International Stage. No Gravitas.

Obama’s Weakness as a Leader Comes Shining Through!
By: J. D. Longstreet
*************************

“I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia and urge an immediate end to armed conflict.” Thus was the pitiful, pathic, statement from the man who would be President of the US, Barack Hussein Obama. It was a near childish, supplication, very nearly a plea, for the bad guys, Russia, to stop beating up on the little guy, Georgia. It was exactly what I was expecting, almost word for word, from Mr. Obama.

If Russia’s invasion of Georgia demonstrated nothing else, it should have demonstrated to American voters where the real leadership ability lies in the two candidates for President of the US. Although I am not going to vote for Mr. McCain, he demonstrated that he instantly understood what was going on with Putin’s Russia.

In any face-off between Obama and Putin, my money is on Putin, every time. It’s not even a fair contest.

The “Little Dictator”, Putin, is a product of the Soviet KGB. No matter the Soviet Union is gone; Putin still thinks and acts as a top KGB agent, which he was. As we have said in other writings, the invasion of Georgia was a long planned event. It did not just happen overnight. Our badly weaken intelligence services missed it completely. That should not have happened. One of the first priorities of the next President should be to rebuild our intelligence community, even if that means closing a shop or two and starting over.

Mr. Obama is a product of the American Left, which is inherently weak. If members of the American Political Left share anything in common, it is their belief that they are intellectually superior to everybody else. I have known many American leftists in my lifetime, some as friends, and every one of them shared this trait. Why, they will even tell you of their intellectual superiority and boast about it. They are, at all times, the smartest people in the room.

Well, I am just a dumb ole country boy from the foothills of the Carolinas… but… as dumb as I am, I know a fool when I see one. The beginning of foolishness is the belief that you are the superior of all people in wisdom. It assures that you will fail, and fail “hard”, at some point in your “stellar” life. Mr. Obama comes across as one of those intellectual leftists who have been “educated beyond their abilities”.

There is Good and there is Evil in this world. Evil doesn’t give a damn how smart you are. In fact Evil will use your “smartness” against you. A truly smart man/woman knows better that to ever attempt to negotiate with Evil. Evil doesn’t negotiate. Evil does what it pleases until Good smacks it down… hard. Even then Good must be ready to smack Evil down again and again and again ad infinitum.

Mr. Obama demonstrated his naiveté, as well as his inability to understand that Mr. Putin could not have cared less what he (Obama) had to say about his (Putin’s) plans for Georgia. My guess is… Putin enjoyed a deep belly laugh at Mr. Obama’s limp-wristed diplomacy. Mr. Obama has just had a taste of one of the drawbacks of being a citizen of the world… he has no leverage. Being a leader of the world, on the other hand, has leverage AND gravitas. Mr. Obama has neither.

If Putin doesn’t blow all his Petro-dollars too soon we will have the Russian Bear at our throats again. If I had any suggestions to make to our intelligence community, it would be to keep a couple of our spy satellites trained on Cuba looking for long cylindrical shapes that might indicate the reintroduction of Russian missiles into Cuba aimed at the soft underbelly of the US. It is almost a given those missiles are going to pop up in Venezuela. If, and when they do, the US must be prepared to take them out. That will necessarily involve military action. When the time comes, the US must act decisively and not shrink from doing what must be done to insure the security of the country. I am convinced that will not happen with Obama in the Oval Office.

Yes, as has often been stated over the past few days, the bear is back. The US desperately needs a counterweight to Putin and, as we have seen over the same past few days, it darned sure isn’t Mr. Obama.

The "Silent Majority"

Where did the “Silent Majority” go???
By: J. D. Longstreet
**************************

During the decade of the seventies the “Silent Majority” was often spoken of in the press. Prominent politicians, including the President, openly sought their support.

Well, where did they go?

Oh, they’re still here… and just as powerful as before. You see them everyday. They’re all around you. They are the folks you see at parties who stand around the edges of a group discussing politics. They rarely have any input into the discussion… they just absorb it. They’re the folks who do not sit in on the coffee klatch discussion on politics and world affairs. They’re the people who go to church, nearly every Sunday, and raise their children to be respectful of others and live useful, productive lives. They send their kids to church supported universities and colleges for a good education, rather than an indoctrination in the ways of the political left.

The Silent Majority is the folk who never miss an opportunity to vote. They believe men died to give them that opportunity, and they will not abuse the memory of those heroic men by not going to the polls to vote. They are also the people who will not tell those taking the Exit Polls who they voted for. They voted in secret, it’s their secret, and they will keep it, often never even divulging it to their families. They are, for the most part, conservative in politics as well as religion.

These are the people who shop at Wal-Mart, and K-mart, and drive 2, 3 or 4 year old cars. Most own their own homes. They have savings accounts and they have a family budget, which they will not abuse. Their lives are built around their families and their church. Many are veterans of America’s armed forces. They believe this country is worth fighting for and they will put their own lives on the line to protect her. They view politics as a necessary evil. They believe they should always vote for the man who best represents their belief. They will not support a candidate just because he, or she, wears the label of the party to which they, themselves, are registered.

They wield enormous power. These people can make, or break, a presidential election. When they step into the voting booth, they speak, loud and clear. It is there that the Silent Majority rejects their silence and shouts their politics to the world.

They did it in November of 2000, again in 2004, and I would not be the least bit surprised if they decide the presidency this coming November. Our two presidential candidates, McCain and Obama, should be mindful of these powerful Americans. They see it all, and they hear it all, and they silently form their conclusion about who should get their support. Politicians, beware, you neglect the Silent Majority at your peril.
Then there is the Mainstream Media. The voice of the American left. They make fun of one of the mightiest forces in American politics. The Silent Majority never fails to notice the press’s stifled giggles; and their backhanded insults of the conservative politics of these very real, very patriotic, Americans. They see it all and… they remember… and they take those memories into the voting booth with them.

So, here’s to the Silent Majority! May God bless them!

Americans should say "NO!" to the Law of the Sea Treaty

Oppose The Law of the Sea Treaty
By: J. D. Longstreet

I came across something alarming a few days ago and I wanted to pass it along to you. Actually a friend of mine in Ohio alerted me to this and as soon as I read it I fired off e-mails to both my US Senators asking them to oppose it. I am referring to the Law of the Sea Treaty better known, at least among those who actually KNOW about it, as “LOST”!

Here is a snippet for the article I read: “The United States is inching closer toward ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). President Bush endorsed this treaty in May and has since urged the Senate to vote on ratification. Initial reports indicated that the Senate may have attempted to ratify LOST before adjourning for the August recess. Recent reports indicate that a vote to ratify the treaty could take place within the coming weeks. Former President Ronald Reagan originally rejected the ratification of LOST in 1982, but recent appeals from the Bush administration, some members of Congress, and the Council on Foreign Relations, have caused the treaty to resurface.”

At first I thought it was frightening enough that the Senate had possibly attempted to slip this horrible treaty through undetected but, as I read more about it, I truly became alarmed.

Here is another snippet: “The Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) entered into force in 1994 and has been ratified by 153 countries (click here for a list of recent LOST developments). The treaty gives the UN complete jurisdiction over the oceans and everything in them, including the ocean floor with all its resources, along with the power to regulate 70 percent of the world's surface. The International Seabed Authority could require the United States to share intelligence, technology and even military information. LOST could impose restrictions on intelligence-gathering by U.S. submarines, activities that are essential to national defense.”

Lou Dobbs had this to say about this Treaty: “The Senate Foreign Relations Committee recently heard arguments on the 1982 Law of the Sea Treaty, which President Ronald Reagan rejected but President Bill Clinton submitted to the Senate in 1994. A vote is likely in the weeks ahead, and this Democratic-controlled Senate is the same institution whose leadership sought passage of the disastrous comprehensive immigration overhaul legislation.”

If we have captured your attention, even a little bit, we’d like to direct you to the website from which the snippets of info on this page originally came. You’ll find it here: http://capwiz.com/jbs/issues/alert/?alertid=10443156

This is serious business. We have given away far too much of our freedom in this country in the last couple of decades, or so. We stand at the threshold of a one-world government, which would immediately place the United States, and it’s constitution, at heel behind that single globe spanning government. Do you want that? I certainly don’t. This treaty, which, when passed by the US Senate, will have the force of US Federal Law, is one of the ways your freedom and mine will be handed over to some other governing authority other than the one you and I voted for.

We Americans, who value what freedom we have left, cannot allow this monster “freedom killer” to survive! I will be urging my Senators and my Congressman to vote against this monstrosity.

Securing the Military Ballot

The Military Vote
BY J. D. Longstreet
**************************

Some of you may remember the big push, by the Democrats, during the legal blow-up over the 2000 election, to not have the Military vote counted.

Why do you suppose the Democrats hate and fear the US Military as they do? Is it possibly because they judge the US Military by using themselves as the measure?

Look the US Military is far and away Republican. They vote that way, too. There’s a good reason for both. Democrats seem to have a real problem with feeling their country is worth defending. Therefore they see no reason to put themselves in danger… especially when the Republicans, they hate so much, will take on the task and protect the Democrats at the risk of THEIR (Republican) lives. See? It’s simple!

Why does the Military vote Republican? See the paragraph above!

Since Vietnam, the US Military has had close encounters with the Mainstream Media of the US. They are now aware that the MSM is the voice of the Democrat Party. Plus, with TV available to our men and women at arms in far off battle zones, they can see and compare the news we, here at home, are getting… to what they, on the ground in that theatre of war, are seeing… and taking part in. They have seen the lies and the distortions told about them, and about the US efforts in Iraq, and they have been the butt of remarks (By a leading Democrat) questioning the mental capability of our military. Guess what. They haven’t missed any of it… and… in November… they will have a chance to unload… at the ballot box! And the Dems are worried. Deeply worried.

I have thought for a long time now that Democrats should be barred from military service in the US Military. They’re a bad influence on the real Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen.

Another thing: I saw some figures a few days ago, which did not surprise me, but are very telling. Forty some odd percent of the US troops, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, hail from just eleven Southern states. (Remember how many southern states there were in the Confederacy? Answer: eleven.) Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Southerners have always answered their country’s call, whether it was the USA or the CSA. Soldering is an honorable profession. The Scot-Irish ancestry of much of the South produces some of the fiercest war fighters in the world.

When I was a boy, the South was solid Democrat. That came from the time prior to, and during, and the awful so-called Reconstruction Period after the Civil War. Many Southerners connected the Republican Party, the Party of Lincoln, with the War of Northern Aggression and recoiled, even at the mention of the word “Republican”.

So… what changed? The Democrat Party changed. In the decade of the 60’s the Democrat Party adopted much of the Socialist Party’s platform and the South left! The Republican Party saw the South was ripe for the picking and amended their ways and adopted much of the Old Democrat Party platform. Then, being a Southern Republican became a whole lot more palatable to Southerners. Then came President Richard Nixon, and the Southern Strategy, and the South was gone from the clutches of the Democrat Party.

Southerners are fiercely loyal to their country. As I said earlier, it makes no difference if their country is the USA or the former CSA. It is their country and they will not think twice about defending her anytime, and any place, on this earth.

This, then, brings us back to the US Military today and their vote this coming November. Care to guess for whom the majority of their votes will be cast? It’s a “no brainer”. The Democrat Party knows this and they will make every effort to keep those votes from being counted just as they did in the 2000 election.

The GOP must be prepared to bock their efforts. For a herd of Democrat lawyers will be let loose to throw legal monkey wrenches into the election process.

They must be stopped. This election could very easily be about the survival of the United States as a free country.

McCain or Obama? Which is Loaded for Bear?

Obama or McCain vs. The Russian Bear?
By: J. D. Longstreet
***************************

With the Russian bear on the prowl again, whom do you want standing in the way of that bear? Obama or McCain? THAT will be the question come this November! For me, the answer is obvious. It should be for you as well.

It’s not like we didn’t know this was going to happen. If you know the least bit about Russian history then you know Russia is going to expand and keep expanding until somebody forces them to stop. They cannot help themselves. A form of national paranoia passed from generation to generation kindles their “expansionism”. There is something in the Russian mind, in the Russian psyche that demands they must have a “strongman” leader. They are ever in search of a “Czar”. Otherwise, they feel weak, exposed, inadequate, and vulnerable. They incessantly fear attack, invasion, rape, pillage, sacking of their country by some other country, even when they cannot clearly define the “would be attacker”. That fear is ever present. Their aggression is a sure sign of their fear. Never, NEVER, turn your back on the Russians. For if you do…you present them with an inviting target… and they will strike! Every time.

So, we have returned to the bi-polar world… the Russian half of the world and the US half of the world.

The US will have no choice now but to rebuild our military. That means reinstating the draft. We need more “bodies”. For what the Russian military lacks in technology they more than make up for in warm bodies which they have no problem using as cannon fodder. Personally, I still support mandatory military service for all Americans. But, that’s just me.

Certainly, all clear thinking Americans know this Georgia incursion was not a last minute thing. Putin has been planning this thing for months, maybe even years. Look back over the history between the US and Russia and you will see that when Russia launches into a new adventure, they make sure our attention is diverted elsewhere. Putin cannot have missed the likelihood that Obama will be the next President of the US and he knows all the restraints he now has forced upon him by the US will fall away and… he will be on the march. All those small former satellite nations around Russia will soon be back in the fold.

Looking critically at the US…it is clear that not only must the US rebuild our military, we must do it quickly. We also need to elect a military man, or a former military man, as President of this country, in November. We now NEED a soldier at the helm. Mr. Obama simply does not have what it will take to lead this country. Speaking well, having been endowed with an oversize ego, but with almost no experience in the real world certainly does not qualify him. I refer to THE real world where a drawn out dialog with your enemy means hundreds, even thousands, more deaths occur while polite diplomatic exercises take place. I mean THE real world where death is just minutes away delivered by intercontinental ballistic missiles tipped with nuclear warheads. Having, as the leader of the United States, a novice politician, woefully lacking in experience, but bolstered with an oversized ego, will accomplish nothing… except invite our enemies to run, roughshod, over our interests overseas and, eventually, here at home.

The US is in entirely too much danger, at this point in history, to seriously even consider, for one moment, electing Mr. Obama as President. The Islamofacists are bent on striking us again, here, on our own shores. They tell us as much. In our recent past, less than brilliant leaders in the Congress and the office of President have decimated our military and intelligence communities. As a result, we have a military stretched to its limits fighting on two fronts we know of, Iraq and Afghanistan, and other fronts we are NOT told of, and our intelligence agencies have been so shorn of quality personnel, equipment, funding, and human intelligence resources around the world, that, oftimes, it would appear we would do better leasing assets from the Israeli Mossad!

The next President of the US will inherit a war. Did you catch that? Did that register with you? I’ll say it again, clearer this time: The next President, whoever he is, will walk into the Oval Office while bullets are flying, shells are exploding, and missiles screaming death from the skies, as silent spy planes soar in lazy circles above a mountainous region of the Middle East searching, relentlessly, for the master of the mayhem begun on 9-11-2001.

And now the Russian Bear has slipped it’s leash and, once again is ripping and tearing it’s way through those inhabitants unfortunate enough to reside on the fringes of its domain. The bear is seeking, as always, to expand its domain, no matter the toll in the carnage of human lives and ruined cities, towns, and villages. The Russians are even moving into our hemisphere with airbases planned for Venezuela, and even though they dispute it, refueling bases for their nuclear bombers in Cuba, just off our southern shore.

The next US President will, of necessity, have to be a Commander-in-Chief from the first moment he takes the oath of office. The life of every mother’s son and daughter in the uniform of our military will depending upon HIM for leadership that will win the war and return them safely to their loved ones… in THAT order. Cutting and running from the battle will do nothing except insure that the war goes on, on other fronts, and not on those carefully chosen and prepared “killing fields’ in the Middle East. Abandoning the field of battle will force the enemy to bring the war to us… to America… to our shopping malls, to our sports stadia, to OUR buses, trains, airliners, churches, synagogues and yes, even to our children’s schools.

Every election is said to be the most important election in the history of the country. But, this one, THIS one, may decide if you and I live or die.

Yes, “The Bear” is back. Seems to me… the best thing for America, this coming November, is to elect a man to the office of President who is “loaded for bear”.

The Communist Party USA and Obama.

The Communist Party USA newspaper, the “People’s Weekly World”, has an editorial you need to read if you have any doubt about where Obama’s support is coming from. Actually, every American voter should read it.The paper may be found online at:

The article to which we’d like to direct your attention is titled:
“Eye on the Prize." You’ll find it at:

We have been telling you, since day one, that Obama is preaching socialism. If there was any doubt, at all, this should remove it.

The folks over at CNSNews.com have an excellent article about it. You’ll find it at:

This should come as no surprise to anyone. The democrat/socialists are currently in charge of the legislative branch of the US government. If they manage to get a socialist in the Oval Office, you can bet the Supreme Court is next. Then, what’s left? Think about it.

How NOT to Have Electricity .... By Alan Caruba

How NOT to Have Electricity
By Alan Caruba

Electricity is so commonplace that no one gives any thought to not having access to it. Few give any consideration to how it is generated, but we are now being inundated with the most virulent nonsense about how wind or solar power is “clean” and practically “free.” Every week there’s some new proposal to cover the nation with wind farms and solar panels.

The problem for everyone who wants to get rich with these energy sources or those who think they are the answer to our energy needs is that neither wind, nor solar can ever power anything more than relatively small projects like a farm or a local stadium. A nation of more than three hundred million people, however, needs a lot of generation capacity.

All the razzle-dazzle of television advertising and public relations propaganda cannot justify the building of massive wind or solar farms. They are simply inadequate to the production of the electricity the nation requires now and in the future. The weird thing about T. Boone Picken’s pitch is that he talks about oil dependency to justify wind power, but vehicles are not powered by wind. Nor are they likely to be powered by liquefied natural gas as Pickens suggests.

By contrast, the July edition of Energy Tribune devoted some of its pages to the comeback of nuclear power in America. What jumped out at me was co-editor, Robert Bryce’s citation of the fact that, “The U.S. government has spent some $7 billion building a repository for nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain in Nevada” and that Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) has declared that it “is never going to open” and is “not the answer to nuclear waste storage.”

Sen. Reid recently said that “Coal is making us sick. Oil is making us sick” and then went on to blather insanely about global warming.

According to Bryce, “On June 3, the Department of Energy submitted an 8,600-page application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeking approval of the Yucca Mountain site for waste storage. Just one day later, Nevada urged the agency to reject the application.” This is a glaring example of how to make sure America lacks the electrical energy it needs.

Throughout the debate over energy use the Big Lie has been that industrial and other activities generate carbon dioxide emissions that, in turn, are causing global warming. Ergo, we have to radically alter every aspect of modern life to avoid the Earth’s destruction.

The problem with that is a decade-old cooling period that the Earth entered in 1998 and which is getting colder, not warmer. The other problem is the fact that the Earth has passed through periods in which the levels of CO2 in our atmosphere were much higher than they are today.

Since it is getting colder, we are going to need more electricity and other sources of energy to keep us warm in our homes, offices, schools, et cetera. We are going to have to burn coal, currently the major source of power to generate electricit as well as the cheapest and most abundant. We will continue to use natural gas as well. All the hydroelectric sources have been identified and are in use at present.

That leaves nuclear. An Energy Tribune article by William E. Burchill serves up lots of information about the nuclear production of electrical energy. Worldwide 441 nuclear reactors are providing electricity to one billion people. Presently it provides twenty percent of America’s electricity needs thanks to the 104 nuclear plants operating in the U.S.

Here’s something to keep in mind. “No U.S. plant worker or member of the public has ever been injured or killed by an accident caused by nuclear power.” Moreover, amidst the frenzy over CO2, nuclear is “an emissions-free source of electricity.”

There is a literal renaissance of nuclear energy in America and this is a good thing. The U.S. Department of Energy forecasts that, by 2030, U.S. demand will increase by 30 percent. This increase reflects a worldwide trend. Currently, China, India, Russia, South Korea, Pakistan, and Japan are in the process of building a total of thirty-five nuclear plants and other nations have announced plans.

The worldwide demand for more electricity is growing right along with population growth and the spurt of industrialization occurring in nations that have looked at the Western model and are now beginning to compete in the process called globalization. By mid-century, the demand for electricity will double or triple.

The elected leaders of America have been largely deaf and blind to our national needs, opposing electrical generation no matter what source is used. Resistance to nuclear energy was part of the environmental agenda, but these days their cries and lies are mostly about what they now call “dirty fuels”, oil and coal.

What can Americans do when we have loonies like Sen. Harry Reid or House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spouting nonsense and blocking efforts to meet current and future energy needs? One answer is almost too obvious. They and others can and should be voted out of office. They can be replaced!

Or maybe you want to wait while wind power, currently 0.77 percent of the sources of electricity energy, or solar power, about 0.01 percent, replaces coal, natural gas, nuclear and hydroelectric power. Bundle up! You’re going to be very cold

A Warning to America! ... by J. D. Longstreet

A Warning to America!

by: J. D. Longstreet

***************************

Sometimes it is necessary, in order to get an objective look at a problem, to rely on the conclusion of someone detached, someone far enough away from the problem to see the “big picture”. Sort of like the expression, “you can’t see the forest for the trees”, we American may be too close to our own problem(s) to actually SEE them. Well, someone, far enough away, half a world away, actually, has taken a look and has seen America’s problem and has even written a warning to the people of America about it. Her Nome de plume, or pseudonym, is Gemma Meyer. Ms. Meyer is, or was, in fact, a journalist in South Africa. She is married to a former “conservative” member of the South African Parliament. When she wrote this piece, back in 2005, she was still living in the country of South Africa.

The title of Ms. Meyer’s article is: “A Warning for America from South Africa”. It is right on target. As you read Ms. Meyer’s work, you will recognize the things she warms America about. You can’t help yourself. It’s all there… right in front our eyes, but, for the most part, Americans simply don’t see them. Well, that’s not exactly true. SOME of us see them. SOME of us TRY to sound a warning, ourselves, to our fellow Americans but we are shouted down, called every vile name in the book, castigated publicly, and generally “made fun of”. Nevertheless, America’s problems persist, frankly, because of the blindness of the majority of Americans. Make that: “willful blindness” … for nothing else comes close to explaining how we have allowed this to happen to our beloved country.

I’d like to recommend that you read Ms. Meyer’s article and see for yourself just how “on target” she really is. You’ll find it at:

http://davidbenariel.wordpress.com/2007/03/09/a-warning-for-america-from-south-africa/

Did you catch yourself glancing, from time to time, to the top of the article to assure yourself of the date it was written? I did. It was written three years ago. I couldn’t help but feel a certain sense of, well, desperation, to realize that since she wrote this piece America has had three more years of circling the drain.

When is America going to wake up? WILL she wake up? Will she wake up in time? Or, will time run out? We have been sliding down that slippery slope at an every increasing velocity since the 1960’s. We’re not losing our freedom. We’re not losing our country. No. We’re giving it all away.

We have compromised and compromised until we have little left to compromise. Yet, we have two presidential candidates, right now, who are BOTH believers in compromise. They make a big deal of their willingness to compromise. What is needed is the testosterone to stand up on our two feet, like men, and shake our fist in the face of our enemies and say, NO MORE! This is it! We are done giving you what you want just to be left along in our comfortable little cocoons.

The wolves have been gathering in an ever-tightening circle. They are closing in one step at a time. And we Americans don’t see it. Instead we continue to feed them while telling ourselves if we give them what they want they will be our friends. We have chosen to forget one of the laws of Nature. Wolves are what wolves are. They do what wolves do. Even a wolf, thought to be domesticated, is liable to turn and leap for the throat of the person who supposes he is the wolf’s master. Yes, wolves do as wolves have always done… because they ARE wolves.

America’s enemies are gathered against us. They are tightening the circle. Even now they are among us. Sadly, a look in the mirror will reveal the identity of America’s worst enemies.

Russia. At it Again!

Russia...at it Again!
By: J. D. Longstreet
*********************

It didn’t take Russia long to begin flexing her military muscle, once she got her feet under her again, now did it? Yep! She’s up to her old tricks again, driving her troops across borders and into neighboring countries, stirring up trouble, just like in the old days. Some things just never change…well, not for long, anyway.

So, what is Russia’s incursion into Georgia all about, anyway? OK, to get to the truth and cut through all the garbage, this is a fight between Russia and the United States. Russia is royally PO’ed at the US for messing around in what it considers its backyard. Blame NATO.

You see, The Ukraine and Georgia are on the waiting list to become members of NATO, a US led alliance of nations. Once, an organization for nations along the North Atlantic Ocean, (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Nato long since moved inland…. way inland! This does not sit well with Russia… not at all.

Georgia, in an attempt, we believe, to gain US support in its bid for NATO membership, lent some two thousand troops to the effort in Iraq. Until today Georgia had the third largest contingent of troops serving in Iraq after the US and the UK…. a fact little known by the remainder of the world. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Vladimirovic Putin didn’t miss it, however. Those troops are being flown back to Georgia, ASAP, to assist their own country in its struggle with Russia.

Georgia is pro-US… and… the US is pro-Georgia. That irks the living daylights out of the Russians. Maybe it would be more nearly correct to say that it irks Putin. Do not mistake the fact that even though Dimtry Medvedev is the “front man”, as the Russian President, Prime Minister Putin is pulling the strings.

Now that Putin is out of the persistent limelight, after turning the office of President of Russia over to Dimtry Medvedev, he has been freed up to REALLY instigate trouble all over the globe for the US… and he is allowing no grass to grow beneath his feet.

Just a few days ago we learned of Putin’s plans for a Russian Nuclear Bomber base being planned for the Island of Cuba, just 90 miles south of the US mainland. Of course, the Russians vehemently denied it, but nobody can convince me that it is not a tit-for-tat from Putin over the US insistence on placing defensive anti-missile “missile bases” in Putin’s backyard. He is furious about that. The Georgia adventurism, we believe, is all a part of his scheme to rattle America’s cage during what is probably one of the only periods of time when America is in a weakened state, and that is during the closing months of a Presidential election. For all intents and purposes the US government goes into limbo for those critical weeks and it is a prime time for enemies of the US to provoke trouble for the US. Putin is not unaware of the less that stellar leadership in the US Congress, currently, which is to say, basically NONE, and he is bound to take advantage of it. That is exactly what he is doing.

You will have noted, I take it, one of the Russian Air Force’s targets was that vital US supported pipeline, in Georgia, bringing that black gold from the Caspian Sea area. The oil coursing through that petroleum artery allows the US to reduce its dependence on Middle Eastern oil… and… at the same time, it bypasses Russia … and the other trouble spot in the Middle East… Iran. It is a persistent irritant to the “Russian Bear” now prowling the woods once again.

By the way, that pipeline carries some one million barrels of crude, per day. That is a bit more than one percent of the world’s crude oil output per day! That is HUGE! The oil, itself, comes from the fields of Azerbaijan located near the Caspian Sea. Mostly unknown, those oil fields are thought to hold roughly one-third of the world’s known oil reserves today. And to make matters worse… those vitally important oil fields are immensely important to the US! Crude oil prices, gasoline prices, and, yes, fuel oil prices are bound to skyrocket in a few days just when they had dropped to a level at which American voters could finally see a light at the end of the black, black, tunnel! To make matters worse, those Azerbaijan oil fields are extremely vulnerable to attack from Russian forces.

Even as US President George Bush was speaking to Russia’s New Prime Minister Putin, about the violence in Georgia, Russian tanks were rolling in. The Georgian Ambassador to the US was pleading with the US, and other Georgian friends, for assistance in stopping what can only be referred to as a Russian “Invasion” of Georgia. The US State Department, within hours, sent a message to Russia asking Russia to halt this invasion with a “cease fire” and prepare for a mediator from Washington due, on scene, almost immediately.

The truth is, that any way you parse it, this is Russian aggression, something we became accustomed to during the Cold War One It would now seem that Cold War Two is upon Us!

The Suicide of America... by J.D. Longstreet

America’s Suicide
By: J. D. Longstreet
*********************

We have a country so torn about whether it wants to be free, or a socialist slave nation, a country which is so ignorant of it’s own rights and privileges, as well as it’s responsibilities, under the US Constitution, and so utterly ignorant of the actual laws of the US that it behooves us from time to time to stop, take a deep breath, and try to decide who we are, what we are, and where we are headed.

We are a nation at war. Our enemies have sworn to wipe us out. That, in itself, is not new. It seems some nation, or group of nations, or fanatics, has been trying that since, well, 1776. So far, we are still here.

Having said that, I think we are as close to collapsing, as a free nation, as we have ever been… at any time in our history.

Our educational system has failed this country. It has failed the would be beneficiaries of it’s knowledge. We now have a couple of generations, in existence currently, who haven’t a clue who they are. Why? Because our educational system no longer teaches history. I don’t mean the politically correct garbage, disguised as history, our kids are being taught today. The left is busily at work attempting to sell our young students a bill of goods to create support for a political system that will eventually, in the dreams of the left, replace the capitalist system upon which the nation was founded and upon which it has flourished. No, I mean real history, the raw, gritty, stuff that does not shrink from teaching us of our failures and our triumphs. The story that helps us to understand who we are and how we got here, the story that creates pride in oneself and pride in one’s nation.

Further, it teaches our students that the United States is a Representative Republic, not a Democracy, as they have been taught to believe. A history that teaches our students that there is, indeed, an AMERICAN CULTURE. A singular culture, created by our ancestors, and to which each generation contributes, good or bad, as the generations come onto, and pass from, the American scene.

I’m speaking of a history that teaches our youngsters how laws are made, how laws are used, and how laws are tested. It teaches them respect for the law. It teaches them that in America, very little is asked of it’s citizens, except that they obey the laws which were created by the representatives their parents sent to the government of the United States for the sole purpose of making those laws.

The history I’m speaking of teaches that America is a country of law(s). Our society is based upon a code of law, which was based upon, among other things, the Ten Commandments of the Bible, English Common Law, and other codes.

Proper history teaches there are rights, privileges, and responsibilities, all tied up into one bundle and each citizen is handed that bundle at birth. It further teaches that for every infraction of a law, there is a punishment. It is the way civilization governs itself. If you break the law, you will be punished.

But, our American youth have no knowledge of these basic fundamentals of citizenship in America. . They haven’t a clue who, and what, they are. They no longer have the pride for their country and the passion, or love, for her that is necessary for a country to survive and thrive. It just isn’t there.

All great nations commit suicide. America is no different. We are in the process, even as I write. We HAVE been since, at least, the decade of the 1960’s.

I’m afraid America has reached and passed her “high water mark”. The descent into mediocrity began in the 1960’s and decline has increased at a frightening pace ever since.

I believe the American educational system has done this. It has gone from the premier educational system, in the world, to the rough equivalent of an educational system of a third world country. I have concluded that … if a country wishes to destroy its educational system, the quickest and most efficient away to do that is to allow the teachers to unionize. The most powerful unions in America today, bar none, are the teacher’s unions.

Then, there are the politicians who make use of these ignorant products of the American Educational system and, boy, have they ever! We have a nation filled, to over flowing, with “Useful Idiots”! And there is no light at the end of that very long tunnel.

I suppose the gaudiest example of American ignorance resides in the American Left. (The old expression “birds of a feather”, etc.) Although, we have our share on the Right, as well, it seems most pronounced on the Left, I think, because of their propensity toward public displays of their ignorance. The glittering jewels of ignorance seem to, sort of, wash up on the shores of the Left and are immediately lauded, and praised, and placed in positions of prominence for the entire world to see. Examples: the anti-war movement, the global warming/climate change crowd, the pro-choice crowd, the politically correct crowd, the ban the bomb crowd, the supporters of the UN crowd, the tolerance crowd, the multicultural crowd, and many groups which support strange and weird behavior. All these groups fall beneath the Left’s huge umbrella. Every so often one of them will pop up on the Right, only to be shut down and expelled. On the Right, we don’t suffer fools lightly. If we find we are cursed with such a group, or individual, we relegate them to the backbenches, immediately, out of public view. We do not advertise and promote our fools.

It disturbs me, beyond mention, to note how quickly our nation has gone from an individualistic, God- fearing, “Can DO” nation, to a nation of dependent hedonists, who find the word “can’t” to be the course of least resistance and cling to it in hopes of being saved from themselves by a government every bit as helpless as themselves.

I must tell you, I believe there is something to what the preachers, and prophets, of old tried to tell us… that was… that God would withdraw his favor from a nation, which chose to forsake Him. God must weep, regularly, when he views the mess we have made of this great, and glorious land, to which, I am convinced, He led our Forefathers.

We find ourselves, as a country, today split into two camps. One camp wants to save the country, from itself, and restore it to its rightful position as that “shining city on a hill”. The other is bent on the total destruction of what is left of that dream and what is left of the efforts of the founders of this unique experiment. As a member of the former group, I must tell you I feel we are losing to the latter group. Any proof you might need is splashed across your morning newspaper and the screens of your TV sets.

Can we save America? Frankly, I don’t think we can. Just look at the mediocre candidates for President both sides have offered up to the American voter Plus, when I survey the generations, upon whose shoulders the task of saving America will lie, I REALLY fear for the survival of America.

You see, when you rob a people of their identity, you have taken everything from them. You can lead them wherever you wish…right off the cliff, if you wish. They will unquestioningly follow. They don’t know any better.

I see two generations, behind mine, neither of which has any clue who they are. Their destruction is assured. In their destruction lies the destruction of the once great land known as America.

US Arctic Oil May be LOST to the UN ... by Alan Caruba

US Arctic Oil May be LOST to the UN
By Alan Caruba

********************************
“The Arctic may hold 90 billion barrels of oil, more than all the known reserves of Nigeria, Kazakhstan, and Mexico combined, and enough to supply U.S. demand for 12 years.” One would have thought Joe Carroll’s Bloomberg News report would have evoked some interest by the public and other media outlets. Instead, news of the U.S. Geological Survey was greeted mostly by a giant collective yawn.

“One third of the undiscovered oil is in Alaskan territory, the agency found…” Considering that the Democrat-controlled Congress adamantly refuses to let drilling occur for the oil known to exist in and off-shore Alaska, it is not surprising the public has concluded this vast treasure will remain untouched.

Apathy, however, is not a very good response to the prospect of this mother lode of potential new oil. Worse yet, we stand lose any of the wealth it will generate if the same Congress signs the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty, whose acronym, LOST, could not be more accurate. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have endorsed it, apparently oblivious to the fact that the mighty U.S. Navy can go anywhere it wants in the world. Even the Bush administration has marshaled no arguments against it.

This monstrosity of a treaty has been around since the days when the Reagan administration first rejected it.

Full disclosure of the contents of this treaty would have Americans in the streets of Washington, D.C. brandishing pitchforks. Bernard Oxman a professor at my alma mater, the University of Miami, describes its text as “amply endowed with indeterminate principles, mind-numbing cross-references, institutional redundancies, exasperating opacity, and inelegant drafting.” In other words, it is a document intended to steal the wealth to which the United States has a legitimate claim.

Douglas Stone, a Senior Fellow at the Center for Security Policy, warns that, “LOST fostered the idea, per se, of international organizations with increasing transnational jurisdiction. Its bureaucracy will be nourished by royalties on mineral extraction and provide a model for similar agencies to assume authority and impose taxes and to inexorably devour American institutions and autonomy.”

Can you imagine gifting the United Nations with $50 trillion in Arctic oil taxes? That is what the U.S. Senate proposes to do if it ratifies LOST.

Frank J. Gaffney Jr., president of the Center, reminds us that, “If Americans have learned anything about the United Nations over the last 50 years, it is that this ‘world body’ is, at best, riddled with corruption and incompetence. At worst, its bureaucracies, agencies and members are overwhelmingly hostile to the United States and other freedom-loving nations…”

For more than a decade, the United Nations International Seabed Authority (ISA) has never produced a single commercial minerals harvesting operation despite having unfettered access to all the world’s great oceans resources.

The United States, however, needs more oil now. In addition to Congress having put vast reserves in Alaska’s ANWR off-limits, it has done the same for exploration and drilling in 85% of the nation’s continental shelf.

The solution to America’s present oil crisis lies in part in the Arctic Commons and, in particular, the Amerasia-Canada basin that holds the promise of huge oil reserves for centuries to come.

A dangerous scramble for the oil and gas reserves between Russia and the West can be avoided and, more to the point, the U.S. will lose its entire future commercial and energy security by signing onto LOST. Meanwhile, Democrat leaders in both houses of Congress have already rejected President Bush’s July 14 effort to end a 25-year moratorium on drilling in most coastal waters.

The Democrat controlled Congress is either insane, treasonous, or both. Its presumptive candidate for President wants to repeat Carter’s appalling windfall profits tax on oil companies. The ultimate result was a nearly 60% reduction in U.S. oil production.

As the Bloomberg News report noted, “The region above the Arctic Circle also holds an estimated 1,669 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, equal to 27 percent of the world’s known gas reserves, according to the U.S. Geological Survey report. “Contributors to the data included the Geological Survey of Canada, the U.S. Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the Cambridge Arctic Shelf Program, and researchers in Denmark and Greenland. No Russian institutions took part in the study.”

At a time when nationalized foreign oil companies control more than 70% of the world’s energy resources, private enterprise is the only answer to our national energy security. The largest transfer of wealth in history is occurring and it bodes ill for the United States. We dare not compound this travesty by failing to take steps to ensure access to the Arctic Commons vast reserves.

America NEEDS Borders!

America NEEDS Borders!
by: J. D. Longstreet
**************************

A country cannot call itself a “sovereign” country if it is not in control of its borders. A country cannot claim control of its territory IF it DOES NOT control its borders.

I am of the opinion, and have been for a few years now, that there is a movement afoot within the government of this country(?) to do away with borders entirely. It is a “globalist” movement. It is the nutty idea that we are all brothers and sisters and we are one country (You know… “We Are The World”…), not the 194 countries recognized AS countries by the US State Department today.

I am referred to often, by those who disagree with me, as being a “nationalist”. I plead guilty. I AM a nationalist… and proud of it!

Back in the days of yore, when I went to school, we students DID stand at our desks, hands over hearts, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag EVERY morning. Before the school system had an intercom system all students met for “morning assembly” in the school’s auditorium. It was there we recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and then, the principal would read a bit of scripture and we all recited the Lord’s Prayer”…and then… we began out studies. We KNEW OUR country was America… the United States of America. There was no confusion about it. We knew where the borders were and we knew why they were there… and, again, we KNEW WE were AMERICANS! And we were PROUD!

The past couple of generations of American “scholars” haven’t been that fortunate. They are confused about who and what they are. They have no problem with outsiders sneaking across those invisible lines to our north and south… not to mention the eastern and western borders with their white sands and rocky outcroppings.

Seems to me there is a distinct lack of “belonging” amongst the baby-boomers and their offspring. It is sad, really.

Everyone NEEDS to belong. It is a part of being a human being. But, there is also a reason we have tribes and clans and families and, yes, COUNTRIES. The need to belong, though strong, is simply not strong enough to encompass a world, any world. Embracing the world as your family is one of those liberal, feel good, warm and fuzzy philosophies that is, well, awfully nice to sit around, taking deep drags from a self rolled tetrahydrocannabinol cigarette (POT!) and mindfully musing while contemplating your navel. Other than that, it is totally worthless.

Our friends on the left have been dismantling families and clouding the meaning of the word “family” in a successful attempt to disconnect us from the nucleus of society.

Now, I am not a frequent visitor to the conspiracy theory farm, where those things are grown, but occasionally, a new thought springs fourth, unbidden, and it seems to have some validity. Currently, I have begun to look askance at the possibility of a movement to merge all the world’s nations into a single global community. Of, course that would, of necessity, require a central government. That is to say… a one-world government. To make it possible, one must first disconnect those he wishes to reconnect to a world community, from their most important connection, and that is… their family. How? You redefine family. And that is what has happened.

Now, how has this any effect on what is happening on America’s southern border? Well, I refer you to the second paragraph of this piece… where you will find the words: “nutty idea”.

There is undeniably a movement underway, in our government, to merge the three countries of the North American continent (Mexico, The US, and Canada) into a single entity. We know this, although all parties concerned vehemently deny it. Allowing a free flow of citizens of all three countries, back and forth across the borders, will only hasten the day when we Americans will perceive our borders as, well, unnecessary. I mean, why have borders when we have become one “super-country” anyway? Forgive my paranoia here if I sniff a conspiracy in the works!

I would remind you, the ONLY reason our southern border is being abused by our neighbors to the south is simply because the US Government wants them to do exactly what they are doing, flowing into our country in a virtual human tsunami which has already supplanted the largest minority in the country, African-Americans, and moved them into second place. The Latinos are now the number one minority in the US.

If the US government wanted the southern border secured they could do it… almost overnight. We have the means and the materiel. What we do NOT have is a government with the will to do it. It is as simple as that.

I have warned a number of times that eventually the citizens of this country will take matters into their own hands as they have done so many times in the country’s history. When that happens, it will not be pretty, and it will most likely lead to a confrontation between the US Military and US Civilians. As I said… it will not be pretty.

I wish I could offer a solution. I mean, a solution that would solve the problem without violence. But each day that passes without the US government doing its duty by securing our borders, especially our southern border, only increases the momentum of the coming violent conflict along the southern border.

Relieve NATO in Afghanistan? ... by J.D. Longstreet

Relieve NATO in Afghanistan?
By: J. D. Longstreet

**************************

If the US has any hope of winning a war in Afghanistan, then all those NATO troops, and their politically correct approach to fighting a war, have to be relieved. In fact, I see no real reason, anymore for continuing the alliance known as NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization.)

There are, currently, 43,000 NATO troops in Afghanistan. Now, check this…. 14, 000 of THOSE NATO troops are American troops. Then look a tad closer and you’ll find another 13,000 American troops in Afghanistan, not serving under the NATO flag. So, only 29,000 of the NATO troops are non-American. When you add the American troops together you get 27,000 American troops in Afghanistan as opposed to 29,000 non-American NATO troops. Ponder those numbers for a moment.

Now, why aren’t the NATO troops more effective? When one looks objectively at the NATO troops performance in Afghanistan, one would have to conclude that NATO is certainly not winning the war against the Taliban. If anything, they have reached some sort of stalemate. Not winning and not losing.

Some observers say that some of the NATO countries insist on placing their troops in less dangerous parts of Afghanistan. Germany, for instance has her troops assigned to the northern part of that country where there is much less combat and much less chance that Germany will rack up combat deaths and injuries to her troops. US Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, has said he is afraid that NATO is in danger of splitting into two parts. He went on to say this policy could end up… “forcing other allies to bear a disproportionate share of the fighting and dying." Needless to say some of the NATO partners are furious at the two-tied NATO policy. On the other hand, Britain, Canada, and the Netherlands are directly engaged in combat operations.

This infighting within NATO is nothing new. It has been going on since, well, early days of the NATO organization. The European countries, it seems, have always had their own ways of viewing threats to their particular countries and interpreting those threats and , it would seem, they still have trouble working together as a team.

On this side of the pond, Canada is threatening to take her NATO troops home next year. Canada wants one thousand more NATO troops, non-Canadians, sent to Kandahar, which is located in the south of Afghanistan, to take some of the pressure off the Canadians who have lost 66 Canadian troops in some of the hottest combat in that theatre of operations.

Look, there is no way around it. The Brits, the Canucks, and the Dutch are the fighting forces holding the line in Afghanistan! Who can blame them if they tend to get their backs up when fellow members of the NATO organization appear reluctant to fairly share the burden?

It is becoming clearer, as time passes, that handing off Afghanistan to NATO to begin with may have made a bad mistake. The armies of the various countries making up the NATO military forces in Afghanistan have different approaches to fighting a war. They have different rules of engagement and they even have different approaches to the various and sundry ways they go about re-building that war torn country. There is simply no way to devise a single strategy when NATO partners insist on doing things “their way”. Even a “wet-behind-the-ears” basic training recruit knows you cannot fight and win a war that way.

There is growing frustration among American military leaders, and many American civilians looking on, over NATO’s less than effective efforts in Afghanistan. Many of us have begun to wonder if the US made a mistake, a huge mistake, in handing over the war effort in Afghanistan to NATO. Not only are we wondering THAT, but we are also questioning whether NATO is worth saving. Now that we know which countries can field an effective fighting force, why not dissolve NATO and create an alliance of countries with battlefield tested and battlefield proven militaries. It might be a smaller organization, but it would certainly be a more effective military alliance.

Afghanistan is going to get a lot uglier in the months ahead. When the US/NATO forces finally decide to move against the half a million acres of heroin poppies grown, this year, in that country, some three million more Afghan civilians will suddenly become “insurgents” and turn on the US/NATO fighting forces and take their places right alongside the Taliban.

So far, the US has been able to avoid that catastrophe by assigning the “war on drugs”, in Afghanistan, to the Afghanistan military forces. But it is obvious to everyone that is not working. So, sooner, or later, it will become necessary to napalm those fields of poppies and make an organized effort to destroy the nationwide organization behind the drug trade there. No one should be surprised at how high into the upper echelons of Afghanistan society the tentacles of that organization reach.

When the US finally does focus on Afghanistan, we will recognize that, suddenly, we have a “tufor” (“two-for”)… a war on terror… AND… a war on drugs, all wrapped up in an “un-pretty” package just waiting to be opened.

Living with the Bomb ... by Alan Caruba

Living with the Bomb
By Alan Caruba

*****************

On August 6, 1945, in order to end the war with the Empire of Japan, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, thus launching the atomic age. The Japanese warlords did not respond with a notice of surrender, so the U.S. dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Japan surrendered unconditionally.

That’s the way wars used to be fought. By that time, Germany had been so thoroughly destroyed with conventional bombs that its cities laid in ruins. Over a half century ago, wars were not waged with concerns for “collateral damage”, i.e., civilian deaths. It was understood that the civilian population had to be killed to the point where there was simply no capability to proceed.

For a short time the U.S. was the only nation with a nuclear capacity, but thanks to having infiltrated much of the government with a vast spy network, the Soviet Union was able to develop its own atomic bomb.

At that point American children were taught to hide under their school desks or gather in the hallways to avoid the affect of an atomic bomb blast. This was, of course, ridiculous because a nuclear bomb would flatten any school, along with much of the city in which it was located.

In 1965 Herman Kahn of the Rand Corporation published “On Escalation” in which he postulated the concept of MAD, mutually assured destruction, as the only rational solution to another nation’s nuclear weapons program. Red China joined the nuclear club and, in time, others such as Pakistan and India as well. Both of these nations developed their nuclear programs in secret. North Korea hasn’t even bothered to keep it a secret, nor has Iran.

Today, in the Middle East, Israel has long had nuclear weapons in response to the many conventional wars waged against it and in anticipation of a nation like Iran that is led by lunatics who repeatedly tell the world that they intend to “wipe Israel off the map.”

Although no nuclear weapon has been used in war since August 6, 1945, the likelihood that Iran will use one is too great to ignore. There are reports that Iran has tested launching presumably nuclear-tipped missiles from ships. This would be a means to attack the United States.

What is Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s response to the threat of a nuclear attack on America?

On October 2, 2007, Sen. Obama gave a speech at Chicago’s DePaul University in which he declared “A New Beginning.” He said, “America seeks a world in which there are no nuclear weapons.” While he said he did not intend to pursue unilateral disarmament, he proposed “a global ban on the production of fissile material for weapons.”

For all the treaties that have been signed since the dawn of the Atomic Age, the one thing we know for sure is that nations, if they want, will simply ignore them. Iran, for example is a signatory to the United Nations Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty at the same time its president brags of adding thousands of gas centrifuges for the creation of fissile materials.

Presumably, Sen. Obama, if elected President, will use his charm and diplomatic skills to talk Iran’s mad mullahs into ending their nuclear weapons program. He is on record as saying he would meet with Mamoud Amadinejad, but has since “refined” that statement saying such a meeting would have pre-conditions, et cetera.

“When I’m president,” Sen. Obama now says, “we’ll strengthen the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty so that nations that don’t comply will automatically face strong international sanctions.” Meanwhile, Germany has just signed a deal to purchase natural gas from Iran.

There is a simple reason that nations have nuclear weapons. Their neighbors and their perceived enemies have them. Treaties are nice, but useless. Sanctions are useless. The United Nations is useless.

My generation, born prior to or during the era of World War Two has learned to live with the bomb. Every President since Harry Truman has wanted to outlaw nuclear weapons and none has come close.

You cannot un-invent such lethal technology. You cannot assume some madman will not want to use it. The only prevention of such use is to destroy the capability to use it. Israel destroyed Saddam Hussein’s nuclear facilities on June 7, 1981. It has more recently destroyed such facilities in Syria. When the Israelis say “Never again”, they mean it.

Sen. Obama has surrounded himself with advisors with known anti-Israel views and he continues to blather away about some form of disarmament. He has laid out a program by which America’s military defense would be severely reduced, including weapon development.

History teaches that only strength can deter aggression. Waiting to be attacked is folly. Expecting nations led by men with evil intentions to respond rationally is folly.

Mutually Assured Destruction only works when leaders care enough to not sacrifice their people, but Iran’s leaders are eager for the return of the Twelfth Imam, a mythical Islamic figure who would impose Islam on the entire world.

Sixty-three years since the first and only atomic bombs were used to end a war that had cost millions of lives we are still living with the bomb. The immediate question is whether we will witness its use against Israel and the United States.

If elected, Sen. Obama’s policies will amount to unconditional surrender in the face of a very real threat.

The Lies of “Revised” History

The Lies of “Revised” History
by: J. D. Longstreet
*************************************

Why is no one correcting the lies that the US stole all that land in the Southwest from Mexico??? Could it be they want us to remain ignorant on the subject? Do you suppose?

OK, let’s set the record straight and look at some facts.

First, The Mexican War:
The Mexican War began with a Mexican attack on American troops along the southern border of Texas on Apr. 25, 1846. It ended when the US occupied Mexico City on Sept. 14, 1847. A peace treaty was signed at Guadalupe Hidalgo on February 2nd, 1848. Mexico officially recognized the US annexation of Texas and ceded California and New Mexico plus, all the present-day states of the Southwest, to the United States.

Nicholas P. Trist represented the United States and signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo for the US. A special commission, representing the collapsed government of Mexico, signed for the country of Mexico.

So, what was in the treaty? Well, under the terms of the treaty, Mexico ceded to the United States Upper California and New Mexico (including Arizona…) and… Mexico recognized U.S. claims over Texas, with the Rio Grande as its southern boundary.

So what about the money? Who got what? The United States paid Mexico $15,000,000, …and… assumed the claims of American citizens against Mexico ($3.25 Million), … and… recognized prior land grants in the Southwest, … and… offered citizenship to any Mexicans residing in the area. Then, a few years later, the US bought the land that is now Arizona and New Mexico from Mexico for another 6 million dollars.

OK, so why did we need that additional land?

After the end of the Mexican-American War, in 1848, there were still border disputes between the United States and Mexico. Land that now makes up lower Arizona and New Mexico just happened to be land that a proposed southern route for a transcontenental railroad would pass through. President Franklin Pierce was convinced by none other than Jefferson Davis (Later the First President of the Confederate States of America), then the US Secretary of War, to send James Gadsden (who, by the way, had personal interests in the rail route) to negotiate the Gadsden Purchase with Mexico. An agreement was arrived at under which the U.S. paid Mexico $10 million. But… it seems, there was a problem with the money. See, even though the agreement specified $10 million, the US Congress only agreed to pay $7 million. When the money finally arrived in Mexico City, $1 million, somehow, had been lost, and, as a result, $6 million was the amount Mexico actually got for the sale of that land. Hey, they set the price… we paid it!

Run the numbers and you will find that the US paid Mexico $24, 250,000.00 (24 million, two-hundred-and-fifty-thousand) US dollars for the land in the Southwest US which many claim, today, we (The US) stole!

You know, I get a bit tired, and even short-tempered, with folks who attempt to perpetuate an untruth by the act of sheer ommission. As a Southerner, I know how that can hurt. To say the US stole all that land in the Southwest is a flat-out lie. So, 24 and-a-quarter-million isn’t much money? Not by today’s standards, perhaps, but back in the mid 1800’s we’re talking about somewhere in the area of $600,000,000.00! Now that IS big bucks!

So, next time you hear someone prattling on about how the US stole all the southwestern United States from Mexico, set them straight. Tell them we bought it and we paid for it . If they refuse to believe you refer them to the Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty and the Gadsden’s Purchase a few years later. It’s all there. It’s a part of history. A part of history students in the American government schools apparently never hear about.

Of course, the claims that we stole the land from Mexico is all a part of the propaganda being employed to saddle Americans with more undeserved guilt. People who feel guilty will ofttimes respond in the way those proding them wish them to respond. That is what is hoped for with all the unmitigated garbage heaped on America today.

Actually, as I view the relationship between the US and Mexico today, I tend to agree with those who feel we ought to annex the entire country of Mexico and run it as an American territory. I mean, it’s not like we are not supporting the country of Mexico these days. The billions of US dollars, a year, pouring into Mexico, from their citizens who have burglerized the US, is staggering! Not to mention how much money Mexico saves by exporting their poverty to the United States!

The propaganda mills of the poilitical left continue to crank out distorted versions of history. Few ever question the veracity of the claims the US “stole” what is now the southwestern United States from Mexico.

Get ready for more of the same, especially if the liberal/socialists gain, as we expect they will, in the elections this November. The Amnesty Bill will be back and this time, it will be passed, because they don’t give a damn what the American people want! They see “V O T E R S “ and “C H E A P L A B O R”.

No matter which of the candidates for President wins, support for the Amnesty Bill is solid with either one of them. The Immigration Bill, the Amnesty Bill, is an abomination. I’ll be leaning on my Senators from North Carolina, over the months ahead, to vote against that bill every time it comes up. But, frankly, I expect it to pass in the next Congress.

Racism in the Race for the Oval Office ... by J.D. Longstreet

Racism in the Race for the Oval Office.

by: J. D. Longstreet

******************
A recent poll shows that Black Americans are supporting Obama 94 to 1 over McCain. During the Democratic primary Obama was running 90 to 10 margins over Clinton among black Americans. Now, you can put any spin you want on it and you can “prettify” it any way you choose, but the plain fact is… it is a display of raw racism. Black racism.

Pat Buchanan has a piece over at The Conservative Voice I think you’ll be interested in. It is titled: “Whitey need not apply”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.theconservativevoice.com/articles/article.html?id=33631

We continually hear calls for an “Honest Debate on Racism in America”. The problem with that is… black Americans are nowhere near ready for an honest debate about racism in this country.

I watched in the early days of the Obama campaign to see if I could identify the moment when those white voters, flocking to the Obama campaign, would begin to fall away. Well, it has happened. And it has happened earlier than I had expected.

A few days ago I wrote that Obama’s European Photo Op would hurt him among voters in America. There is now no doubt that rather than showing him as a “statesman” it showed him, more truthfully, as an American liberal/ socialist, which is exactly what we have been saying right from the start of his campaign. Somehow, and for whatever reason, the American voter had to see him in his element, the throngs of European socialists who chased after him, tongues dragging the ground, salivating for every pearl of wisdom dropping from his golden tonsils. It was a HUGE turn-off and, as we predicted, it hurt him back home. The image he projected back home was one of already having won the presidency and “strutting his stuff” among the peons of the world.

With the Mainstream Media/Press solidly in Obama’s corner, the American voter instinctively knows Obama is wrong for America. News reports tell us that the Media’s campaign donations go100 to 1 to Obama’s campaign and the democrats! As in all things, follow the money!

Take a look for yourself. There is an article over at The American Thinker entitled: “Big Media Puts It’s Money Where It’s Mouth Is”. This is an absolute “MUST READ”. You’ll find it at:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/07/big_media_puts_its_money_where.html

And… there is the pervasive feeling among American voters that Obama is simply too good to be true. Kathleen Parker has a piece titled: “Many Voters Wary of Sudden Superstar”. We recommend you read it. You’ll find it at:

http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/145/story/218547.html

Ms. Parker is “dead on” with her take on why Obama is not doing better in the polls here at home.

"The bloom", it would seem, "is off the rose". The rose colored glasses have faded and American voters are beginning to see Obama for what he really is…. and they don’t like it.

“The debate that will not happen” WOULD have been about racism in America. The reason it will not be held is because, to have an honest debate there would have to be discussions of black racism. So far, the political left in America, and a large portion of the political right in America, will not admit that Black people can be racists. We Americans today live in a hypocritical cocoon about racism. We know, instinctively, that black racism exists. We see it. And yet we deny it because it is the politic thing to do. We are living a lie, and we know it, and still we trudge on dragging this anvil through a minefield fused by overly sensitive “feelings”.

An “honest” debate about racism in America will never happen because… we are not willing to be honest. As a result we will never heal.

We white Southern Americans have learned to live with being called racists. We paid for our perceived sins, in spades, and yet more is required of us and we are unwilling to give anymore. Enough is enough. It has hardened us. We look at those calling for that “Honest Debate on Racism” and we smile at their naiveté. For, of all Americans, we know best that no debate will ever take place. Too much is at stake for those who claim themselves targets of racism.

Is there racism in America? Yes. Black and white racism? Yes. Will there continue to be racism in America? Yes. Will racism play a part in the Presidential Election this November? Yes. And there you have it. The truth.

Under Construction!!!

We're under construction! Watch this space for further developments!
